I cannot begin this post without saying one simple statement: I have never seen a beach soiree look as glamorous as today’s Islamorada wedding. Lauren and Robert reside in Atlanta, and Lauren spent many vacations with her family at the beach while she was growing up. Robert also loves being by the sun, sand, and sea, so their wedding locale became an obvious one.

Together the pair visited many cities and venues in Florida before ultimately selecting Postcard Inn in beautiful Islamorada. It turned into a serendipitous find because they were able to enjoy an incredible destination wedding with their guests while also honoring Lauren’s grandparents who honeymooned in the Florida Keys many years prior.

Together with her mom and expert planner, Event Bliss, Lauren and Robert created a wedding day filled with clean lines, a classic palette of white, navy, and a hint of blush, and fabulous Old Hollywood details (the flowers designed by L+R’s planner are fantastic!). Their ceremony was held on the sand, music transported guests through the decades, and dinner and dancing followed under string lights and a beautiful moon with waves crashing nearby.

The images captured by Tiffani Jones Photography are marvelous, and you will also have to keep reading in order to glean so much from Lauren’s thoughtful insight into her planning process.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I wanted to stay as far away from a theme as possible. I very much dislike how many events often look like they are pulled out of a pre-packaged bag, with very little character, charm or individual taste. I wanted to pull from some of my favorite elements: an up-scale, old-Hollywood/deco-inspired beach bash – without any “beach” flavors aside from the beautiful surroundings we were within. I love the juxtaposition these elements create – and feel somewhat unexpected when put all together! Even talking to various planners/vendors in the area, I could tell it wasn’t something they come across often, which was entirely reassuring it was something I wanted to move forward with.

I wanted to keep everything mostly white – with some navy & (very) light peach accents – alongside metallics (with gold being my favorite). I’m a stickler for clean lines. It helps your eye rest, focus and appreciate the details and accents you consciously selected to stand out.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite moment, may have been after the Ceremony and during the Family Portraits… I overheard the Cocktail Hour music playing. It made me so excited to HEAR the vibe I so badly wanted to be conveyed – and there it was. It was all coming together and it was thrilling. I also very much enjoyed taking the portraits with my (new!) husband, on one side of the property that I had been dreaming of taking photos at since I first fell in love with the property. The sunset was perfect – more than I had expected, and it was finally a time to relax while not being in the limelight of so many people. I also loved hearing some of my favorite music play over dinner while at the head table with some of my closest “people” – again observing everything I envisioned right there in front of my face – as well as the very dreamt of event of running through the sparklers at the end of the night (to then get on a runaway golf cart …that got stuck in the sand!).

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

For destination brides, definitely make sure you have a planner from the on-set of your wedding. You need someone to talk to, vent & understand what you are dealing with – all while knowing the local landscape & associated logistics. He/She should match your personality, and have a very important characteristic: to listen!! My planner was fantastic in being a partner to me, but also letting me take absolute control/freedom with my vision. She really helped with some of the more “unexpected” challenges right before the wedding, and day-of – which was great considering we had worked together all along, discussing the vision & plans – so she was best equipped to manage them in a fashion that I was comfortable with. Also make sure you visit the locations you are interested in before signing with a particular venue. Photography can really make something look different than it is, and was a somewhat eye-opener for my mom & I as we visited properties that looked beautiful online – but were so blatantly flawed in-person.

Secondly, I (perhaps foolishly) would say that you will go over budget. I highly suggest you outline your ideal situation, and track it as you go (Excel!). You will come to a point after you’ve secured your vendors but don’t have all of the intricate details confirmed, where you will see that you either have to sacrifice some of your vision or increase your budget. At this point, it’s a great opportunity to think through how much you are willing to sacrifice or go over – and then stick to THAT adjusted budget!! (Or it can always continue to increase!)

Julia and David’s elegant wedding took place at the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island, and I’m convinced it was everything that dreams are made of. A gorgeous color palette boasting rich tones of purples and reds set the stage for a luxurious, elegant wedding design. Bridesmaids in purple, red florals, and champagne and gold accents made for an absolutely gorgeous day. And when you add in Julia’s lace Monique Lhuillier gown, the presence of Julia and David’s pups, and it’s captured by our favorite, Brooke Images, it’s perfection- I can’t wait for you to see!

There is nothing we love more than themed weddings, and these summer camp inspired wedding ideas have absolutely stolen our hearts! Drawing inspiration from their favorite summer camp activities, the Ivory + Beau team created a wedding look designed to be reminiscent of warm summer days at camp, and all the paper chains, friendship bracelets, and s’mores that go along with them.

A lakeside sunset ceremony sets a fun, eclectic tone, with a birch archway accented by yards of paper chains draped across it as the focal point for the ceremony design. A string light-clad pavilion was the perfect spot for the reception, complete with place settings with scavenger hunts to encourage guests to get involved with the surroundings. Wood farm tables adorned with wildflowers, berries, and foraged greenery provided just the right amount of beauty, combining with the outdoors to create a rustic, eclectic look. Oh, and of course we can’t forget friendship bracelets… everyone loves friendship bracelets! We can’t wait for you to see all of this inspiration captured by Apt B Photography, and we hope you’re just as inspired by this design as we were!

Funny enough, I do know a few people who met at Summer Camp and ended up getting married- this would have been a perfect theme for them! That’s why I love themes… because they can tell the story of a couple’s relationship through design and details!

MyVan and Rich first met on her first day as a freshman at the University of South Florida. Rich conveniently knew where MyVan’s apartment was located, and the pair would later work together for a local housing company. When Rich graduated, he moved to New York City to persue a graduate degree, and he also pursued a long distance relationship with M!

Their Florida wedding day was preceded by an engagement in one of the South’s most glorious cities – Savannah. The gorgeous Spanish moss cascading down from the trees at their wedding venue, Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort, reminds me of their engagement locale! The pair leaned on family, friends, and wedding vendors to help them plan their beautifully classic day filled with blush, ivory, gold, and glitter and the most lovely florals from FH Weddings & Events.

There is so much joy and golden-filled light in today’s photos from Andi Diamond Photography, and I’m so excited to share M+R’s wedding day with Y-O-U!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

It actually is hard to say who or what helped me the most because it was a combination of everything. I planned the wedding mostly without a full time planner so I used Weddingwire to look for local vendors that had great reviews. That is actually how we found Andi, our amazing photographer. Andi was one of the first vendors we found and she was a huge help throughout the whole process. Although she is not a planner, she had a great network of vendors that she’s worked with before so I know that I can trust them to make everything beautiful. We also received tips from family members, such as Rich’s sister, that have gone through the planning process before. For our wedding day, we hired a day of coordinator, Edith from E& E creations, who ended up doing a little more than just the day of. Edith really made sure that everything would be OK before the wedding and during the wedding. Even our venue’s director and coordinator really made sure every single detail was in place on or wedding day.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Although it was important for us to try and stay within budget, it was more important to us to find vendors who were experienced in the field because there was no going back and fixing our wedding day.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I wanted to go for a softer, romantic look so I decided to go with the colors blush, gold and ivory. I added little bits of glitter accents in there to make it a little more “glamorous”.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

There were many things that I loved about our wedding but I’d have to say that it was when my two maids of honor sang a song for their speech. They made up the song based on Rich and I’s relationship and sang it to the tune of ’N Sync’s “It’s Gonna Be Me”. It was totally unexpected and one of the best moments!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I think my best piece of advice for other brides is that it’s OK to ask for help and to really use your support system. There were really stressful moments in the planning process where I wanted to do everything myself but eventually realized that a wedding is big event and one person won’t pull it off.
