I’m always game for a celebration, which is why I think a New Year’s Eve wedding is an awesome idea! Combining two celebrations into one, plus an excuse to include glitz, glam, and confetti into a wedding design? Yes please! So when Meagan of Weddings Tied With Lace shared this glitzy bronze New Year’s Eve wedding inspiration captured by Amanda Lachapelle with me, I of course fell head over heels in love. Inspired by the idea of a bold and glitzy soiree to ring in the new year, this elegant fête on a rooftop lounge overlooking the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is the perfect example of how amazing a New Year’s Eve wedding can be!

From Meagan:

We were inspired by the idea of a bold and glitzy soiree to ring in the new year and created an elegant fête on a rooftop lounge overlooking the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

For our team of vendors, the goal was to showcase the luxury of a sophisticated New Years party, one that emphasized the exclusive nature of a rooftop lounge and incorporated a classic aesthetic. A focus was strongly placed on our neutral colour palette of bold blacks, whites, coppery metallic tones, and just a hint of playful stripes. The hanging candles and paper lanterns above the table added a hint of whimsy, and looser florals brought in a natural contrast to the glitz. Nothing says New Years Eve quite like party favours, and handmade confetti and sparkler packets were displayed next to our bubbly signature cocktails in gold dotted champagne flutes.

The feeling of an event is just as important as the way it looks, and it was important to us to have the tablescape captured in daylight, at dusk, and into the evening to showcase the versatility of the look we created and evoke an energetic, sexy atmosphere that is a must for every stylish New Years party.

I love the bronze elements- I haven’t seen too much of that in wedding designs lately, but I’d love to see more!

So tell me- what do you think about a New Year’s Eve wedding? Would you consider it… or even attend a New Year’s Eve wedding?

It’s Bridal Show season y’all! I’ve been on both sides of a bridal show before, and I’ll be the first to admit that it’s kind of overwhelming- but exciting too! I of course have more experience being on the vendor side of bridal shows, and so I thought I’d share some of my insight about what you should know and/or do before attending bridal shows.

Attending Bridal Shows: What You Need To Know via TheELD.com
I’ve noticed that there are a few different types of brides at bridal shows. There is the bride who is in shock, overwhelmed, and doesn’t know where to start- likely because she’s very newly engaged. And then there is the bride who is ultra prepared, with huge binders full of ideas, magazine clippings, and pictures. And then the most common bride, who is in the middle of the extremes, calm, enjoying herself, and there to find ideas and possible vendors for their wedding.

In making these observations about the different types of brides at bridal show, I also realized that there are many things brides should consider before attending a bridal show to make their time worth while. Because no one wants to waste a precious day out of your already short weekend, right?!

Have an idea of what you NEED.

Do you need all your vendors, from a venue to a cake baker? Have at it and peruse the show to your liking. But if you only need just one or two vendors, focus on those types of vendors and get the most information you can. Feel free to of course go to other vendors as well, because you never know what you’ll find!

Have an idea of what you WANT.

If you’ve been toying with the idea of a planner, it doesn’t hurt to talk to one at a bridal show. Talking to planner could make you aware of all of the things that you haven’t yet thought of, including things that you would have to worry about on the day of your wedding. Use the bridal show as the chance to do that! Or perhaps you really like ceiling draping, but you’re not sure what it would cost. Talk to an event decor company… because you never know, you might just get a complimentary consultation out of it! It never hurts to ask- especially at a bridal show, where professionals are there to answer your questions. It’s your wedding, and you want it to be the best it can be- get all of the information that you need to make decisions wisely.

Have an idea of your VISION.

Almost every bride has some sort of vision of what she wants her wedding to be like. It could be the colors, the time of year, the venue, or a specific theme. If you don’t think you have a vision of what you want, just think hard about the previously mentioned things (colors, time of year, venue, specific theme), and it will come to you. Sometimes just the colors or time of year will end up being a “theme”, such as Rustic Autumn or Romantic Garden. You can even mention some of those things to different vendors and I’m sure they will have ideas to provide you with.

It’s quite alright if you’ve just recently gotten engaged and go to your first bridal show with no ideas or plans whatsoever. It could be helpful to you and give you a plethora of ideas. However, be aware that it may be overwhelming. Wedding talk (venues, dates, dresses….the list goes on and on) can certainly be intimidating- especially if you don’t have anything decided yet.

