What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My wedding planner, Amanda Peterson, from Ocean Breeze Weddings was extremely helpful in every part of our wedding. My Mom and Mother in Law were also provided great advice and help throughout the process. On the day of my wedding my bridesmaids helped keep me calm and relaxed.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

When deciding who to work with for the wedding, I knew I wanted to chose vendors who could capture my ideas and transform them into our dream beach wedding. It was also important for me to find vendors that were easy to work with and accommodating.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I definitely used Pinterest and Etsy to find a lot of inspiration for our wedding. I knew I wanted a romantic, shabby chic, seaside ceremony and I’ve always loved the color combinations of blush, mint, and gold. When my ideas in mind I used pinterest to find details to share with vendors to help create my design. Our event designer, Zhenia from Blu Event Design & Couture Florists, was simply amazing. She definitely created a beautiful design that exceeded my expectations.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about our wedding was getting to marry my best friend on the beach and spending the night celebrating with our favorite people in the world.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My advice for other brides is to invest in a wedding planner and vendors that you can trust to make your day everything you dreamed of and more. Having a wedding planner and amazing vendors made my day stress free and I was able to enjoy it with my new husband, friends and family.

That is some amazing advice if I do say so myself! I love that Allison found vendors she could trust to make her dream wedding day happen- the result was gorgeous, don’t you think?

Abundant love is not easy to find, yet Athar and Rafael found it. Between the ways in which they look at each other, family and friends who declared that no distance was too far to travel to participate in the couple’s timeless wedding day, and the heartfelt details the twoĀ made sure to include, today’s wedding feels as though it’s straight out of a lovely dream. Athar and RafaelĀ declared their union at Green Gables Estate on a picture perfect fall day in Southern California. The gardens provided a romantic place for their ceremony and an unreal backdrop for portraits before the couple, wedding party, and guests retreated into a stunning tent complete with draping, chandeliers, and vintage floral arrangements. Everything about theirĀ wedding day, especially the flowers and the bride’s style, will always make it shine brightly thanks to Mary Alice Hall’s stunning captures. You will adore today’s wedding – guaranteed!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom, my aunt, my sisters, my MOH and a few close friends were the most helpful throughout the planning process. They were my support system. Offering suggestions, input, and recommendations when needed. The day of our wedding day we were primarily with our wedding photographer who helpful keep us on track throughout the day. The Green Gables Wedding staff and our day of coordinator, Elham, were to thank for helping the day move and transition smoothly. I couldn’t have asked for better people to surround myself with that day.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Genuine people. We wanted to find people we wanted to surround ourselves with on our wedding day and that’s what helped dictate who we went with. The second most important was their portfolio of work. I wanted to work with vendors who shared a similar vision of what I imagined for our wedding. The moment I saw Mary Alice Hall’s work, I prayed to God that she was available on our wedding day.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Rafael and I are both really simple people so we wanted a simple wedding. Many of the design choices we made were based on things being ā€œtimelessā€.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Worshiping the God that brought me the most perfect husband. Thanking him for the gift of family, friends, an incredible husband, and thanking him for even the wedding! We’ve never felt more loved in our lives than we did on our wedding day. It’s amazing to think that God loves us more than the amount of love we felt on our wedding day. It was a glimpse of heaven.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Start planning early, keep a schedule, and give yourself deadlines of when you would like to get things done. On the day of the wedding, give your undivided attention to everything that’s happening around you and don’t worry about a thing because the best day of your life will fly by and you don’t want to miss it!

I just love the classic, timeless design of Athar and Rafael’s wedding, don’t you?

Everyone is on a budget these days and we all know that weddings can get very expensive very quickly. Well, I’m here to tell you that you can still achieve a gorgeous wedding day even if you’re planning a wedding on a budget (but really, who isn’tĀ on a budget?!). Ā Here are a few of the tips I typically share with my couples to help them stretch theirĀ dollarĀ without sacrificing too much:

9 Tips You Need To Know To Have An Awesome Wedding On A Budget via TheELD.com

1) Avoid guest list bloat

There are so many times I chat with brides after their wedding day, and they had wished they kept their day more intimate. Their lists typically grow and grow to the point where they invite people that they don’t know well but feel obligated.Ā To save as much as you can, try inviting fewer people and making the event more intimate. Start simply by lowering your list down by 20%, then another 20%. Then see if you’re happy with it.

