I love when brides and grooms are able to combine traditional elements with a modern flair. Cassie and Don did just that with their ceremony at The First Presbyterian Church of Orlando and their reception at The Mezz- which by the looks of it, was all glitz and glam, cool chandeliers, and even a few glow sticks thrown in. Good thing Shipra Panosian Photography was on hand to capture it all!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

We did most of the planning ourself. Between my husband, mom and sister in law, we were constantly bouncing ideas off of each other until we found what we liked. When it came to the day of, we were fortunate enough to have Sweet Pea Events (based out of Orlando) help us. They thought of details we never took into consideration and made the day of completely stress free.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We really wanted to have a beautiful wedding without spending a fortune. We found companies that were great to work with. I cannot say that any of our vendors disappointed. It was all perfect.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We wanted to keep our wedding young and fun. Once we found The Mezz we were able to use the fun atmosphere to help plan our centerpieces. They have a great geometric pattern to their carpet. From that we decided our centerpieces and linens.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

It’s hard to narrow down just one thing. Our ceremony was probably our favorite thing. Kent from The First Presbyterian Church of Orlando made our ceremony very personal. He took our story and told it our friends and family.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Enjoy your day. Do not stress over the little things because it will all work itself out the day of.

Now tell me- isn’t that a wedding you’d want to attend? And seriously, a groom’s cake in the shape of a Diet Coke can?! Ah-mazing.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I pretty much planned my entire wedding by myself but of course it could not have been done without my moms help as well :)

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I wanted my wedding to be beautiful and enjoyable for my guests. I picked vendors that I knew would be professional and fun and give me the most bang for my buck. The Ritz-Carlton was not my first choice for price reasons but when I thought about the convenience and professionalism I would probably experience with them, my choice was a no-brainer. I met with all of my vendors before choosing them so that I could get a feel for the way they run their business and if they would make me and my groom feel great about choosing them to be a part of our wedding day.Ā

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I am an artist and I knew I wanted to do a lot of DIY projects. I loved the idea of a shabby chic/garden themed wedding so I got married in a botanical garden in town and did a lot of projects myself. I also did a lot of research online and from magazines and ordered a lot of handmade goods from Etsy.com. I wanted to wow our guests with unique and creative ideas that they have rarely seen at a common wedding.Ā

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about our wedding was our exit from the reception. Our guests threw colorful pompom craft balls on us when we were leaving to get into my PaPa’s 1934 Antique Ford car. We sat in the rumble seat and drove away with our “just married” sign on the back and cand dragging the ground. We drove around town with our bridal party following us in my PaPa’s other antique truck that my beother deove (they all sat on hay bales). That was the most amazing part of our wedding day (among many others).Ā

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

The best advice I can give other brides would be to not sweat the small stuff! You may think that your bridesmaids nail polish color will ruin your wedding day and it will not, I assure you. Something will always go wrong that day, whether it is big or small (I hope small) but you just have to roll with the punches and have a great attitude because after all, you are a beautiful bride and this is supposed to be the most amazing day of your life. It will be if you let it :)

Great advice Kristin! (Now that I think about it, I don’t think ever even thought about my bridesmaids’ nail polish color! Whoops!) It’s so true- you just have to “roll with the punches”. Thank you for sharing with us, Kristin, and a big thank you to Jason Mize Photography for capturing everything so gorgeously!

I’m loving all of the awesome details- the ceremony aisle decor, the unique centerpieces, the pompom sendoff… everything! Ā What’s your favorite part of this eclectic garden wedding? Are any of you having a garden-style wedding?

When it comes to weddings, so many couples are color averse. In other words, they flock to the muted palette of a traditional wedding. And, while nothing is wrong with creams, golds and blushes, sometimes it’s perfectly okay to take a risk with color.

When your house is filled with bright yellows or bold reds, shouldn’t your wedding be colorful, too?! So, how do you introduce color without going overboard?

{Tuesday Tips} Live Colorfully? Plan A Colorful Wedding! via TheELD.com

A Brit and a Blonde

Flowers

This is the easiest way. Flowers are natural colorful, so take advantage of bold blooms like pink peonies, red dahlias and purple orchids. They’ll pop on the table or in your bouquet, allowing you to use a more neutral palette in other areas (like linens or clothing / attire).

Linens

Want to stick to classic white flowers? Then, go with colorful linens, which are a fun way to make a colorful statement. And, it’s a great way to bring in texture.

Stationery

Most people receive white envelopes and simple white stacks of paper in the mail everyday. Make your invitations stand out with a colorful envelope and brightly colored invitation. It’ll entice your guests to excitedly open their mail.

Wedding Party

Encourage your wedding party to adopt your love of color. From a rainbow of dresses to the funkiest of groomsmen socks – it’s an opportunity to let your color palette shine.

But the creativity doesn’t have to stop there. Paint your jars and vases a fun color, hire a lighting company to add color to your reception, choose a colorful cake instead of white, or wear a brightly hued pair of shoes under your dress.

What other fun ways did you (or have you) incorporated color into your big day?

Brit
