From the bride, Kate:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom is very sick, so when Matt and I were talking about our future and our wedding, we realized we wanted to get married soon. Fortunately, with the help of Pinterest and Every Last Detail, I pretty much had already made most of my decisions by the time he proposed at the end of December. Picking Heather Snively at Weddings Unique as my wedding planner was an easy decision. She is the best of the best in Central Florida and she is the one who helped me most. When we sat down for our first meeting, I left feeling at ease and not at all overwhelmed that I was getting married in two months. She asked what I envisioned my wedding being like and off she went! Jane McLean, Director of Social Event at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando, also helped me out a lot with all the planning. Jane and her team made our wedding day absolutely amazing. I keep hearing so many compliments about the staff at the Waldorf Astoria which really impressed me.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Having a reputation of excellence was the most important thing to me. This is the reason why I chose to have our wedding at the Waldorf Astoria and also why I asked Heather Snively at Weddings Unique to be our wedding planner and Tommy Murphy at Greenery Productions to be our florist. Being able to completely trust them knowing that they would handle any curve balls thrown our way allowed me to relax and enjoy the day. For example, the ceremony was suppose to take place outside on the island. Of course, the weather did not cooperate, but I didn’t have a care in the world because I knew between the three of them, it was going to be absolutely beautiful! And oh my goodness did they deliver! It was absolutely breathtaking!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We wanted our wedding to feel like Easter Sunday brunch with everyone relaxing, eating amazing food, and enjoying conversation. I wanted white and ivory to be the predominant colors with accents of lavender and silver. I love antique keys, so when was thinking of what to do for wedding favors, I came across a bottle opener in the shape of an antique key and loved it! I had been searching for ideas for the table numbers and various “day of” signs and hadn’t been too inspired… until I saw Kim McFadden’s (from Chalk Shop Events) work. Her fonts were elegant with a touch of whimsy, which is exactly how I had described to Heather what I wanted our wedding to be. When I had my meeting with her, she showed me the big chalk board designed so that guests could take pictures in front of it, and I knew it was that missing piece that I was looking for. Matt and I had found an app for our guests to download that contained information about the wedding day (directions, registries, etc) as well as a gallery where they could upload pictures they took through out the day. Combining this app and the board was perfection! It was like having a gigantic photo booth tailored to our wedding!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I think it’s easy for brides to get caught up in the thought that their wedding day must be perfect that they lose sight of the big picture- you are getting to marry the love of your life! I know nothing ever goes completely the way I want it to go, so I hired people that I knew would be able to handle any glitches or changes that surfaced. But here’s the harest part… you have to let go and trust them. But I think the best advice that I could give is to keep things simple and only do the things that you really want to do. Matt and I didn’t have a unity ceremony or the garder/bouquet toss. Keeping things simple and not having so much to do really let us enjoy being with each other and our guests during the day.

Katie’s advice to not lose sight of the “big picture” of your wedding is such a great reminder! And I’m absolutely in love with all of the amazing chalkboard details, aren’t you?

Brides- are any of you planning on incorporating chalkboard details into your own wedding?

One of the things I miss most about the South is all of the beautiful coastal venues; the majestic oak trees and lovely Spanish moss make me so happy! I was thrilled to see this sweet wedding from Shipra Panosian Photography, full of family heirlooms, vintage details and the palest shades of pink and green – sure to please the romantic in us all. The stunning bride, Devon, is here to share her planning insight:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom and I worked together the most. Don’t get me wrong, my amazing husband did a lot, but I knew what not to bother him with and what he would enjoy (food, building things for the reception, and planning the cigar and whiskey bar). My mom and I are very close so she knows what I like and what I don’t like. She was also really good at telling me what she would like to see and if I said no, she would say “that is fine, it is your day”.

For the day of my wedding, our caterer Rachel Horan was also my “Day of Planner”, she was fantastic and was able to make sure every last detail was just like I had envisioned.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

My work schedule is so busy and I am out of town every week, so it was important for me to feel a connection with each vendor. I actually had several first meetings with vendors on Skype! We choose each vendor because our conversations felt organic and when we explained our vision they were receptive. It is important to research your vendor and find the one that fits with your personality and doesn’t try to make you conform to their ideas. Don’t be afraid to tell a vendor what you want too.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Every girl dreams about her wedding and has an idea of what she wants, but I knew what I wanted down to the tiniest detail, and it was a day filled with love, laughter, and forever memories. My inspiration was my family, we are very close and love each other deeply. I decided to go for a soft, romantic, and vintage theme. I was able to incorporate that into the wedding by using my grandparents cake topper, my parents cake knife, mini frames were attached to my heels with my dad’s picture in them (so he could walk me down the aisle). I also kept the wedding small, it was our closest friends and family.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Marrying Patrick! There were so many wonderful parts of our wedding that I loved, but I did have a favorite moment which I knew nothing about. My dad passed away almost two years ago so he was not there for father daughter dance. I still did the dance with my mom, to a song that my dad and I had picked out when I was 8 years old. As my mom and I were dancing my brother cut in to dance with me, then my uncle cut in to dance with me, then my dad’s best friend cut in to dance with me, and finally my husband cut in to dance until the end of the song. There was not a dry eye around. It is a memory that is so incredibly special to me and I know it is something my dad would have wanted.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My advice is to get it all done way before the wedding! It is not for every bride, but I was super organized and had a spreadsheet to track all my purchases, payments, and to-do lists. I set realistic dates for everything to be completed and wanted to be done no less than 3 weeks before the wedding. Now, there are items that will pop up last minute but you won’t be as stressed if everything else is done.
You only get married once and you deserve to sit back and relax the day of your wedding. Tell your parents you love them, laugh with your girlfriends, have a glass of champagne, and most importantly spend time with your husband once you say “I do”.

Wonderful advice, Devon! I love that she got her groom involved to help plan out their special details. I especially love the bourbon and whiskey bar! Mr. Sizemore gives his stamp of approval as well. Specialty stations like the tasting bar get your guests involved and are a great conversation starter. Are you planning a fun tasting station or similar? I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments below!

XOXO,
Carlee

One of my favorite color combinations is pink and aqua- it’s so fun and bright! Pair it with a vintage style and lots of great DIY, and you have today’s fabulous wedding from Milou + Olin Photography! Heather and Travis wanted to create an environment that reflected the very definition of them as a couple- and so everything that was used was hand picked by both of them. They loved the idea of recycling the old and finding the beauty in past times, and the vintage DIY style was perfect for them!

I love those ribbon chandeliers, don’t you? So fun! And how fabulous are those bridesmaid dresses?! Everything about this pink and aqua wedding is so fun- and you can certainly tell by the photos that the bride, groom, and everyone else had a great time!

So tell me- what will you be incorporating into your wedding to reflect you and your fiance?
