So perfectly classic and elegant! And how amazing is the escort card display, reminiscent of lift tickets? So cool, and such a great way to incorporate the couple’s favorite activity!

How are you planning on incorporating you and your future spouse’s favorite activity? In a detail like escort cards, or something else?

Karol and Mark’s gorgeous Maine wedding day incorporated soft shades of blush and sage in with a unique blend of rustic and modern elements. A destination wedding for this New York couple, Mark grew up spending his summers in Maine, and he and Karol knew that it was the perfect place for them to be wed. Lucky for us, Kivalo Photography captured the day, it’s moments, and the details perfectly, and Karol is here with us today sharing all about her planning experience and wedding details!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My husband was incredibly involved in all aspects of making the wedding of my dreams happen. Without his hands on help on DIY projects or secretarial duties reaching out to vendors and scheduling appointments things would have been a whole lot more hectic for me. Not to mention 10 hour plus round trip road trips that he drove end to end in the same day without a problem every other week from NYC/NJ to Maine.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We attempted to do all if not most of it ourselves until we reached a point where we were trying to figure out how many cups plates and utensils for a reception of our size. At that point the most important thing we did was LET GO. Let go of some of the control and responsibility to someone who could handle it(whatever that aspect may be) and who was a professional at it. But, most importantly let go only to someone who is able to put your mind at ease. Ultimately we let go and it was the best decision we made letting our caterer take over these responsibilities.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

My husband spent most of his young summers in Maine from age 10 on with a host family through an amazing program called the Fresh Air Fund. He has always been inspired by Maine as a result and during a trip we took together earlier in our relationship (before we were engaged) we agreed this would be where we’d get married. The goal was to give our families a taste of the rustic natural beauty of Maine with a clean almost minimalistic modern feel. Barn weddings are easy to over do the barn part so we paid careful attention to balance that with some of the modern city style we are used to.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

It’s hard to nail down one specific thing because each phase of the wedding day had its own charm and wow factor. However in the end there was a moment where both my husband and I looked across the barn at all the smiling happy loved ones and then out the barn doors to the night sky and agreed this was the perfect moment. Seeing these people celebrate and laugh and dance in a setting that many of them were unfamiliar with showed us that we nailed it. We gave them a unique experience that would last a lifetime in their memories as well as ours.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Enjoy the moments throughout the day, it will go fast! And regardless of what happens or goes wrong don’t let it prevent you from enjoying it. You out in the best you could up to that point so enjoy your masterpiece even if it’s not perfection. Accept that it may be perfectly imperfect.

I love this Maine setting, don’t you? And the mix of rustic with modern is great- a perfect blend for this couple!

So tell me- have you considered a destination wedding? Are you having one yourself? Where would you get married if you were (or are) doing a destination wedding?

Wedding Planning Advice: Hiring A Planner Is A Tremendous Help! via TheELD.com

“Take a deep breath! Enjoy your engagement & live in the moment. Too many times I work with couple’s who fire off 100 emails right away and it becomes overwhelming to keep track of everyone. I know I am biased here, but hiring a planner is a tremendous help. Planners can be as involved as YOU want them to be. We can guide you along the way so you can truly enjoy your engagement, recommend vendors who match your style, and really bring your vision to life.”

Typically when you hear “nautical wedding” you think of the usual- navy and white stripes and boats- but this gorgeously romantic wedding from Dairing Events is unlike any other I’ve seen. Inspired by their love for everything about the water and Florida, Whitney and Nicolai incorporated nautical details in unique ways that reflected them perfectly, and Brooke Images captured it all beautifully! Whitney is here with us today sharing more about her gorgeous day- I can’t wait for you to see it all!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Two people were instrumental in creating my dream wedding, my sister Cassidy and my wedding planner Adair Currie. Cassidy was my day-to-day decision maker. She was able to help me see the “big picture” of my wedding when I struggled to see it myself. Adair took care of helping me with the big pieces for the wedding. Having a wedding planner saved me from making my family set up everything and take it down. Adair knew my vision and was able to carry it out without batting an eyelash.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

When Nicolai and I were deciding on vendors, we met with them and tried to get to know them a little more personally. We went with the vendors that felt like friends and family. It worked out well because we really loved our vendors and many of them are beginning to feel like just that -family.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Nicolai and I live our life on the water. We wanted something that was classy, clean, and nautical. Our venue was most important because we wanted to showcase the Florida aspects we love -the water, the oak trees, and the sun. After we picked out our venue I quickly picked out the bridesmaids dresses (Lilly Pulitzer) and our groomsmen suits (JCrew). Between the venue and the attire we narrowed down our ideal wedding design.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

It is so hard to choose a favorite! I LOVE my broach bouquet! At every wedding and bridal shower I had, the attendees brought a gold broach. It was so special because it made me feel like I had so much love and support going down the aisle with me. I also loved doing a first touch with my husband. I remember being so nervous; I kept pacing and crying but as soon as he touched me I became overwhelmed with the sense of love he has for me. In this moment, Nicolai said a prayer, held my hand, and told me how he couldn’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together. This was such a precious moment for me. I will never forget that moment.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Make it personal. We tried to showcase little touches that really described our relationship. We used different species of Florida fish for our table numbers because we love to fish together. Unfortunately, our grandparents on both sides had passed away but what was so wonderful was that no one in our families have divorced. Instead of doing a memory table we did a Legacy of Love table that included photos from all of our grandparents and both sets of parents on their wedding days. Another thing we did to make it personal was picking out local craft beer to serve at the wedding. Both my husband and I enjoy the local Jacksonville breweries so we made sure to share our favorites with our guests.

I definitely love Whitney’s recommendations for making things personal! It’s my favorite thing about weddings- the fact that details can truly tell the story of your relationship if you let them! I think my favorite detail from this wedding might be the oars at the ceremony… although the fish as table names comes in a close second!

So how about you- what details are you incorporating that are personal to you and your future spouse? I’d love to hear!