Nonetheless, I highly recommend going to bridal shows. Try to go to more than one, since different vendors attend different shows. Definitely do your research, collect business cards, meet the vendors, and get a feel for the vendors’ personalities too. Also, don’t forget that there are usually GIVEAWAYS of all sorts at bridal shows! And the most important thing is to have fun!

So tell me- are any of you planning on attending a bridal show anytime soon? Do you have any specific needs or goals, or are you just going for the experience?

From Leah of Color Pop Events:

This shoot is the perfect illustration of what happens when you gather a group of creatives who already have natural tendencies for a more edgy and quirky style and plop them in the middle of an eclectically-decorated fun house like Norwood in New York City and have them throw a fake wedding.  Profane artwork, a black wedding dress, gold mice, and quite possibly the most aesthetically-pleasing couple you’ve ever seen combined to create a shoot that we vendors couldn’t be more proud of. And, as a fun twist, the couple actually tied the knot for real a few weeks after the shoot, so they pretty much got the best wedding rehearsal ever.

I love the concept of doing an outfit change for the whole bridal party between the ceremony and reception, don’t you?! It’s especially great if you’re wanting the best of both worlds when it comes to your wedding- then you don’t have to choose! And can we please talk about that amazing black wedding dress by Allison Parris New York?! I think I might want to live in it!

Are any of you wanting a wedding with an edgy, hipster vibe like this inspiration? What do you think?

An aqua and gray wedding will never cease to be a favorite of mine. This rustic eclectic wedding planned by DPNAK Weddings and photographed by Michael Pangilinan Photography is filled with rustic elements, eclectic style, and some fabulous details! Handcrafted coasters, wooden-slit place-card holders, and intricately woven table numbers are just a few of the details that were handmade with love. And not only are there amazing details, but this whole day is absolutely overflowing with love! The bride, Susan, is here to share more as you view it all for yourself…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Danielle Pasternak of DPNAK Weddings. Goodness. We couldn’t have pulled off the seamlessness of it all without her uber-awesome, direct, and inspirational strategic tinkering. Throughout the planning process she would send monthly “to-dos” that really helped keep us on track for what needed to be done at what time. She was always available for questions, motivation, a laugh, a sanity-check, and suggestions. She was the puppet master the “day of” – knowing the ins and outs of absolutely everyone involved in making the day fabulous.

(About the above image, from the photographer: “One of my favorite moments of the day was before all the feet hit the dance floor, before the dinner was served, and before any guests were even present. Susan and Sam were two incredibly talented souls. When deciding how they would do their First Look, they had some ideas but Susan kept a little secret from Sam. She had been practicing and perfecting a song for him on her acoustic guitar. We decided, without Sam knowing, that we’d place Susan behind the closed barn doors, place Sam on the other side of the doors, telling him to wait there. As we opened the doors, Susan began singing and serenading her husband-to-be as he sat on the other side. It was one of the most touching moments I’ve ever had the chance to document. As they finally faced one another at the end of the song, their love just poured out.”)

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Because our venue was hours from home, we didn’t know any “locals”.  After developing trust in our photographer, Michael Pangilinan, and the venue owners, Pam and Craig Benson, we asked for recommendations from them. The most important thing was hearing from those we trusted for suggestions. Amazing ones, they were. This is how we found DPNAK Weddings, Epicurean Delight, and Jim and Kim’s Catering.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Hand-making the bridal party invites inspired the overall “vibe”. I used slices of branches, moss, and ink stamps. Everyone said “yes” to the “will you be my…” trinkets so I figured we’d try to stick to it.  A lot of “design” really came from the natural rustic setup at Fiddle Lake Farm and RSG Event Design’s implementation that made my dreamed vision come to life.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Hands down, my favorite part was finally bringing together both of our families and friends from near and far to celebrate our love for each other and those that taught us how to love. <3

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

If you find yourself or your “hubby-to-be” overwhelmed by a variety of forces, remind each other that this planning phase is only temporary, and this is why you are only doing this thing (getting married) once. So, take the time to inhale and exhale and find perspective about what’s important to you, because everything will turn out perfectly (you both will be married by the end of it all- and that’s the entire point of this intricate shin-dig).

Susan’s advice is spot-on! I love her recommendation to know what’s important to you- because that is the most important part about the celebration of your love!

Susan and Sam’s wedding was filled with meaningful details. Do you have any particular details that you’re planning on incorporating into your wedding that are especially meaningful to you?
