A modern preppy style with beautiful classic details created a colorful and cheerful setting for this Naples wedding day!

Set at the colorful Naples Bay Resort, the team at Wedding Lux guided Kelsey and Zach as they navigated through planning their wedding, and we love how the details of the day came together. Bold navy blues with pops of bright colors were a perfect balance to the classic, preppy style of this bride and groom. From the white blooms carried by the wedding party, to the bursts of orange and pink throughout the ceremony and reception design, Tom Trovato‘s floral designs created a perfect balance to the contrasting navy and white throughout the design of the day.

We love how Lana Ponomarenko Photography captured such precious moments for these two, and we hope you enjoy the beauty and joy celebrated throughout this sweet couple’s wedding day!

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.

Naples Florida was Kelsey and Zach’s first vacation together in 2014. Both had traveled there prior with friends and family and had wonderful memories there. They had both invisioned having a destination wedding and this served as the perfect spot since Kelsey’s parents have a place there. They wanted to be surrounded by their family and best friends in an intimate ceremony performed by Zach’s Dad followed by a live band, bright colors and lots of love. Navy gold and ivory were the staple colors as the venue was a beautiful marina surrounded by boats and colorful condos.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Everything from start to finish. We loved doing a first look and having all our family and bridal party pictures before the ceremony. It was very special having Zach’s Dad marry us. At the end of the night we had a trolley bring everyone down the street to an Irish pub since we didn’t want the night to end. Being surrounded by all our family and friends as the sun set behind us as we became husband and wife took the cake.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

Kelsey used her grandmothers wedding band as hers. She also wore her great grandmothers bracelet, sister in laws earrings, other grandmothers ring sewn to her bouquet and wore Zach’s grandmothers bracelet.

A timeless, classic wedding style with a champagne and blush color palette gave a regal feel to this look created by Maura Deegan Events. With a focus on simplicity and elegance, the team created a design that offered an air of romance that we love.

With the simplistic beauty of the stationery from Andrea Creative Co, they set the tone with a classic calligraphy style and muted tones. White blooms mixed with loose greenery were designed by Good Earth Flowers in a modern style, but still offered a classic feel to the overall design. Simple, elegant, classic, and timeless are the perfect descriptors for this lovely style that was beautifully captured by Marianne Blackham Photography, and we can’t wait for you to see!

Choosing a venue is one of the first big decisions that a couple must make when starting their wedding planning, and it really sets the tone for the entire wedding day. Robyn and Wesley chose to have their intimate Jacksonville wedding take place at the groom’s parent’s house, which allowed for a day full of personal touches that were so very unique to them!

With a year of backyard projects behind them to get the property into party shape, they created an evening of rustic elegance complete with wood details, long feasting tables, romantic candlelight, and long, lush garlands, bringing their vision to life. With the help of their planner, Coastal Coordinating, and beautiful floral designs from Southern Grace Floral Designs, they were able to pull off a lovely evening of beautiful details and joyous celebration with family and friends.

Bethany Walter Photography captured every detail and special moment that made this couple’s wedding day perfect. We’re thrilled to share these images, along with Robyn and Wesley’s inspiration behind the design of their day.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.

We really wanted our ceremony held under a big oak tree and loved the idea of the reception being under lights and chandeliers. We had discussed having the wedding at Wesley’s parent’s house when we first got engaged, but didn’t know how difficult it would be to pull that off. We visited about 8 different venues in the Jacksonville area and couldn’t find one that fit what we wanted (including our budget). In the end, we decided to just go for it and pull off a backyard wedding….and it came together far better than we ever could have imagined thanks to our vendors, family, and friends!

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

The most important thing was photography. We knew all we would have to remember the details of our day were our photos. So we wanted to ensure we had a fantastic photographer who was there to capture the whole day.

We loved the look of greenery running the length of the reception tables and splurged a little to get this look.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

  1. Getting ready – we both loved getting to spend time with our closest friends and family members while getting ready. That is a unique and special time that truly makes you appreciate the wonderful people in your life.
  2. Our first look – we had gone back and forth on whether to do a first look or not, but we are SO GLAD we went with it! Getting to share some intimate moments and get some of the butterflies out before the ceremony was much appreciated and an experience we treasured.
  3. Wesley’s grandmother dancing – Wesley’s grandmother, “Gran,” is a clogger and she LOVES to dance. Seeing her out on the dance floor clogging and breaking it down with one of Wesley’s groomsmen was priceless.
  4. The exit – we had borrowed an old MG for our grand exit car…we should have taken it for a few test drives before our exit; we couldn’t figure out how to get the lights to work and had to sit in the driveway for an extra 3-5 minutes while our guests helped us figure out the lights. It made for a good laugh.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

  1. Give yourself time – we had initially thought we would have a short engagement, but were VERY glad we ended up having a year and a half to plan! It’s not an easy process.
  2. Hire a day-of-coordinator…at least! Our coordinator was such a blessing. She truly did everything in her power to ensure that the day ran smoothly. She took a great deal of stress off of us both the month leading up to, and on wedding day.I cannot imagine how much of a wreck I would have been on wedding day without her.
  3. Don’t sweat the small stuff – no one knows how your wedding day is supposed to look or go. If something doesn’t go according to plan, try not to worry about it – the only one who knows is you.
  4. Hold true to what you want – there are a lot of opinions and visions that come forward when wedding planning. Make sure you stick with the vision you want – others will understand and you will be happy you did!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Family and friends – both of our parents played HUGE roles in the planning process, whether it was reaching out to vendors or completing items on the checklist. Wesley’s mom was amazing at keeping things organized and keeping us on schedule during the planning process. On wedding day, there were different teams of family and friends that each had different roles, such as table and chair set up, decorations, and cake/cupcake pick up. Our wedding day certainly would not have happened without the hours of assistance put in by our families and friends.

