Kelsey and Marko lived in London and planned their Colorado wedding day around it being a European affair in the Rocky Mountains. They found the perfect setting at Devil’s Thumb Ranch that made for an intimate celebration, complete with mountain views and a meteor shower to close out their night.

Planning a wedding across an ocean can be overwhelming, but this couple found comfort in the guidance of their planner, The Styled Soiree, who helped them focus their ideas and make decisions based upon what mattered most to them. A beautiful location, a mountain inspired menu, gorgeous colorful wildflowers from Emma Lea Floral and an unforgettable evening of celebration created their perfect wedding day.

We love the special moments and personal details that this couple shared with us, and you will surely love the stunning images that Sara Lynn captured throughout their day.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding (your vision, color, style, and location choices).

We worked hard to have a wedding that reflected us. It was an intimate group in the Rockies which is a place that we have spent a lot of time as a couple and we wanted to incorporate the natural beauty of the area as much as possible (outside ceremony and cocktail with sweeping views of the mountains). But we also wanted it to feel light and casual and used light touches and pops of color to keep it playful.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

The venue, food and music were our priorities. We wanted an outdoor venue with capacity to host our guests for the entire weekend and we chose regional food (elk & local salmon) and a live folk band which we thought would contribute to the atmosphere.

Neither of us felt very strongly about the invitations or programs on the day so we ordered these fairly cheaply through Minted.

And we are not big cake people, so instead opted for cupcakes in our favorite candy flavors.

What were your favorite parts of the day? (memories and stories)

Writing our own vows was a highlight of the day. While it was stressful and nerve-wracking, it made the ceremony so much more personal and special.

The wedding happened to coincide with a meteor shower and we saw many shooting stars with our guests!

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

Traditional Portuguese tiles played a large element in the design. The groom’s family is from Portugal and we wanted to incorporate his heritage into the experience. We used the tiles as table decorations with flowers and used the pattern in the pocket squares for the groomsmen and fathers.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Our wedding planner was a godsend! She helped us to manage everything, gave amazing advice on what to spend time and money on, and helped coordinate everything on the back end. While wedding planners are an extra cost, they are often worth it to simplify the process so that the couple can actually enjoy it!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Pick the top three priorities and focus on these, everything else doesn’t really matter.

Such a gorgeous evening, and how special that they got to enjoy a meteor shower and a sky of shooting starts with guests as the welcomed this new adventure!

The Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, Florida provided the perfect amount of drama, romance, and artistic flair for modern, elegant wedding ideas. We love that this team of vendors focused on embracing the genius and talent of the artists featured in the gallery by adding a balance of color, timeless pieces, and modern details that highlighted the elements found throughout the space.

The floral design crafted by Foxhound Floral  incorporated bolder hues that set the tone for the style. The arrangements featured bold pinks and shades of peach and purple, and a mix of high and low designs created an elegant look for the reception space. We loved the texture and shape of the large bridal bouquet, and it served a dual purpose as it found its home on the sweetheart table for the reception.

You will love all of the beauty and drama that the talented Debra Eby Photography Co. captured in this romantic night at the museum!

4 Steps To A Successful Wedding Budget via TheELD.com

4 Steps To A Successful Wedding Budget

By Abby McKinney of Heirloom Event Co.

Nothing can ruin the celebratory feeling of your engagement like the daunting thought of discussing a wedding budget with your family. The truth is, weddings are an investment for couples and their families, and money can be an awkward and uncomfortable subject to discuss. These four steps can facilitate a thoughtful discussion with your loved ones and lead to a clear understanding of your wedding budget from the very beginning.

4 Steps To A Successful Wedding Budget via TheELD.com

Step One: Get Clear on What is Most Important to You and Why.

The single most important thing you can do, to ease anxiety at the beginning of your planning process, is to have a discussion with your spouse-to-be about what elements of the wedding are most important to you and why. Talk about how you want to feel during your wedding day and what details and memories you want to look back on throughout your lives together. Choose a short list that includes the most important elements for both of you. Keep this list between 1-3 items and be able to articulate why each element is important to you. For example: “It is important to both of us that our wedding be held in the city we call home, because this is where we are putting down roots for our own family.” This is also the ideal time to talk about how much the two of you can financially contribute to your wedding.

The reality of life, family and budgets is that you have to compromise on some things during the planning process. When you are very clear on the items that are most important to you, it is easier to compromise on those items that don?t hold as much meaning.

Step Two: Identify and Talk with your “Stakeholders”

Once you have a better understanding of what is important to the two of you, it’s time to find out who else is contributing to your budget and at what level. Draft a short list of the most important financial and emotional stakeholders for your wedding. A stakeholder is someone whose opinion, feelings, and financial contribution are important to the wedding day. Most often this is both sets of your parents, but every family is different, so identify who the stakeholders are in your life. Anyone who is contributing a large sum of money to the wedding budget should be on this list, as well as those closest members of your life whose emotional tie to the wedding day is the highest. Keep this list as short as possible.

