Hiring your wedding vendors is definitely one of the most exciting steps in your wedding planning process. It’s a point when your planning will really feel as though it’s in motion, and you’ll be checking things off your list!

Before you hire any members of your wedding vendor team, there are a few things you definitely should already know. We highlighted these in a past post, so click here to make sure you’re ready to move forward in the hiring process.

5 Tips For Hiring Your Wedding Vendors via TheELD.com

Once you have these five points in check, you’re ready to move on to the next step: inquiring, hiring, and communicating with vendors! This is a wedding planning step that shouldn’t be taken lightly, but you also shouldn’t feel overwhelmed by it. That’s why we’re here- to educate you and tell you about what to expect when it comes to all of this wedding stuff! ;)

Today, we’re offering you five of our best tips to help you hire your vendors and work well together… plus we polled our experienced V List members too!

1. Find the Right Fit

First and foremost, there’s a difference between finding a vendor and finding a vendor you can’t live without. You want to hire the latter. Make sure you’re both on the same page in terms of style. Further, make sure your personalities mesh well together. Your working relationship with your vendors is key, and liking who they are as people will make everything better. Finally, realize that sometimes vendors will voice that they don’t feel as though they’re the right fit for you or your wedding. Respect their choice just as you hope they will respect yours if you find yourself wanting to say the same words.

2. How to Inquire

Most wedding vendors have contact forms or emails on their websites, so never be afraid to send a note. When you’re first inquiring, it’s important to note your wedding date, city, a few details about you and your fiancé, and why you love the vendor’s work. Details always make a difference! Also, although their work schedule might be untraditional, wedding professionals do have hours similar to traditional businesses. It’s important not to expect a response when their office is closed, and it’s also important to know that inquiring over the weekend might mean waiting until the following week for a response because the pro is working a wedding.

“Respect the vendor’s business hours as much as possible. All too many times, clients have called or emailed after hours and sometimes, as the vendor, you feel obligated to answer. Also, it’s not ok to ask for a discount.” – Just Save The Date

3. Comfort is Key

When you hire a professional for your wedding, you should feel as though you are completely comfortable sharing all of your details about your day with them. That includes your plans, your dreams, and any issues you feel may occur before or on your wedding day (think: family relationships, being comfortable in front of a camera, etc). Your pros are on your side, and they want to be able to help.

“You must feel comfortable sharing with the vendors you select. We are here to help bring your vision to life. You shouldn’t be worried about telling us about everything from your budget to any personal/family issues that may impact the day. I personally take this information in confidence and would never betray that. If you think a vendor might, then they are not the right one for you.” – Andrea Layne Floral Design

4. Sign a Contract

Once you and your chosen vendor decide you’re both the right fit for each other, your wedding professional will want to send over a contract. In fact, you should expect it! A contract serves to protect both you and the wedding professional because it details the dates, times, services, and prices you’ve both agreed on (among many other things; every contract is different). You will want to read your contracts and discuss anything that doesn’t seem quite right. Once you sign your contract, make sure to save it for your reference and to forward on to your wedding planner if you opt to hire one. For more information, check out the video in this post!

5. Stay Organized & Communicate

Have a dedicated email address for all of your communication with your vendors, and make sure to keep all of your contracts together. Also, just as you expect your wedding professionals to reply in a timely manner, they expect the same from you. Lastly, if you feel as though one wedding vendor (or family member!) should consult with another, loop both in on the same email to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Staying organized and communicating will make planning your wedding that much more enjoyable.

What do love, laughter, a stunning black gown, and the most adorable pups have in common? They are just a few of the many amazing things from today’s stylish Palm Springs wedding that have me absolutely head over heels! Marc and Melanie chose to have their unconventional and heartfelt destination wedding at the beautiful Avalon Hotel (formerly Viceroy Palm Springs)- one of my favorite Palm Springs hotels! The chic, modern design aesthetic of the boutique hotel was a perfect setting for the couple’s stylish black and white wedding. Featuring a custom logo of their initials, M&M, at the forefront of their wedding design, tables were adorned with black and white runners, white florals housed in gold containers, and tons of glimmering candles. Marc and Melanie’s day was captured perfectly by Dana Grant Photography, and I cannot wait for you to see all of the amazingness for yourself. Oh, and did I mention Melanie’s breathtaking black wedding dress?

