I am loving this classic pink and aqua wedding with a bit of an eclectic feel! Jenn and Carr really made sure their personalities were well represented, and Susie Linquist Photography captured every moment of this lovely wedding perfectly. Jenn is here with us today sharing about her wedding planning experience…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I did a lot of the planning myself, but did enlist the help of wedding planners, Kate Mathis and Courtney Stone of Kickstand Events.  They were very valuable when it came to managing a planning timeline, designing beautiful arrangements, creating those little extra touches, and pulling together a final cohesive design! I had so many varied ideas and they really helped me narrow down what exactly I wanted and steered me in a direction so that each piece flowed with the next, creating a cohesive design. Without them my wedding had the potential to be all over the place, but their expertise really helped melt the many ideas I had together. I was never the type of girl to have a “dream wedding”, but this turned out to be exactly what I had always wanted but didn’t know I wanted.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

It was important to have vendors with quality reputations, similar artistic styles as me, and notable experience at an affordable price.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

A lot of my guests were coming from out of town and we wanted them to love our home town as much as we did, so we really focused on the idea of a “Wedding and More”, (cue our save the date video) but we also added in special touches that reflected us as a couple, like the fact that at the time we were both teachers (pencils for seating cards, crossword puzzles, special treats for the kids table like a scavenger photo hunt, and activity booklet).  The color scheme we like to say was inspired by the colors you can find when looking at a bubble; with blues, yellows, and pinks. But the main color, aqua turquoise blue, was the first color chosen because it is my favorite color on my husband, as it really makes his beautiful eyes pop and I really wanted his tie to be that color.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

That is tough to pin down, because I loved it all!  I loved that I was able to get every last detail I wanted! Starting with the Save the Dates, out of town guest packets, bridal party gifts and ending with the French Toast and Farewell Brunch the next morning!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I would say, print out your must get photos and enlist one of your bridesmaids to ensure that the photographer gets it.  I missed a lot of photos I wanted.  I know everyone says this, but it goes by so fast, and you easily forget to stop and pose, so having a list and a friend to help remind you and to even “organize” it would have been very helpful as the photographer doesn’t know who your Aunt is versus that friend of your moms she insisted you invite!  This is especially true for the photos right after the ceremony, I hated having the responsibility of organizing people for the family pictures, because no one would listen and I hated having to act so authoritative to get the photos done quickly. It was tough to rounded everyone up without anyone else’s help and with the dwindling day light it was very stressful.

Also, don’t worry about eating during your wedding….I spent too much time sitting down and eating that I never got to visit every table to give them a thank you and I really wish I had been able to do that. Eat it quick and start making your rounds!

Finally, if you have an outdoor wedding, hair up! I made the mistake of having my hair down, and with even the little bit of wind, my hair was everywhere and by the time the ceremony was over, it was a big rats nest and not pretty for the photos!

Jenn has some excellent advice to share- make sure you read it all!

I love the pink and aqua together! Paired with a classic style, it makes for a gorgeous wedding, don’t you think?

Whimsical and urban are two adjectives you don’t see paired together too often, but MaryBeth and Houston’s Chicago wedding combined the two styles perfectly and I’m loving it! Wanting a wedding filled with all of the things they loved, there were no rules or constraints involved in creating their wedding- if they liked it, then they included it in their wedding! From Texas-inspired food and music, to a chic plum and blush color palette, the end result was simply amazing… and Artistrie Co. captured everything beautifully! MaryBeth is here with us today sharing all about her wedding planning experience:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My husband! He helped every step of the way, and probably made more of the decisions than I did! Most people are surprised to hear that, but because our work schedules are so hectic, we made sure it was a team effort! Thankfully for me, he has great style:) We also had day-of coordinators that were fantastic. Their company name is C1 Revolution. I can’t say enough about them!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We were looking for someone who understood our vision and supported our unique style. We ditched a lot of the traditional elements, so it was important for us to have people who ‘got us’. We also wanted someone who was organized, someone who would think of EVERYTHING, and that’s what we found with C1 Revolution. They made all of stresses disappear!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I wouldn’t say we had one inspiration, and that’s what I loved about our wedding! If we liked it, we included it! I love Chicago so our venue was very urban, but my husband is from Texas so a lot of our food and music reflected that. Despite our urban setting, we still had victorian furniture and lace table clothes, yet our invites were considered ‘indie’ or ‘hipster’. Like I mentioned before, if we loved it we included it! All of our faves under one roof. (We did the Texas two step to a Group Love song for our first dance, that sums it up perfectly!)

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Ahhh, how do I choose? Two of our good friends from LA played/sang during our cocktail hour on the rooftop (with views of the entire Chicago skyline)! We love these friends to the moon and back, so them playing for us was really special. It added a personal touch and they rocked it!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I was given a lot of advice from friends and family, but most of it could be summed up with these two lines, ‘make sure you enjoy it, it goes by fast’ or ‘you’re not going to please everyone, so don’t try’. While all of this is true, the best piece of advice I got from a friend was “Don’t HOST your wedding, ATTEND your wedding’. You are not there to work. Sure, you want everything to go perfect, but let’s be real, it’s not going to be perfect (ok, it will be perfect, just not what your definition of ‘perfect’ is before the big day). When you’re ATTENDING a party are you worried about putting out the dip and making sure everyone’s having a good time? No, and you shouldn’t be at your wedding either. You have hired professionals to do their job, let them take care of it. Enjoy all of your hard work and ATTEND (not host!) the best party of the year! Like they say, it goes by fast!

Oh my goodness- MaryBeth’s advice to ATTEND your wedding (and not just host it) is so great! This is why you hire professionals my friends- so you can attend and enjoy your wedding!

I love how this couple included what they loved most, and that’s how their wedding design came about. Are any of you doing something similar, and being inspired entirely by what you love? I’d love to hear more!
