With help from their florist and both of their mothers, Caroline and Troy designed a beautiful rustic elegant wedding filled with fabulous details and a ton of beautiful blooms. Because they adore Alabama, Caroline and Troy hosted their guests at The Barn at Shady Lane in Birmingham. Both are Auburn fans, and I love how they incorporated Aubie the Tiger into their cake, plus each of the groomsmen sported cufflinks representing their respective universities (Auburn included!). And, I cannot leave out the stunning floral ceiling. Boho Designs had the ingenious idea to hang a variety of flowers, including tulips, roses, and baby’s breath from the barn’s rafters. I’m sure jaws dropped as guests walked into the reception! Huge thanks to Jett Walker Photography for taking such stunning photos of Caroline and Troy’s wedding day!
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
I actually planned my entire wedding myself. I did not have a wedding planner or anything like that. My mother and (now) mother-in-law are probably the people who helped me the most.
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
Having a connection with who I worked with was extremely important to me. My florist and I clicked immediately at our first meeting. He and I were on the same page throughout the process, which made my trust him and not have any worries. The same thing happened with my photographer. She had I ended up having so many mutual friends through college, even though we didn’t know each other, that made the trust and comfort with her happen quickly.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
I wanted everything to be beautiful, very inviting inviting, but also different. After searching Pinterest for hours on end, I wanted some aspect of my wedding to be something different, that no one had seen before. Then my florist brought the idea of hanging the flowers from the ceiling and that was it!
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Marrying my husband of course! But besides that, its so hard to choose. Everything was so perfect. The band was amazing, and the flowers were stunning, my dress was totally me and I had the greatest night of my life! Wait, was I supposed to only pick one?
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
DO NOT STRESS! I know that is so much easier to say than do. I honestly had about a solid month where I was completely stressed out, but it helped nothing. My day was perfect, and yours will be too. Don’t let the plans get in the way of what that day is truly about. You are getting to marry the love of your life, surrounded by friends and family that love you as well. Have fun!
