Yes my friends, you’re reading that right- a street party wedding! Bride and groom Ashleigh and Britton absolutely loved their neighborhood, and their ideal wedding was a fun and carefree block party with all of their favorite people! Blush, mauve, and neutral tones added a bit of elegance to this eclectic celebration, and the oh-so-amazing Let’s Frolic Together was there to capture it all! And not only that, but after the wedding, I’m also sharing the rehearsal dinner from this wedding weekend, which was a perfect complement to the beautiful and fun wedding! The bride is here with us today to share more about her wedding planning:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

By far the biggest help in my wedding process was Aisha Jau of eeshyourheartout.com — I hired her as an independent creative consultant. She worked with event coordinator Kristeen LaBrot to pull of an incredible unique wedding that was exactly what I wanted. Aisha has this amazing gift for taking all of my ideas and pulling them off in this incredibly artistic, thoughtful way.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I wanted to work with someone who would really listen to my ideas. A street party wedding is not exactly typical and I wanted to work with a free thinker who would get excited about the uniqueness and challenge of it. I also didn’t want to work with an event coordinator directly and oversee details. I guess you could say I wanted to hire someone else to focus on every last detail for me and Aisha did exactly that!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I wanted everything to feel free-spirited and authentic but at the same time I wanted it to be tasteful and well executed. Staying true to an inner city street party vibe was important to us because my husband and I love our neighborhood. But pulling that off in a way that still felt elegant and beautiful was where Aisha came in.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

There were so many details that really made it stand out. Having a homemade ice cream cart from Cottam’s Creamery and hand cut coconuts by the Coconut Guy were two of my favorite things. I loved having the celebration outside in the street. It was a true LA wedding!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Stick to your guns about what your vision is but rely on talented people to help you pull it off. My conservative parents were appalled when they found out we wanted to do an inner city wedding and have it open to the neighborhood. But I stuck to that vision and on the day of, they ended up having the best time of anyone there. We managed to do the wedding that we wanted but still be thoughtful and attentive of our guests and family. Everyone tells us it was one of the most memorable events they’ve ever attended!

That has to be some of the BEST advice I’ve heard! And don’t you just love the intimacy and fun of every aspect of this wedding weekend? I mean… wanting to resemble a street party is pretty awesome. :)

So what do you think of the “street party” theme for a wedding? Would you do it?

Now that May is upon us (okay, who am I kidding- it’s HERE), it means that I can finally share these amazing Kentucky Derby wedding ideas with you all! This isn’t just *any* inspiration shoot though- there’s a little bit of a story to it: Some of you may know that I recently moved back to my hometown of Ocala, sometimes also known as the “Horse Capital of the World”. Needless to say, the Kentucky Derby is an event that is most certainly frequented, watched, and celebrated by just about everyone in this Central Florida town. So for the first official ELD inspiration shoot in my new city, it was quite fitting to do something that was not only gorgeous, but would give a nod to the culture of the town of Ocala too!

I asked my friend Emily of Emily Grace Design to help me plan and design this Kentucky Derby themed wedding inspiration since she and I grew up in Ocala together, and she knows the town just as well (if not better) than I do. Wanting to put a little bit of a twist on the typical Kentucky Derby wedding ideas that are out there, we chose a bright color palette and paired it with elements that were both eclectic and elegant. The end result was the perfect amount of “twist” on a normally traditional style. The amazing Shea Hopely Flowers created some of the most stunning florals I’ve ever seen, the details are amazing, and Caroline & Evan Photography captured everything perfectly! (PS: we even have a mint julep with a twist too, plus a recipe so you can make some for yourself this weekend!)

From Emily Grace Design:

There are so many reasons why we wanted to do a Kentucky Derby inspired shoot. The Kentucky Derby is an incredible event that is rich in tradition and exudes beauty, grace, and Southern charm. It’s hard not to be inspired by all the events and pure spectacle that surround this race from the parties, attire of the spectators, the delicious food and drinks, the bright spring colors, and the excitement and cheers from the crowd as the horses round the final turn and head towards the finish line.

