Camp Inspired Engagement Session By Moss + Isaac via TheELD.com

Happy Tuesday everyone! I know some of you might be getting ready to do your engagement sessions, so I thought this week’s inspiration would be for engagement photos!  I remember trying SO hard to come up with a cool idea for my engagement session, but alas, we just ended up being in front of a bunch of different colored walls. Now, there are SO many great ideas for engagement sessions out there- from full-out styled sessions with props and special outfits, to a simple date night at home cooking dinner. But when my friends Moss + Isaac sent over this camp-inspired session, I was IN LOVE with it! Of course the photos are gorgeous, there’s no question about that. What I love the most about this is that this couple actually MET at summer camp, which is what inspired their engagement session! Their story goes like this…

“Jenn and Matt went to junior high together but didn’t actually meet until they were 16 in sleep away camp. They became friends, and even hung out outside of camp a few times. Jenn and Matt lost touch in college, but reconnected at a camp alumni event. They began to hang out more and more until they started dating. Matt proposed to Jenn at their apartment, after staying home from work to cook her a top notch 5 course meal of her favorites. At the end of the night, after they finished eating, he asked for her help cleaning the dishes, but he said “you’d need to take off your ring first. ” When she replied “what ring?”, he got down on one knee and proposed. Their Engagement Session was at Surprise Lake Camp where they originally met and became friends.”

How fun was this session?! And someone please tell me that I’m not the only one who has the “Salute Your Shorts” theme song in my head now. ;)

What a great idea- to do your engagement session where (or how) you and your fiance met! (I myself really did want to do my session where my husband and I met- at our high school.) Would doing something like this for your session work for you and your fiance? Where did YOU meet your soon-to-be-spouse?

You know what I love more than details? Knowing that I can tell all of you about the fabulous vendors that I have the pleasure of knowing! Rae and Wesley of Rae Leytham Photography have been “social media friends” of mine for a few years now, but a few months ago I had the extreme pleasure of finally being able to meet them in person… and they are two of the kindest, funniest people ever! Not to mention that they have a good 10-15 years of experience under their belts, so they are also FULL of wedding wisdom! Want to know more about Rae Leytham Photography? I think you’ll enjoy their interview… and their images too! :)

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

I’m going to borrow two of those descriptions and say modern/classic. Our goal is to take timeless photographs and put a clean, fun, modern twist on them.

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

From a photography standpoint, there is no better detail to us than a beautiful veil. We love the elegance of big, gorgeous veils and using them to create dramatic photographs. That just screams modern, elegant bride to us.

What is your favorite store or brand?

Pottery Barn all the way. Our dream is to one day hand the Pottery Barn catalog to an architect and say, “Build us a house like this”.

What advice do you have for a newly engaged bride?

Surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you from the planning stage all the way to your wedding day. If your future sister-in-law is a thorn in your side, consider giving her something to read at the ceremony instead of being a bridesmaid. Your happiness is the most important thing on your wedding day and that’s what you want to show in your photographs.

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

The pressure, the excitement, the relationships, and getting to capture all of that knowing that our work will be a family’s only memories of that day for many generations to come. It really is an honor when a client chooses us for such an important event. Then, we get to start with a clean slate and do it all again the next week.

I love the modern and classic aesthetic that their photography has- they definitely know their stuff! :) Rae and Wesley are based in the Florida Panhandle, but of course they can travel anywhere to capture your wedding- as many photographers say… have camera, will travel! :) Be sure to head on over to their ELV profile to see more of their work, and then their website for even more information about them!

I am so excited to share this wedding by Dana Grant Photography with all of you today! Not only is the couple incredibly beautiful (seriously, they are gorgeous), but everything about the wedding is just adorable. Drawing from the groom being an avid triathlete, the couple decided on an “in tandem” bicycle theme for their wedding. From the invitations to the seating chart, bicycle details could be found throughout all of the decor. Definitely a fun and personal wedding… and one that I would love to attend!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I was so blessed to have an abundance of help throughout my planning process. My bridesmaids and I spend countless hours making all the pinwheels, crafty items, and candy bar, my father constructed the seating chart as well as the pinwheel backdrops using bicycle wheels from Jordan’s papa, my sister designed and hand painted all of our signage, another sister made all of the bridesmaids jewelry, my brother shot our centerpiece photos, many close friends helped with the coordination of the actual day, and even Jordan got in on the planning too and was my main source of encouragement and support through every task.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important thing when deciding who to work with for my wedding was finding talented people who understood my vision for the day and who would aid in developing that vision. I don’t see myself as the most creative person in the world, but I can expand on an idea and make it my own. I feel that I was able to achieve that level of creativity by bouncing ideas off my vendors who in turn provided perspective and grew my vision.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

My inspiration came from a few of my husband’s and my favorite things….autumn time, bikes, our favorite colors, simplicity, a little country, and the idea of starting our “life in tandem.” Oh, and donuts…can’t forget donuts!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about my wedding was the ceremony. Seeing our guests, my family, the women standing by my side who’ve supported me through life, holding tight to my Daddy’s arm as he walked and gave me away to my new family, the un-announced flyover, taking communion for the first time with my mister, and worshiping with my sweet sister and brother as they played and sang the hymn, “Be Thou My Vision”. The pastor from my home church conducted the ceremony and did an amazing job at personalizing it to us. He spoke to our strengths as individuals and challenged us as we made the step into a life together to cherish those strengths in each other. We recited the traditional vows, then each took time to read aloud a love letter we had written to each other…words I will forever cherish and moments I will never forget.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My best piece of advice for other brides…Stressing is pretty much impossible not to do while planning a wedding, but try as much as you can to remind yourself what the day is about, and what it is your truly planning for…a life with your best friend. As soon as you start walking down that aisle, let it all go and just enjoy…soak in every word, every look, every touch, every face. I promise everything will still happen! Maybe not perfectly, but to be honest, the hiccups make the day that much more memorable.

Isn’t this wedding just amazing?! I love all of the yellow, and the little bicycles were the perfect touch. They really look just so happy together!

xoxo,
Joelle

I realized that I haven’t posted about centerpieces as a Detail To Love in a while, and so I thought I would put together a few more “unique” centerpieces to share with you all! Centerpieces are a necessary part of a wedding, and they are most definitely details too! Like I always say… whatever is pretty and/or functional is considered a detail in my book! :) Most of these I’m sharing here are ones that incorporate non-floral elements along with a few flowers, making for a different take on the usual centerpieces you see…

Of course there SO many other ways you can do unique centerpieces. If you need more ideas, I have TONS of them over on my Pinterest, as well as in the Detail Inspiration Gallery here on ELD!

So now tell me… what are you planning on doing for your centerpieces? Will you be doing something unique, using non-floral elements like some of the ones shown here? Or will you be going all floral? I’d love to know what you have planned! :)
