From the bride…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

James and I planned the wedding together – I couldn’t have pulled it off without him! He found many of the vendors (including the venue, photographer, and caterer), designed invitations, and even sculpted our cake toppers!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important thing for us when deciding with whom to work for our wedding was the rapport we had with the vendors. We met with people ahead of time before choosing, either through bridal fairs or appointments, and were able to work with vendors with whom we felt we connected and were able to share and execute our vision.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Our inspiration for our wedding theme was from the venue and our favorite things. We were married in San Diego, and wanted it to feel like it, so we chose a unique venue overlooking the ocean. From there, we decided to keep it simple with handmade details. Details were mostly inspired by hours of browsing Pinterest and wedding blogs.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Our favorite thing about the wedding was all the people who were able to celebrate with us, either in person or from afar. It was really special to have all of our closest friends and family together. The whole celebration felt really personal since we had worked on so many handmade touches.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Our best advice to other couples planning their wedding is to enjoy the process. If it gets to be too stressful, simplify – no one else will notice if you don’t have that extra detail. Trusting your vendors is also hugely helpful towards keeping the wedding planning manageable. Lastly, after all the hard work in the planning process, make sure that you have someone to help you execute on the day-of, whether it be a friend or day-of coordinator, so that the wedding goes off as you envisioned and you can enjoy the day!

That’s a really important thing to remember when planning your wedding… if something gets to be too much, do what Heather suggested- simplify. I think sometimes you can tend to get a little too wrapped up in how things “should” be… I know I did!

Brides, what do you think of the combination of rustic and vintage styles? Will you be doing something similar, or perhaps combining other styles? I love it- and I would love to hear what you’re planning on doing!

And I can’t not include this adorable behind-the-scenes video from Chris D. Scott Cinematography

Hats Off to the Holidays Styled Shoot from Chris Scott on Vimeo.

A little bit about this modern winter inspiration…

“Hats Off Holiday” is an inspiration shoot for a modern and luxe holiday, winter-wedding. The colors are a lush wintry oxblood and eggplant, with crystals and metallics worked in everywhere. The storyline is a southern bride marrying a New Englander groom, and we tried to incorporate both Southern and Northern inspiration into the Pensacola wedding. For example, there are two specialty cocktails: a Manhattan (from his side of the family) and a Hot Buttered Rum (from hers); the beautiful pastries are named fun things like “Big Apple Pie” and “I’m Bananas for You Torte”, and the venue is a historic building in downtown Pensacola with exposed brick and beams, giving it an urban feel. The favors are a good representation of the event: they are handmade peppermint bark (grandma’s recipe), packaged in glass containers, tied up with ribbon, and bearing crystal tags. The design incorporates dramatic centerpieces of painted manzanita branches dripping with crystals, surrounded by rich and textured flowers arranged to give an ombre effect. This effect is mirrored in the custom flower girl’s gown. The bride wears diamond and pearl jewelry loaned by a local jeweler, and the menu reflects the combination of southern and northern personalities (the passed appetizers are “Gulf Coast Shrimp Cocktail” and “New England Clam Chowder” shots.)

So gorgeous! Will any of you be using deep colors like these for your own wedding? If so, what season will your wedding be in?

Happy Tuesday everyone! We’re starting today with an excellent post from the fabulous Kaysha Weiner, written from her perspective as a very recent bride AND a photographer. It’s full of some awesome tips and advice for planning your wedding, so be sure to check it out…

How to Plan a Picture Perfect Wedding

By Kaysha Weiner Photographer

Pro Insight: How To Plan A Picture Perfect Wedding via TheELD.com

Having photographed nearly a hundred weddings, I’ve seen it all: from luxurious extravaganzas, to intimate backyard receptions. In my experience (and also recently having planned my own wedding), it’s the little things that can really make all the difference- not only in your photos, but throughout your whole day. With these tips in mind you’ll be able to take your celebration to the next level and truly plan a picture perfect day.

 ————————————————————-

Build your dream team

When it comes to choosing your vendors, be sure your picking companies whose work you not only love, but also people you trust. Not matter how organized you are; you cannot do everything yourself, and you’ll need to rely on the talented people you’ve chosen. Just remember your vendors are professionals, who have probably worked on more wedding then you’ll ever attend. Listen to their advice, and have faith that they are working hard to make your day perfect!

TIP: Hire a coordinator; having at least day of coordination can have a huge impact on your day. These savy people are responsible for all the details, and will insure everything is taken care of, so you can sit back and enjoy!

Find your wedding style

Thanks to the blog world and Pinterest, there is no lack of pretty photos to pull inspiration from. At first all these choices may be a bit overwhelming. What can help is to first pick your overall wedding theme, or style. This can be a color palette, a location, or even a time of year. The key is to stick to your choices throughout the entire planning process. So if you want a rustic barnyard wedding, a giant ball gown might not be the best choice for a cohesive style. Just remember to embrace your choices and don’t be afraid to try something different!

TIP: Using the same colors, fonts, and textures throughout all your details can make a world of difference, regardless of your design.

Timing is everything

The best thing you can do for your wedding is give yourself time, and lot’s of it! Meaning add extra time for getting ready, photos, and even your ceremony. This is especially important when it comes to photography, video, and any design elements. These creative’s need time to do their jobs, and the more time you give them the better your final product will be.

TIP: Don’t be afraid to reach out with your timeline months before the wedding day for their input. Sometimes a few small changes can make a world of difference.

Accept what you cannot change

When you spend close to a year planning one day it’s easy to lose perspective when things don’t go as planned. Here is the truth, something will inevitably go wrong. It could be the smallest detail, or a guest could spill red wine down the front of your gown. Regardless, don’t let it ruin your big day! No one will notice if the flowers aren’t the right color, or your cake is the wrong flavor.

TIP: Understand that your wedding dress will get dirty, and that’s okay! You’ll only wear it once, and dry cleaners can work magic.

Getting married is supposed to be fun!

The most important thing you can do is let go, relax and have some fun. This will always translate into beautiful photos, and lasting memories of your wedding day.

TIP: Wear comfortable shoes, or at least bring a pair to change into! Trust me, you and your feet will thank me later.