Marc + Melanie from Max And Molly Films

You know what I love most about this wedding? The fact that Marc and Melanie had a First Look, and Marc was still blown away by Melanie as she walked down the aisle. Not to mention how utterly adorable the two are- their happiness is absolutely contagious! Oh, and of course… THAT DRESS!

Tucson Styled Shoot from Serendipity Cinematography

From Lindsay Bishop Events:

When Michelle of Skyline Country Club approached me to collaborate on a styled shoot at her gorgeous venue, I couldn’t have been more ecstatic! Over the past year, there have been a number of beautiful styled shoots and weddings published showcasing Arizona’s desert. While our desert is gorgeous, there’s so much more to Arizona than just cacti. I really wanted to take a different approach; to take an opportunity to highlight some of Arizona’s other features, and Skyline Country Club was the perfect setting to do just that. Many people don’t know it, but south of Tucson we have some wonderful wineries!

So, Tina of Pure in Art Photography and I took inspiration from the Tuscan hillside, the gorgeous Tucson city views, and the Pantone Color of the Year, Marsala (because, how can you pass up a color named after a wine, when you’re doing a wine-inspired shoot?). Posh Petals adorned our birch wood ceremony arch with an asymmetrical garland filled with gorgeous dahlias and hanging amaranthus, mimicking hanging grapes on a vine. The bride’s bouquet incorporated the wild feeling of vines with pretty ferns and greenery, and the rich red tones are contrasted by enormous peach peonies. The bride wore a two piece gown by Tara Keely with a full, dreamy tulle skirt, which proved to be perfect when we were surprised with gusts of wind throughout the day. The blustering wind turned her clean and classic updo into a soft, romantic, and piece-y look, and Tina proved that a little weather can sometimes create the perfect amount of magic for a bride and groom who are able to go with the flow.

I love the placesettings, and the way that the color red was used so elegantly. And of course anything inspired by anywhere in Italy is amazing in my book- it’s my favorite place!

Although they hosted their Tennessee wedding in November, Kristen was adamant that she wanted to choose colors that were not traditionally used during the fall. Enter: Kristen and Jeff’s blush, gold, ivory, and green color palette! I’m slightly obsessed. Their colors worked perfectly with their sweet vintage theme, and I love how they introduced pumpkins from the bride’s family farm in similar shades to tie their design together. I also adore the heirloom quilts offered to guests during the ceremony (they were made by great, great grandmothers and aunts), as well as the design plan and rentals provided by the bride’s mom’s company, Vintage on Macon.

Kristen and Jeff’s wedding day centered on their love for their family, and there seriously isn’t anything better…except perhaps the photos captured by Erin Lindsay Images. Keep reading for all of Kristen’s wedding planning tips!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom helped me the most. She has been helping with weddings and parties as long as I can remember. When she began her business, Vintage on Macon, I was able to help her with almost every wedding. This is from brain storming, meeting with clients, and setting up. So, with the help of my mom and seeing the trends in the wedding industry I was able to create my ideal wedding.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important things for me was who could I trust to bring my vision to life and could make decisions without running to me on the day of the wedding. I wanted my friends and family to enjoy to day and have vendors that knew us well enough not to run to us with each question.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I have always been a girl that likes bling. So I knew I wanted things to have sparkle, but I wanted it to be in a classy way. I love vintage and I love incorporating things that show our backgrounds and things we like. We were able to include bling, birds, pumpkins, cotton, and flue de lis that represented both of us. Jeff is a boat captain and works on the Gulf Coast so we wanted to incorporate boats, fishing, and his love of Cajun food. I was raised on a farm and wanted to incorporate my love of pumpkins, cotton and the color pink.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about my wedding was hearing how much fun people had at our wedding. Also seeing my vision come to life. It was perfect and even better than I had hoped!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Have fun. Yes the planning is stressful, yes you want to please everyone, yes you need to stick to a budget, but have fun. When working at weddings I’ve seen so many brides that have been so stressed the day of their wedding and friends that don’t remember many details, so enjoy it! Relax! Have fun. Soak up each and every detail!

Kristen said that she would love to relive her wedding day, and that’s our favorite thing to hear… plus, we don’t blame her, because it looked amazing!