Don’t make the mistake of skipping conversations with those who have high emotional expectations from your wedding, but are not contributing financially. Take the time to listen to them and understand their expectations at the beginning and you will save yourself time, stress, and worry throughout your planning. You are not obligated to include any of their expectations in your planning, but if there are elements important to them that fit within your plans and budget, it’s a lovely gesture of kindness to include what you can. If their expectations do not match with your own, share the items that are most important to you and why they hold so much meaning. This helps them understand why you are making certain choices.

Schedule a time to talk with all the people on your Stakeholders list. In person or on the phone is the best way to have these discussions. Avoid having discussions by email until after concrete numbers have been discussed and agreed upon.

Step Three: Start the Discussion with a Positive and Grateful Mindset

Weddings carry a unique set of emotions, values and expectations. When attached to large sums of money, the whole subject can be one of the most difficult aspects of planning. Keep your focus positive and your mindset grateful and you will come out of the budget discussions with a much healthier outlook. The multitude of choices available today can lead to a distinct feeling of “lack” when we compare ourselves to what we see online. Nowhere is this more likely to come up than when discussing budgets. Focus on the elements most important to you and share them often with your family. At the end of this engagement journey, your marriage will be stronger and happier if you make the choice to focus on the positive aspects of your celebration and the wonderful things you do have.

Step Four: End the Discussion with a Clear Understandings of Contributions and Expectations

It’s important to leave your discussion with a clear understanding of what each person or family is willing to contribute financially and any expectations they have in return. Concrete numbers need to be discussed so you can begin to select vendors that fit within your budget needs. It?s also helpful to discuss whether the contribution will be a lump sum given directly to you, or if that family member or loved one will pay vendors and bills directly.

If tensions rise, or you cannot come to an understanding about certain elements of the wedding, don?t make any final decisions during the initial discussion. Use this time to listen to their wishes, talk about why your values are important to you and schedule a time to regroup. Forcing decisions and giving ultimatums, will only increase the stress.

Talking about your budget will not be as much fun as other tasks in your planning process, but skipping this step will cause more stress down the road when you are making decisions without a clear understanding of how much money you have to spend. Following these steps from the beginning will bring you clarity, a solid budget to start your planning, and less tears during your engagement!

Leaning on the support and guidance of their planner and family, Cathy and Bryan pulled off a beautiful Charleston wedding in the groom’s hometown. Set in the former cigar factory, The Cedar Room, they created a style that was a mix of modern elegance with the industrial structure of the space.

They chose a warm floral design of yellow roses and peach accents created by Floriography, which added a beautiful late summer pop to their design. We absolutely love the marble patterns and textures they brought into their table design with the linens from La Tavola Fine Linen, and pairing with blue goblets from Snyder Events created a bold contrast to the warm-toned blooms.

Make sure you catch the details that the bride shared with us about what made their wedding day extra special, and some of the surprises they experienced in the days and weeks before their wedding. Oh, and of course, you’re sure to be swept away with the gorgeous images that Jennings King Photography captured of their perfect day!

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

We wanted to make sure that the whole weekend truly felt like us! We wanted our guests to walk away from the weekend saying “wow, that was really Cathy and Bryan!” We felt that the photography and band were key elements to capture our day.

What were your favorite parts of the day? (memories and stories)

The whole thing!!!!!!! Everything was just perfect and magical!! There was a threat of rain, which prevented the intended location of where the bridal party photos were taken. But it did not rain on our parade!

We loved seeing everyone together – from all different parts of our lives. That was one of the things that made us so happy – other than getting married!

Bryan’s father wrote and sang a song for us and performed it during the reception.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

My wedding dress was my moms and the earring I wore were the ones my mother wore on her wedding day. I had a pearl necklace that was my late grandmothers!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Both of our mothers and our wedding planner, Lauren Fox (Fox Events) were incredible! My mother-in-law lived in Charleston, so she was the one to check out The Cedar Room for us, allowing us to book the venue before we were able to see it in person! Being from Houston (where my family still lives) – and having a hurricane hit the city the week before our wedding (45 guests were coming from there – including my parents, brother, grandmother, aunts and uncles, our officiant and a bridesmaid) made things very stressful last minute and a lot of things had to be changed at the very last minute. My mom and Lauren were incredible, did I mention that Lauren had a baby 3 days before our wedding (she had her baby a few weeks early)!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Take a deep breath and enjoy the journey. It may seem like a lot now, but every part of the process is worth it in the end!

What a beautiful attitude and advice for future couples. Keeping calm as things get stressful, and leaning on your team of professionals, family, and friends, is the perfect way to keep you grounded throughout the process. And can we give a shout out to their planner, Lauren from Fox Events?!? Pulling this stunning day together only days after giving birth deserves so much praise.

Congrats Cathy and Bryan as you embark on this next big adventure!
