An Elegant Blush & Gold DC Wedding

Emily and John moved to Washington, D.C. during their engagement, and they wanted to welcome friends and family to their new city for their elegant D.C. wedding. However, they became slightly overwhelmed while trying to learn the area and research wedding professionals without previous recommendations to guide their ways. So they did what the ELD team recommends to every couple – hired a wedding planner!

Kim of Kim Newton Weddings became the pair’s most trusted source while planning because, like the best planners, she happily recommended her favorite and most experienced wedding pros. The best thing about planner recommendations is they already know you, your style, and your budget, so they can tailor their recommendations for you to remove all of the guesswork you would otherwise experience!

Emily and John’s vendor team pieced together one stunning wedding, y’all! Welcome bags greeted guests complete with a wedding timeline (my favorite detail!) designed by Caitlin Creative Works. The bridesmaids wore beautiful gowns to match Emily’s neutral, gold, and blush palette. The DBI Designs’ florals are effortlessly classic yet on trend (I love the mixed centerpieces!). And the setting – Army Navy Club – could not have been a more perfect fit for a timeless D.C. wedding.

In terms of the design, Emily didn’t want to look back on her wedding day and think “Why, Emily?”. Once you view the photos captured by Sam Stroud Photography, I think you will agree that thought will never cross her mind.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Our wedding coordinator, Kim Newton!! We could not have pulled it off without her. From our first meeting, we instantly knew she was our girl; My husband’s and my personalities meshed perfectly with hers and by the end of this crazy experience we consider Kim a friend. We trusted her implicitly, both personally and artistically, which allowed us to truly enjoy our seemingly-perfect wedding while she was probably juggling 20 near-disasters in the background with such grace and ease that we were blissfully ignorant:) During the planning process I felt clueless in a new city; Kim had tons of recommendations for great vendors and held my hand through the whole process- the girl knows what she’s doing!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Reputation and quality. Having just moved to the area, I couldn’t turn to recently married friends for suggestions. Luckily, my husband and I fully trusted our wedding coordinator and were able to rely on her vendor recommendations because we knew she would only recommend the best. And they delivered!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I didn’t want to look back at pictures years later and think, “WHY EMILY??!” so I definitely wanted the wedding to have a timeless, classic look but also make an impression. I love a neutral palette and LOVE gold so I wanted to incorporate those colors for an elegant, romantic feel but with some glam of course! We also wanted to incorporate a “DC vibe” so having the reception at the Army Navy Club perfectly captured the tradition and rich history of DC.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

The cigar bar! (Half kidding; I’m obsessed with our customized matchboxes.) My favorite thing about our wedding was definitely getting to throw a big party with all the people we care about the most. Our friends and family live all over the country so having them there to celebrate was SO much fun and meant so much to us.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Unless you’re incredibly organized and have a lot of free time on your hands to stress over tiny details (think: part time job), having a wedding planner/coordinator is completely worth it. Wanting to be mindful of a budget, I initially thought a wedding coordinator would be out of the question. Now I realize I could not have afforded NOT to have one! Having so many relationships in the industry, Kim made recommendations that ensured I was matched with the best vendors in my price range.

When you think of weather you hope not to experience on your wedding day, it usually centers around rain. However, wind can sometimes be an even bigger problem. But it isn’t when you have a calm, laid back attitude and a group of loving family, friends, and wedding professionals surrounding you willing to pitch in.

The aforementioned wind is exactly what Erin and Justin faced on their wedding day. When the suggestion was made to perhaps move their Greensboro, North Carolina tented wedding into a nearby ballroom, the groom’s father offered a definitive no and quickly acted to solve the problem. A fleet of trucks drove onto the groom’s family farm – the site of the soon-to-be stunning reception – and lined up to block the wind…and save the day.

The newly blocked from the wind tent was draped with marvelous ivory fabric, and the chandelier complete with greenery is definitely one of the stars of the show! Tables were filled with arrangements designed by Flowers for You that featured orchids used in rustic wood containers (I combo I haven’t seen before, and it’s brilliant!). A live band kept the dance floor filled before the bride and groom made their exit at the end of the night through a sea of bubbles (but not before thanking their wedding professional team in a group hug).

Y’all, this is what coming together for the sake of a beautiful union and celebration is all about, and we love Caroline Lima so much for sending these wonderful photos from E+J’s day our way!

Halie has always been inspired by farms, horses, and being outside. When she and her now husband, Zach, started their venue search, they fortuitously found The Wright Farm, perfect for their winter Georgia barn wedding. The barn severed as both a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony (I cannot express how much I love barn backdrops, y’all!) and a stunning setting for their reception. Halie fell in love with her lace sleeved gown from The White Magnolia because it reminded her of the vintage styles from the 1800s, and it fit her wedding venue and style perfectly! Plus, I cannot stop sneaking peeks at each and every rustic inspired floral arrangement by Amanda Clayton Designs, which accent the blush, red, and orange palette in such a unique way.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I read “The Knot Book of Wedding Lists” which was really helpful to me. It was easy to read and gave a lot of great advice. I also talked with my older friends who were already married about what they liked/disliked about their wedding. My vendors were also super helpful in giving advice and thought about what would work for my wedding.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I obviously wanted to work with people within my budget, but I also wanted to work with people who were professional and passionate about what they did.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I grew up on a small farm and so an outdoor wedding was something that I have always wanted. I am also into horses, Little House on the Prairie, simplicity and just the outdoors. But I didn’t want my wedding to be sloppy, I wanted an elegant outdoor wedding. My dress was picked because I thought it was elegant and it gave me an 1800s vibe, and I loved that. I loved the Wright Farm Barn because it is beautiful in a simple kind of way, and that was precisely what I was looking for in a venue!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about my wedding, other than the fact that I got to marry my best friend (and my GORGEOUS flowers), was that all of our favorite people were together in one place. It was such a magical and surreal experience to have family and friends from all walks of life together in one place to eat and celebrate! We had so so much fun dancing and laughing and just having a good time with the people we love most.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My best piece of advice is don’t be so concerned about the ‘wedding’, be more excited about the marriage. The wedding is one day of your life, it’s okay if not everything is perfect. Your marriage is forever, and focusing on spending the rest of your life with the one you love most is more important than if all the centerpieces matched.

Captured & Engaged – We Decided On Forever from Rad Red Creative

When we read Shainna and Evan’s story, we knew they were the ones! As Shainna would say, “ It isn’t everyday that a Jewish boy from Miami falls in love with a Guyanese girl from Long Island”, but on a typical Tuesday Shainna and Evan met, and they have been together ever since! So our team set on the goal to celebrate their love and engagement with an engagement party session titled “We Decided on Forever”.

“We Decided on Forever” is the second installment of the Captured and Engaged engagement giveaway series in which a team of well-respected wedding professionals in Central Florida capture the love story of a recently engaged couple by celebrating their engagement in a unique meaningful way.

Using dark moody tones, breathtaking florals, an eclectic arrangement of vintage furniture, a wine cellar setting with an incredible lighting design, our team created a dreamy backdrop for an intimate Engagement Party where Shainna and Evan celebrated with their friends.

A favorite highlight of the shoot was the Groomsmen cigar and whiskey lounge with so many gorgeous details expressing the eclectic and unique vibe of Shainna and Evan.