2) Location – this is huge!

A big part of the budget usually gets taken upĀ when the venue is selected. Do you have a friend or family member that has an amazing backyard? Ask to borrow the space. If that isn’t an option, rent a vacation home orĀ private estate for something small and intimate (remember to check policies to make sure you are able to have a wedding on the property).

3) Food & Dessert

Have a cocktail reception,Ā but be cost-conscious by focusing on a beautiful display rather than tons and tons of food. You can have stylish butler-served hors d’oeuvres – this will give a high end feel. Presenting food in an aestheticallyĀ appealing way creates a unique impression without the added cost – for example, using items such as ceramic teaspoons, shot glasses, and skewers. And let’sĀ not forget the cake, asĀ an elaborate wedding cakeĀ can be very pricey. Instead, opt for a small cake for the cake cutting and offer miniature pies, petit fours or family desserts that have been passed down through generations.

4) Bar

Alcohol is also a big expense when it comes to a lot of weddings, and it’s also a big variable you can play around with to cut costs. Instead of opting for a full open bar, you can save money by offering just beer and wine. To upgrade from just beer and wine, offer one or two kinds of mixed drinks as signature cocktails. Depending on your venue and caterer,Ā ask if they’ll let you supply your own alcohol instead of using theirs, which can be a big money-saver (depending on what you are looking for). Look for a discount liquor store in your area, and stock up on the basics: red and white wine and a few types of beer at the very least. If you want to offer a full bar, pick up the standard liquors like vodka, gin, rum, and whiskey, plus a few mixers and soft drinks like sodas and juice. Don’t forget to think about ice, stir sticks, garnishes and glassware!Ā While it’s more cost-efficient to buy beer kegs instead of cases, any leftover beer will go to waste, whereas you can store excess bottles for months. Also, it’s a good idea to overestimate- you don’t want to run out of drinks halfway through the reception!

5) Live musicians

If you’d like live musical accompaniment for the ceremony (and perhaps for the reception), one place to look for lower-cost musicians is your local university’s music department, as well as local bars for live musicians that are trying to get their name out.Ā Contact them and ask if there is anyone who plays a particular instrument or does vocal work and see if they’re available to provide music for a wedding. It can help them develop their resumeĀ andĀ save you on this typically pricey part of your wedding.

6) FavorsĀ & decor

Pick an option for a favor that can do double dutyĀ as escort card holders. For example, vintage honey bottles, specialty sodas, potted plants, etc.Ā Go for chic and simple decor.Ā Vary the height, size or shape of centerpieces – this will create dimension which keeps the eye flowing through the room. Use candlelight to create a rich and romantic look.

7) Skip the groomsmen and bridesmaid gifts

Instead of buying gifts your groomsmen and bridesmaidsĀ may not even want or enjoy, consider writing them a special note to say ā€œthanksā€ instead. If your friends know that you’re trying to have a frugal wedding, they will understand.

8) Don’t have the budget for a honeymoon?

Utilize a honeymoon registry, and use it to help you go on an amazing honeymoonĀ instead of receiving the traditional household gifts. You can register for a trip anywhere in the world and give your guests a special code to login and make a contribution. The money gets deposited in a matter of daysĀ in a banking or savings account that you specify.Ā

9) Plan, plan, plan.

When you’re trying to have a wedding on a budget, it’s important to plan ahead. List everything you can think of and walk through these items step by step. The more time you give yourself, the more time you’ll have to find sales, discounts and research other good ideas. And of course hiring a wedding planner will help you a great deal also!

WhetherĀ you’re planning a wedding on a budget or you have a bit of wiggle room, these tips are sure to be helpful in all kindsĀ of ways!
