Who doesn’t love a wedding full of handmade details? This bride obviously had fun with all the DIY projects, really infusing her and her fiance’s style into their wedding! Not to mention that the photography from Dixie Pixel is absolutely gorgeous!

From the bride…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I had a wonderful planner! Heather Holder with Simplicity Event Planning made my wedding everything I could have dreamed of! My mother was also a HUGE help with the planning process and spent countless hours/sleepless nights helping make all of the handmade goodies we used throughout the ceremony and reception.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

When choosing vendors for our wedding it was most important for Ryan and I to reflect our personalities in every little detail.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We bought a historic home a couple of months before we started the planning process. I would have to say when it came to picking a venue that was our biggest inspiration. The House on the Hill venue had many characteristics that were familiar to our home! When it came down to the details I was very inspired by Pinterest. I wanted my guest to feel the our love for each other and appreciation for them sharing our special day with the handmade decor and favors.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing was once the reception started we were able to let our hair down after 6 months of planning. It felt so good to be able to celebrate with our friends and family but know everything was in good hands with my wonderful coordinator!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I would have to say don’t stress and get upset when something doesn’t go as planned. It inevitable and will happen but at the end of the day or night when the wedding is over it will much less important than it seemed before the big day! And as my planner reminded me and my husband multiple times when we were stressing “This is your day, don’t let ANYONE ruin it for you!”

I may not know this couple, but it really does seem like they incorporated themselves into every element of their wedding. I love all of their rustic touches especially, and I think it’s so sweet that they used their own home as inspiration!

xoxo, Joelle

Do you ever see a wedding on a blog and think, “Wow, I wish I could have gone to that wedding – it looks like so much fun!” That was my reaction when I first saw these photos from Sara Kauss Photography. The couple, Maggie and Jim, met on St. Patrick’s Day in 2010, so it was only fitting that they got hitched on St. Patrick’s Day a couple of years later! They’re also both from South Florida, so their Deerfield Beach wedding had a super-cool lounge vibe – and of course they took photos on the beach!

From the bride:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

From very early on in our planning we used TheKnot.com. The website is a great resource due to the vast number of tools and integrated features. There were two individuals who really made our reception an event to remember. Alexis Castro at the Deerfield Beach Hilton was frequently in touch with us leading up to the event weekend and was always amenable to our requests. Chad Everett from Galaxy Productions transformed the hotel’s event space into something between an elegant banquet and an exclusive night club. We selected the colors, the wedding music and showed Chad several photos that captured the feel and ambiance that we had in mind. He then created an event that seamlessly combined our ideas with the space.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Finding someone whose artistic style and vision is similar to our own. We had observed our photographer, Sara Kauss, at a friend’s wedding. Her professionalism during that event and the outstanding quality of her photography were exactly what we were looking for. When it came time to select a photographer for our wedding, we knew exactly who we wanted. Just as important was Sara’s genuine interest and willingness to work with us to achieve our vision.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We looked through many wedding magazines, attended expos and were especially observant at other weddings in the year leading up to our special day. We had a wedding folder in which we kept notes, saved articles and photos, and recorded conversations. The contents of this folder eventually formed the basis for all wedding details and was essential to shaping the final event.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

The reception was an incredible party. Galaxy Productions transformed the Hilton’s banquet hall into a work of art. It was hard to imagine the room’s transformation prior to the event, and even once we walked into the room, it was still hard to believe that it was the same place. The table layout, décor, the cocktail bar and room dynamic were far from traditional, but still worked really well. The DJ played an incredible mix of music for all ages and was very effective in getting all of the guests into the celebration. Galaxy’s production team projected photos from our engagement sessions and other shots from our relationship throughout the reception. Near the end of the evening, our photographer, Sara Kauss provided a few photos from earlier in the day to add to the slideshow. Both we and our guests were very impressed.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

It is very important to rely heavily on the professionals who have a lot of wedding experience, but it is difficult to trust someone to know what you want. Find vendors who express a genuine interest in your event, take the time to understand what you’re looking for and offers honest, realistic feedback. We had color, flower, décor (and many other) details that we are glad we let our vendors influence our decisions on. Willingness to compromise on some of these details of your fairytale wedding can definitely work out in your favor.

From the a wedding professional’s perspective, I appreciate Maggie’s advice to brides; vendors often have good ideas about how to elevate, implement, and build on your ideas. My favorite weddings have been a decor collaboration between myself and my clients, and I know that they were greater than our individual ideas. What do you think? Would you be willing to compromise about some of the details to make your wedding day vision even better?

xoxo, Elisa

This week’s Vendor of the Week is one of my absolute favorite types of vendors… a floral designer! I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tampa Bay floral designer FH Weddings & Events several times, and they are just absolutely amazing. I’m honored to be able to have them here on ELD! Seriously- anything that you can dream up, they can make happen… and make it happen gorgeously too!

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

As a designer, I feel that I can be considered Modern, Vintage, Classic and Eclectic. I have poured myself into each style of wedding and have always found myself creating new and original ideas for each style. However, I do love Vintage styles. I have always loved being able to step back in time and designing with décor and flowers that bring a piece of the past into today.

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

We recently did a wedding and I had fun creating a focal point for the ceremony and above guest tables. For the ceremony we created a two post Chuppah, had sheer fabric and crystals curtain curtained back on each side. The focal point was the large silver frame hanging in the middle of the chuppah. We put the frame upside down and designed flowers on opposite corners with large crystals hanging down. The same frame was also used over guest tables, floating.

What is your favorite store or brand?

I love “The Buckle”. I love a pair of comfy jeans and a T-shirt.

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

My favorite part is seeing the whole day come together. All the vendors working together to make the bride and grooms vision a reality, then seeing the excitement of their faces as they see everything for the first time.

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

I think one of my best qualities is my ability to listen. By listening to a couple’s vision I can create the flowers, designs and the décor. These concepts define their personalities and for the first time it is the personality of both of them as one.

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

By listening to the bride and grooms vision of what they want for their wedding day will ensure a perfect wedding day. Another step is absolute organization. Our team begins planning and designing the day a bride signs with us. We create inspiration presentations, since most brides are more “visual”, and I personally meet with the bride three times. We always do a venue walk thru to make sure everything is covered and this also helps our brides feel comfortable with us.

I love the idea of a bride and groom session, don’t you? Get all “gussied” up one more time to take some fun and gorgeous photos after your wedding, no time restrictions or bridal party to deal with… yeah, sounds like a great idea to me! :)

Are any of you thinking about doing a bride and groom session after – or maybe even before- your wedding?