We love the touches of elegance that this couple brought to this rustic backyard celebration! Are any of you planning a backyard soirée?

With classic elegance, and touches of homemade details created by the bride and her mother, Hannah and Patrick’s Chicago wedding offered vibrant pops of color, and a beautiful timeless style that provided the perfect setting for their heartfelt celebration.

Despite battling a heavy downpour, Nicole Jansma Photography captured this sweet couple at Wilder Park Conservatory for beautiful portraits after their ceremony. Patrick and Hannah put great thought into the details that made their day so special, and we love that both of them shared memorable moments and their favorite highlights from the day with us.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.

From Patrick: Our wedding was the beautiful, elegant, gold, and burgundy vision of my amazing wife, Hannah. She had a classic, gorgeous wedding dress while I was in a jet black tuxedo. To compliment these, we were able to find the perfect church and reception venue. Because my family is from the southern suburbs of Chicago and hers is from the northern suburbs, we tried to find venues somewhere in the middle. After tirelessly searching all of Chicagoland, we found River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst, IL; this venue was the perfect combination of size, price, location, and luxurious setting we were looking for. Coincidentally enough, a few minutes down the road was the church Hannah attended as a child, St. Alexander’s Catholic Church in Villa Park, IL. This church was beautiful and held meaning to our family – what more could we ask for?

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

From Hannah: I would say that the most important thing to the two of us was that we were able to include as many important people in our day as possible. We had our godparents, aunts, and uncles as readers during the ceremony, our cousins were ring bearers and the flower girl, and my grandma handed out Communion and said prayer before dinner. It made our day all the more special because we were able to have such significant people play a part in our wedding.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

From Patrick: I have three favorite memories from our wedding day: one from before the wedding, one from the ceremony, and one from the reception. My first memory took place in my groomsman’s hotel room while all of the girls were getting their hair and makeup done. My groomsman, our two ring bearers, and I were jumping on his bed and having a pillow fight. We then barricaded the room with the mattress and attacked our other groomsmen with pillows as they entered the room one by one. Needless to say we all had an absolute blast that morning. My next favorite memory was when I saw Hannah walking down the aisle towards me. She looked even more beautiful than I could even imagine as she walked towards me with our eyes locked the entire time. I was completely overwhelmed with happiness to know my best friend was coming to officially be my wife. My last favorite memory was our first dance together. That felt like the culmination of the reception with just us two, and nobody else mattered, but we still had our family and friends around us sharing in this intimate moment.

From Hannah: My most favorite memory of the day was our first dance. By that time, we had gone through the entire ceremony, cocktail hour, cake cutting, and dinner, so that was when we finally had a moment to just ourselves without any pressure or stress of what was coming up next. The song we had picked matched us and our day so perfectly and I could not even begin to describe the amount of love I felt all in one place as our family and friends looked on.

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

From Hannah: Pretty much everything! My mom designed and hand-assembled all of the stationery (save the dates, invitations, response cards, directions, etc.) for the wedding, which was so special since Pat and I could really have a say in how we wanted our suite to look. We put together flip-flop baskets for guests that wanted to kick off their heels before heading out to the dance floor, made gold glitter hangers for all the bridesmaids’ dresses and getting-ready robes, and created amazing custom wine bottle labels with our engagement photos printed on them. My mom also helped my Grannie sew an 80 ft aisle runner for the Church and even embroidered on one of our ceremony readings to the end. All of the decorations in the reception hall were hung and set up the day before. Biggest and best of all, my mom and I made hundreds of paper flowers and created a huge 8x8ft rose wall for the backdrop of our photo booth. It was one of the absolute greatest ideas that we had come up with and our guests had so much fun standing in front of the wall and snapping pictures.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

From Hannah: I wanted to make sure that I included as many family members and traditions in my wedding as possible. Pat and I went to have our rings blessed a few weeks before the wedding by the priest that married my parents. I wore my Grannie’s wedding band on my right hand as my “something old” and my “something borrowed” was an embroidered handkerchief – the same “something borrowed” that my mom had used at her own wedding. My “something blue” was a fabric heart that had been sewn inside my dress over my own heart. The heart came from a t-shirt from a cousin that had passed away and had been something my mom was saving for my wedding.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

From Hannah: A few things: 1). People aren’t joking when they tell you that your engagement and wedding go by in the blink of an eye. Take a minute as often as you can to slow down and enjoy everything that is going on because before you know it, it will be 1am and everyone is catching the last shuttle back to the hotel and your DJ is announcing it is the last song. 2). Listen to other’s opinions but remember at the end of the day it is your wedding and you only get married once. If you want a giant flower wall or to do your first dances out of order, do it! You get one day so you had best make it exactly how you want it. 3). Don’t let the stress of the wedding planning or the checklist of things to do get in between you and your fiancé. The entire reason you are getting married is because of one another so make sure you still take time to enjoy each other’s company, go on a date once in a while, and enjoy the planning together!

So many sweet moments and special details, but that gorgeous paper floral wall was a favorite for us. We are so impressed by this bride and her mother, and their incredible talent with some of these projects. This installation was a show stopper, and we love that it was a project that was pulled off with great heart and sentiment.
