I love it when I see a wedding with a color palette that is “new” to a certain style or theme, and this pink and orange wedding from BG Productions is a great twist to the usual Fall wedding that we see!

From the bride, Kim:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

The support we had from our bridal party (especially my MOH) and our families made the planning process very easy. By far, my best helper was pinterest! It allowed me to search and organize all of my visions for the wedding, and helped me best communicate with all of my vendors. Especially helpful with the florist, I was able to express every little detail and show exactly what we wanted for everything. It helped organize my thoughts and envision each portion of the wedding!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important thing we looked for when deciding on vendors, is if we connected with them on a personal level. If we didnt click or have a flowing conversation we knew we had to find someone more suited for our tastes/personality so we could share our vision exactly. And we knew if we clicked at the first meeting they would be awesome on our wedding day to work with.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Mostly it was our reception site! It was such a great place, as soon as I saw it I knew I could have fun with it. The Merion Tribute House was unlike any other place we had seen before, it had such a historical background and its comfort (with couches & fireplaces) drew us in immediately. It inspired such a perfect fall-vintage feel. Shabby-chic/vintage was something I was always drawn to as a child with my grandmothers, so I kept that in mind through out the whole planning process. And of course fall is our favorite time of year!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Besides our reception site that inspired everything, I think my favorite thing about the wedding was by far the flowers, it was so amazing working with our florist. She was able to make my vision come to life, the arrangements she did surpassed my requests and really brought everything together. Working with someone who is so passionate about their work makes for a great experience. It was unique and i felt like it personalized the entire wedding. I have to mention that my 2nd favorite thing was all of the dancing! It was non-stop all night, I loved spending time with all of our guests on the dance floor–We’ll always remember all of the special things that happened while dancing that night!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

During the planning process stay true to your instincts and what you want. Don’t get caught up in all of the extra details–stay focused on the big picture. That is what everyone remembers, also what you and your groom remember. If you want something, go for it- everyone has their idea of what your wedding should look like but its your day–you need to be happy with your decisions! On the day of, make sure that there is a time you and your groom can take a step back alone together and just soak it in. During dinner, we had a sweet heart table, and before we ate we just sat there, took a breath and took that moment to look at everyone enjoying themselves; they were there for us. And remember that’s what its all about.

I love all of Kim’s advice! And I just love the pink and orange color palette for a Fall wedding- it’s so different!

Are any of you doing a color palette outside of the “norm” for your wedding’s season? What is it?

I just love the blues and yellows throughout their day! But my favorite detail has to be the invitation- I just love the simple, classic invite with a fun dash of yellow and the nautical style throughout!

So brides, how about you? Are you infusing your colors or theme into your invitations too?

Have a fabulous weekend all!

Cheers!
Samm

I love this modern black and white wedding from Concept Photography. This sleek color palette pairs well with the super cool – and colorful – art museum setting. The fun couple, Katie and Matt, are here to share their insight:

What inspired your vision for your wedding?

We wanted a classic look that would stand the test of time. I have always loved black and white and envisioned a cocktail/lounge reception where people could spend time dining and drinking, lounging with good friends in conversation or dancing to a live band. We wanted our guests to be a part of a sophisticated but relaxed party.

Tell us about finding your venue:

We wanted to think outside the box and avoid the traditional hotel reception. We both have a passion for art and the clean lines and modern atmosphere of the Orlando Museum of Art fit their vision perfectly.

What was your biggest planning challenge?

The biggest challenge was staying within our budget – which didn’t happen! Ha-ha!

What was your favorite design element of your wedding?

We loved our lounge furniture and high top cocktail tables. Guests could sit if they wanted but did not have assigned seating. My (Katie’s) mom designed black and white pillows for each of the couches and ottomans. “Mr.” and “Mrs.” pillows sat on our loveseat at our sweetheart table. We also loved our “Haute Dog Station” where Gator Dogs, Pitt Dogs, and Southern Cross Dogs were served. Each style of hot dog was a personal touch that Matt and I wanted to make sure represented us.

Did you have any DIY details?

My mom, a costume designer, wanted to make us unique pillows for our furniture.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

Matt: “Seeing Katie for the first time at our first look, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was.”

Katie: “Coming around the corner as my dad walked me down the aisle and looking only at Matt as we were surrounded by 100 of our closest friends and family. Also, when we went to cut our cake we took a look at all of our friends and family who were wearing their glow in the dark sunglasses – the room was filled with love and laughter.”

I love all of the fun food details in this wedding! The “haute dog” theme carries through from the save-the-dates and provides a great personal touch. Are you planning to get creative with your menu? I’d love to hear your ideas!

XOXO,
Carlee

Hi friends! I’m back with another Lessons Learned post for you all (you can see previous posts here) today! This one is full of some excellent lessons, courtesy of my friend Cris of Kiss My Tulle. Cris had a DIY backyard wedding at her home in Texas, and she has some great advice for you all!

Lessons Learned: People WANT To Help! via TheELD.com

Lesson Learned…

People WANT to help you. I had loads of help bringing both my weddings together. For our impromptu civil ceremony, my family spent a day doing some cute crafty type projects (like a pompom garland and a tree stump cake stand) and the guests participated in a potluck reception. For my “real” wedding, dozens of people hung out at my house the week before and did tons of projects (built a porch on our house, cleared the ceremony site, and did bunches of DIY projects). Everyone wanted to help. In fact, I was running out of things for people to do!

Lesson Learned…

Nothing is guaranteed. I planned our wedding a year and a half out to allow my Alaskan family to make plans and to save up money to pay for the wedding. Well, I spent nearly a year of that time unemployed. Then, a few months after our engagement, my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and we know he wouldn’t be alive for our “real” wedding. So we had a civil ceremony in Alaska for him and cut back on our expenses so we could afford our other wedding.

Lesson Learned…

A really great photographer will make any wedding look amazing. I splurged and a budgeted for a killer photographer and everyone thought I was crazy. Until our photos came back – then everyone got it. She made our middle-aged selves look incredible and our simple, backyard wedding stunning. People went crazy over the photos and told me repeatedly how smart I was to invest in a fab photographer.
