What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom and her amazing organizational skills really helped me during the whole process. My mom was ready immediately with a 3-inch binder that went with us to meet all of our vendors. This really helped us to be able to flip through and begin to see the big picture of how our wedding was coming together. My mom, my mother-in-law, dad, and sister also really helped keep me grounded through the whole wedding planning process. With them and my now hubby, I never forgot what the whole thing was all about- our love and a big party to celebrate!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important thing for me was finding vendors I felt comfortable around. All of my vendors made me feel very at ease during the entire process.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Decor and style wise, I have always been a pretty simple person. I wanted a wedding that brought a simple elegance. I have never really been an “over-the-top” person, so I wanted my wedding to stay on the simple side. I LOVE how everything turned out. It was perfect!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

This is so cheesy of me… I loved seeing all of our friends and family. Most of our families live out of town, and it was great to have everyone in one place for such an exciting event. And, I loved saying our vows. Brad and I had been long distance for nearly 4 years, and the wedding meant that we would finally be together!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

This is advice that my sister-in-law gave us the day before the wedding. At a few points during the ceremony, take your new husband to the side, and take a mental picture of what is happening. Everything flew by so quickly, and this gave us some opportunities to soak it all in! Also, after the wedding or honeymoon, make a list of everything you remember from that weekend/night. In 20 years from now, I want to be able to tell my kids about how I fell on the dance floor and what our friends said during the toasts. That is the kind of thing we will never remember if we don’t write it down!

I recently coordinated a Jewish wedding, my first one, and I just loved all of the traditions that they had. Everything about their wedding seems so meaningful, and you can see in the pictures how sweet it all is! I really think that her dream of a simple, elegant wedding is exactly what she got!

xoxo,
Joelle

Happy Thursday everyone! Today we’re going to have a little chat about choosing the date and time of your wedding. It’s something that you all have to do very early on in your planning process. You can’t really do anything without choosing your wedding date, and then shortly thereafter you have to choose the exact time that you want everything to occur. I received this cute little infographic by TurboTax all about dates, times, and how the cost of your wedding can be impacted by both of the factors, and so I thought I would start off with that…

Free Tax Filing, Efile Taxes, Income Tax Returns – TurboTax.com

And now for some of my thoughts and insight into all of this…

Locations: It’s true that the cost of weddings are dependent on the specific location of where you have your wedding. If you’re on a tight budget and you live in a city where the cost of weddings are higher, you may want to perhaps get married in your smaller hometown or find a venue outside of the city. Example: My friend lived in DC, but chose to get married in our small Florida hometown. It was either spend $30,000 on an wedding for 50 people in DC, or spend the same amount and have 150 people in our small hometown. :)

Time of Year: Ah yes, the time of year can play a HUGE factor in what your wedding ends up costing, but also in the availability of vendors and venues! The most popular/least popular wedding months are going to vary by your location though. I know here in Florida, the most popular months are March, April, October, and November- because the weather is the nicest in those months. So for your location, if you want to know what the most popular months are, think of when the weather is the best. :)

Time of Week: Weddings that occur on days other than Saturday are becoming a lot more common. It makes sense- who ever said that you absolutely had to get married on a Saturday anyways?! Of course you’ll want to think of your guests when choosing the day of the week to get married, but if you want your wedding to be on a Wednesday, I say why not?! Besides, you could possibly get a lesser rate for your venue rental! But I’m not going to promise that you can get any “discounts” from other vendors, because service is service and product is product no matter what the day of the week is. :)

Time of Day: It’s true- the time of day can have a huge impact on what you end up spending. Mostly because all of the other times of day that are available- morning, afternoon, later evening- result in less food and alcohol. Well, except for later at night- that would most likely result in more alcohol, if you have a partying crowd. :)

Brides, what are your plans? Have you chosen your wedding date and time yet? How did you come to your decision?

{Wedding Planning Advice} Book Your Photographer! via TheELD.com

“Book your photographer right after your venue! We book really quick and we often limit the number of weddings we take in a year because of the amount of hours spent in pre-wedding work and post-processing. I’m always sad to turn brides away when I know how excited they were to use me for their photographer.”

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Ashton Events, (Laura), did a wonderful job from the inspiration of it all to the “day of”. Her organizational skills made things seem easy, and her creativity carried the planning along.  (I do have to give credit to my crafty mother who spent way too much time with burlap! :))

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I wanted to ensure that our planner would be able to help us find the best deals around town, while still capturing and enhancing the unique style of our wedding. Ashton Events did just that!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

While starting the planning process I knew I wanted our wedding to be whimsical and fun with a touch of old class. Being very visual, I really took note and explored other wedding photos online to borrow/recreate ideas. Soon colors were decided as was our style…a vintage carnival. (I was a bit nervous of explaining my vision of this theme to friends and especially vendors. Elephants and clowns was not where my mind was leading, yet a tasteful carnival where kissing-booths, corn-hole, and peanuts were known.) With the help of Ashton Events, (Laura),  and my crafty mother, the ideas and vision turned into perfect details.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

A favorite, (there are just too many), about our wedding would have to be the fun food. The Terrace Hotel did an amazing job helping create a menu that mimicked that of a true carnival. Stations were set-up where guests could walk around as if at a carnival and choose amongst the barbecue sliders or Sirloin sundaes, fried macaroni and cheese balls, coleslaw cups, mini corn on the cobs, etc. The stations also allowed for a fun atmosphere as there was lots of movement which made grooving on the dance floor a bit more comfortable later on. ;)

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My advice to other brides would be to hire a videographer! :) This was a detail I almost missed out on as I thought pictures would be “plenty”. Thank goodness, Ashton Events encouraged us to hire Indie Atlantic, and at the last minute we agreed. Our video has been SUCH a treasure. So yes, don’t pass up videography which allows you a forever movie of your day and it’s details!

And now speaking of hiring a videographer, you absolutely HAVE to see this video… Indie Atlantic Films captured the love and emotion (and the details too!) so beautifully!

amy + joel from Indie Atlantic Films on Vimeo.

Everything is so very amazing about this wedding, isn’t it?! There’s something so fun about a wedding with unique and personal details! I love that they had the cute little “nuts about each other” jars with peanuts on all of the tables- what a fun way to incorporate the carnival theme into the centerpieces.

How about you- do you have any favorite details from this carnival-themed wedding? Will your own wedding be styled around a particular theme too?
