Inspired by the modern locale and their love of architecture, Rachel and Angel’s pink watercolor wedding captured by LH Photography is full of pretty! Watercolor elements adorn the lovely day-of stationery, lending a bit of softness to the modern, chic design- I know you’re going to love it! Rachel is here with us today to share more insight into her day…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

This person was definitely my mom. She helped me through the whole process. She took it upon herself to be my personal wedding coordinator, so the whole process was so much easier and enjoyable and we spent a lot of time figuring out all of the details together. She also created the invitations and helped make a lot of the paper flowers that were used for the aisle flowers and paper flower chandeliers.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I wanted vendors that I could trust and that I know would make the day really special for us. Most of the people involved in our wedding where vendors that I knew personally. Lysue with LH photography is a good friend and I have always loved her work. Noelia, designed and made our cake, she is Angel’s sister makes cakes for events that are so delicious, so I knew she would b the one to make the cake for our wedding. And Angel’s aunt has worked for Estee Lauder for years so she was the perfect pick for my make-up artist.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We always wanted our wedding to have a more modern feel and we loved the idea of of it being downtown so it had that party atmosphere. So the venue had a lot to do with how the look of our wedding came together. The Mezz has a modern feel with black and white decor and had the feel of a night club, which we loved. So taking that theme, I wanted to add accents of pinks and yellows, with succulents (one of my favorite plants) I also incorporated acrylic elements, in the cake stand and escort card tray, which ties in with the acrylic light fixtures found around the venue. I also wanted to incorporate paper flowers, so I thought that taking on the task of making hundreds of paper flowers was a good idea. :) My dad is a watercolor artist, so he was my inspiration for giving the flowers and the invitation suite a water color look.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing was the party atmosphere of our wedding. Being with all of our family and friends was so much fun and I felt like we were all laughing and dancing until it ended.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Don’t take on more than you can handle, and enjoy the process. I decided from the beginning that I wanted to take on a lot of DIY items for the wedding (Paper Flowers, Escort cards, table numbers) so planning ahead and making sure those items are finished prior to the week of so you can relax i think is very important. We also hired Lori at the Mezz to be our day of coordinator. She made the day run so smoothly and she took care of all of those little details so we didn’t have to worry about them the day of the wedding.

I love that Rachel and Angel’s watercolor inspiration came from the fact that Rachel’s dad is a watercolor artist! And how amazing are those paper flowers? I definitely think Rachel has some artistic talent in her genes, don’t you?

Rachel incorporated a bit of her own talents into her wedding decor by creating handmade details. Are any of you going to be creating handmade details of your own? What will you be making? I’d love to hear!

I can’t even begin to express how much I LOVED this wedding captured by Caroline & Evan Photography. Not only did I actually attend this whimsical Florida wedding, but I am proud to say I am also the bride’s loving sister. Lindsey and Jonny said their “I do’s” in the picturesque downtown St. Petersburg at the beautiful Fine Arts Museum. The venue however, was not the only jaw dropper. The loving couple looked fabulous, with Lindsey in her all lace gown, and Jonny looking sharp in his tux. The love shared between them was undeniable. From the lush- and quite stunning- centerpieces, to the creative handmade elements, the wedding of Lindsey and Jonny certainly stole my heart and I hope it steals yours too… enjoy!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

There were a number of people who helped me during the wedding planning process and on the wedding day, and I definitely could not have done it without heir help – you cannot do it on your own, no matter how organized you are – that is my advice on brides-to-be… Enlist help! Delegate with a capital D, and just realize that you cannot control everything and thats okay!

The biggest helpers were my mom and sister as well as Kelly Hancock of Kelly Hancock Events. If you are planning ANYTHING from a birthday party to a wedding, hire Kelly… she is incredible. She went above and beyond for me and still keeps in touch with me and my hubby by sending little cards every now and again. She’s such a gem.

Finally, I would be amiss if I didn’t mention my father and, now in-laws, who helped Jonny and I find the perfect Rabbi for our ceremony.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Interestingly, when I found out that Kelly Hancock has a background in counseling I became even more compelled to hire her for help in the wedding planning process. I thought, “wedding planning is stressful, stress is an emotion, who best to help manage a person through that stress than a wedding planner with a background in counseling?” Truly brilliant business model if you ask me! I think this background is what allows her to handle the most challenging situations so well.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

My inspiration came from a variety of sources. Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine (I fell in love with a wedding featured in the magazine and wanted to recreate it’s floral concept).  Flowers in general. JCrew’s line of bridesmaid dresses, I love the simple elegance. And finally The Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, our venue, provided inspiration in and of itself. For instance, having our ceremony in the garden led me to a sort of Fairy Tale Garden theme.

You cannot do it on your own, no matter how organized you are! Enlist help, delegate with a capital D, and just realize that you cannot control everything and that’s okay! Set a deadline for things and don’t second guess yourself once decisions are made! You’re ideas are amazing!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

So heres the thing I am from New York and my husband is from Canada we met in college at the University of South Carolina and now live in North Carolina. When I began to plan my wedding I was so overwhelmed because both my sisters and my mother where hours away as well as both my best friends. The only weddings I had been to in NC were either that of not so close friends or my cousins which were over 10 years ago. So I really didn’t know where to start. Who do I book for photography? Where can I get married? And DJ or band. Needless to say I was lost. After talking it over with my mother I decided I needed a planner in a big way. Once that was figured out I went online and googled away. Thats how I found Leigh Pearce and she was a life savor. After going through her site and meeting in person I knew she would be able to help me with my vision. I didn’t want your typical wedding I wanted it to have personality and color and I wanted it to be a party everyone remembered. So with Leigh to help me find everything and keep organized and the support of my family we were able to pull off The Best Day Ever!!