The Kentucky Derby takes place every year on the first Saturday in May, and Ocala has great ties to horse racing and is often recognized as the training ground for many horses that race in the Derby. The property at Longwood Farm South was the perfect venue to capture the charm of the Derby with it’s rolling hills, long tree-lined drives, and horses galloping through the pastures.

Shea of Shea Hopely Flowers created gorgeous arrangements full of bright colored flowers including the race’s iconic rose. We chose to take a spin on the Run for the Roses, and ventured from the red roses and tied in a bright rich color palette of emerald green, mint, and peach . Elizabeth of Just Press Print brought in a mix of modern and vintage patterns and typography in the stationary suite with pinstripes and soft floral patterns to capture the modern era of this longstanding tradition of racing. Chef’s Garden Catering & Events created a beautiful spread of light bites and a twist on the traditional mint juleps with their peach infused mint julep. For dessert, we decided to focus on a few southern treats rather than a formal wedding cake by featured a one layer Spider Cake by Betty Cakes, a red velvet bunt cake, and Derby Pie.

I have to send a BIG thank you to our couple who modeled for us, Lindsey and Justin! These two are SO adorable and they rocked the modeling! And of course, a huge thank you to all of the vendors who came together to create this gorgeous inspiration for us! I still can’t get over all of the beauty!!

What I love most about this inspiration is that the details, florals, and design are SO gorgeous, and they don’t *have* to be translated as “Kentucky Derby” inspired- they would be perfect for all kinds of weddings!

So what do you think? Will you be using any of these stunning Kentucky Derby wedding ideas for your own wedding?

Wedding Planning Advice: Take Time To Enjoy via TheELD.com

“I am all about the experience of couples on their wedding day. It should not be a day overfilled to the rim with things to do every 15 minutes. I believe it should be a day to just have a great time, your way, and no one else’s way. Take lots of time to enjoy the process. Take time to just sit and relax. Take time away from the crowd, just you and your new husband.”

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Morgan and I did a lot of the planning ourselves and he built basically everything!! My in-laws played such a big role in helping us accomplish all our DIY projects!! I’m so grateful for them!!  I also used Pinterest to gather a lot of ideas!!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Well, I’m also a wedding photographer, so picking Katelyn as our photographer was super important to me! I treasure our images!  In addition, I absolutely love working with Renee from Blossom & Basket.  She took the vision I had and made it even more beautiful!! So grateful for her!!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

One of my favorite pieces was the dartboard!  That inspiration came from the movie Princess Diaries!  It was something I always wanted to try and so why not do it on our wedding day?!  Like I said before, I also got a lot of inspiration from Pinterest and then we just created the projects ourselves!!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about our wedding was definitely the people!  As beautiful as the day was and as hard as we all worked on the details of the day, our wedding wouldn’t have been the same without our loving family and friends!!

Rustic & Eclectic Backyard Maryland Wedding via TheELD.com Rustic & Eclectic Backyard Maryland Wedding via TheELD.com Rustic & Eclectic Backyard Maryland Wedding via TheELD.comRustic & Eclectic Backyard Maryland Wedding via TheELD.com Rustic & Eclectic Backyard Maryland Wedding via TheELD.comRustic & Eclectic Backyard Maryland Wedding via TheELD.com

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My advice is to not sweat the small stuff!  In almost any wedding day something will go slightly wrong- for us it was so windy that everything was getting blown off the table and we had to put sides up on our tent!  The thing is that at the end of the day, as long as you’re married to your best friend, that’s all that matters!!  Keep that in mind whenever you’re stressing out about anything else!!

Oh my goodness- did you see the exit with giant marshmallows?! That is SO fun!! And the giant dartboard of balloons filled with paint- GENIUS!

Are you doing any unique details like Lauren did for her wedding? What will you be doing?