On my Wedding day while Leigh was in the background getting everything finalized which was perfect because it left me all day to get ready with my mother, sisters and two best friends I couldn’t have asked for anything else. We had a blast drinking mimosas and snacking while we listed to a specially made playlist and got our hair and makeup done. It was stress free and the perfect way to spend the day before everything really got started. Having that time with them really relaxed me and they truly are my favorite ladies so it was perfect.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

It was just a feeling I got when I meet Leigh. At first I admit I was worried she would be a little to southern for me but she instantly lit up when I showed her my ideas and was able to go out and truly find the things I wanted to make the day perfect. Really I just wanted to work with someone who understood what we wanted that day. I also wanted to feel like I was not just a bride on a long list of weddings.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

About 2 years before I got married I asked my mother to buy me a belt from Anthropologie- I told her I wanted to wear it when I got married. It was a thick ribbon with colored jewels all over it. So for 2 years it sat in my closet unworn and waiting. (Now just so you know I have been with my now husband for 12 years so I wasn’t just hopping that I would meet the right guy and he would pop the question. I had found him already!) I guess that belt is what really set off my idea of having a bright and sparkly wedding. Normally I am a jeans and t-shirt kinda girl but I love sparkles- just not on me. So I knew I wanted the details to be gold and glitter. When I found my location it gave my ideas a small spin, and I knew I wanted to incorporate it as well. That is where the glitter meet the farm tables and the champagne met the hayrides. I loved having the more rustic pieces mix in with the glitter, gold and color. I wanted a party that was a magical day with unexpected twists and turns for my guests, and I wanted it to be like no wedding they had ever experienced.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Honestly it wasn’t just one thing It was the entire day. We were married by my two cousins and it was a mix of nonsense, Jewish traditions and some Scottish ones as well. There was laughter, drinking, friends and family. Then getting to see inside the tent while everyone was in the barn for cocktail hour was amazing! I finally saw all my pinterest ideas and website searches come together, and so did my husband who said “it finally make sense”. Matthew and I just took the moment to take it all in. Then we danced- shhh don’t tell anyone that was our first official dance as a married couple. From there the night just got better- a friend sang our first dance song, and we drank, ate, danced and partied with the most important people in our lives.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. There is nothing worse then feeling lost or overwhelmed. Even if your help is not from a planner- you never know who can help you and how they can help. From budget questions to how many tinsel covered mixing straws do you think I will need (serious question!). Having help only makes the planning run smoother.

Also, stay true to what you want and who you are! Don’t let others’ ideas influence you because they did it or it is what was expected. This should be your Best Day Ever and if that means you have a bar at the reception, hayrides to cocktail hour, and an ice cream truck show up for dessert then so be it!!

Oh my goodness, Jessica’s advice (and all of her planning insight) makes my heart skip a beat because it’s so true. I hope some of you will take her word for it and listen to her advice! :)

I just LOVE how Jessica was inspired by a belt for her whole wedding design! That is totally something that I would do too- I’ve been known to design a photo shoot or two based on a single element, and I think it’s a GREAT way to design an event!

I’d love to know if you have something in particular that is inspiring your own wedding design! Share in the comments- I want to hear from you! :)

From Michelle of Michelle Wright Events:

I took my inspiration from the gorgeous colors of ELD’s Branding and the softness of Winter hues and tones. I also used lines and movement to accentuate the softness of the shoot through florals, the dress, light, and linens. It was beautiful to see how such different elements could be brought together in a harmonious way. When I looked at the different styles that ELD posts (Modern, Rustic, Classic, Elegant, Vintage, etc.) so many can make your heart move. Each played a small role in this shoot but subtly.

The beautiful backdrop of the Lofts (a modern space) provided a soft a unique palette of gray, white and green tones for every frame. (Each a color in the palette of ELD.) The cake designed by Maxie B’s seemed to capture a bit of each in such a soft and romantic way.  The creation of gorgeous flowers is such a classic element. While the blush color and clean design lend it to a more modern day style. The twist is the beautiful rustic twigs made of sugar. My inspiration here came from Maggie Austin’s work. I chose a gorgeous rustic display stand of wood for the cake covered in beautiful greenery. “The Dress” was inspired by our beautiful palette. I softened rose to blush and drew on classic, elegant lines that would stand the test of time. Our table scape combined so many gorgeous elements that were vintage elements (found at flea markets), dated silver (found and refinished), to items brides would register for in the most gorgeous stores. Each world came together in such a stunning way. The florals were inspired by the work of Saipua. The natural, soft, romantic presence that these florals bring can render me speechless.

That last shot by the always amazing Live View Studios is just breathtaking! I love how Michelle combined different styles to create a classic, timeless look. It’s gorgeous, and it’s a wonderful reflection of ELD, since we feature all different styles of weddings. I have to extend a HUGE thank you to all of the amazing vendors who contributed their talents to this stunning inspiration shoot. Be sure to check them out and give some love in the comments!
