We talk about wedding budgets a lot here on ELD. Anywhere from what to expect to pay for things, to creating your wedding budget. But one thing that we haven’t touched on lately is something that is REALLY important when it comes to wedding budget and working with wedding professionals- defining what “on a budget” means!

Define What On A Budget Means via TheELD.com

I hear it all the time, and unfortunately the term “on a budget” just doesn’t provide enough information. Case in point, some of the following dubious “on a budget” phrases that are commonly heard by myself and many others…

“Well we’re of course on a budget, and we would like to know your pricing.”

“We’re on a budget, so clearly we would like your best prices.”

“What is your pricing? We’re on a budget.”

“I’m on a budget, so I can’t have XYZ for my wedding.”

Friends! Essentially, everyone planning their wedding is on a budget. Even weddings by Preston Bailey have budgets… it’s just part of planning a wedding.

So instead of using the common and all-encompassing phrase of “on a budget”, I challenge (or beg) you to define what “on a budget” means for you and your wedding.

Why should you define “on a budget”?

In the wedding world, a budget is viewed as an amount that you have put in place for spending on your wedding.

In general life, the term “on a budget” tends to be associated with a lesser amount that has been set aside for spending.

Do you see the potential disconnect in using this phrase?

Most wedding professionals are going to expect you to have a budget because paying for things is kind of an important aspect of hosting an event. So when you tell a potential wedding vendor that you’re “on a budget”, it’s not telling them much… they basically think, “Well yeah, I’d hope you’re on a budget!”

Any one wedding vendor could have worked with couples who had budgets of $20,000, $45,000, $100,000 and on- and all of those couples were “on a budget”! So they really can’t know what you mean when you say “on a budget” unless you get more specific. You don’t have to tell them the exact number, but at least tell them what range you’re in or what you’re budgeting for their specific “category”. Communicating this information will be incredibly beneficial to both you and the potential wedding vendor!

So just remember- if you want to tell potential vendors that you’re “on a budget”, be sure to define it for them. Trust me, it will only help you! And if anything, it will eliminate that extra email of them asking what your budget is so they can give you accurate pricing and you can check another box off your list of To Dos. :)

I’m curious- how would you define your “on a budget” phrase? Share your definition in the comments! :)

We are dreaming in blue thanks to this romantic, organic wedding inspiration! This modern Fine Art design started with a design that had small pops of blue, integrating beautifully with a clean, fine art look. Take a look at all the details that were so gorgeously captured by Ashley Cook Photography, and then be sure to read all that planner Bridal Bliss Event Planning shared about the design!

“We started with a design board that had small pops of blue but stuck with our clean, fine art look. Each vendor came onsite with the perfect touch of blue, clean, and the BEST touch of simplicity for an organic wedding! Classic Vintage Rentals had the perfect dreamy white farm table; when we first laid eyes on it that thing – it was a done deal! From the start we knew Classic Vintage Rentals had absolutely everything we needed and more. The chairs set the tone perfectly and the silky runner was the cherry on top. When it came to florals we wanted something unique, loose and simple! Ali Briskey Designs brought our vision to life with the loose delicate center piece, which acted as the focal point for our table. The more we played around styling the table the more we loved the clean, delicate table set up. Ali started putting out the small dishes of florals and the entire table came to life. Seeds of Clay exceeded all of our expectations with the acrylic menus and watercolored escort cards. Their calligraphy is phenomenal and went along perfectly with the knotted napkins and modern flatware.”

Robert and Summerlyn’s vintage, boho inspired Pensacola wedding was absolutely beautiful, and filled with personal touches all throughout. Their shared love for travel was incorporated into details of the day perfectly- including a globe for guests to sign! A color palette featuring shades of red and blush provided just the right amount of romance and character for the oceanside wedding, and we love the way that Indie Pearl Photography captured this gorgeous day.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding (your vision, color, style, and location choices).

My first love is the ocean so I have always known I wanted to get married on the beach. Robert and I love the Gulf coast of Florida and we wanted our guests to have a great time so we chose the Margaritaville Beach Hotel in Pensacola Beach, FL. That beach is so gorgeous with its white sand and clear blue water! So we had a beach party the day before the wedding and that was so much fun! We wanted it to be somewhat intimate so we had about 100 guests total. It was a fall wedding so I wanted to utilize fall colors and my vintage style in with a coastal theme.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

The most important thing for us was our Christian beliefs and we wanted our ceremony to convey that so we decided to wash each others feet during the ceremony as an act of service to each other.

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

I hand painted the signs with the Bible verses on them which I used to decorate the aisle with. I also made the fan programs with my friends help. There were lots of little things here and there I made to help decorate the reception.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Don’t lose sight of the big picture. It’s easy to get caught up it details of wedding planning but don’t let little things get to you if they don’t go exactly as planned. Remember the important thing is you’re marrying your best friend and that’s all that matters in the end!

When Michaels asked me to partner with them to create a project using their products in celebration of their new DIY wedding destination, MichaelsWeddings.com, I immediately knew what I wanted to do – an escort card display! And not just any escort cards, ones that would be elegant, have a bit of personalization, and serve a dual purpose. So I decided to create wax seal escort cards that could double as bookmarks (hello guest favor!), and an escort card display frame to go along with them! Being that we’re all about details at Every Last Detail, escort cards that double as favors were the way to go!

Step 1: Prepare and print your documents containing your escort cards. We recommend using Cardstock by Recollections. We also recommend using Word and changing the document settings to: Landscape, 3 columns custom sized to 3.5 inches, and Left and Right margins of .25”. (Note: When printing you will be told that your margins are outside of print- you are okay to proceed with printing.)

Step 2: Using a paper cutter, cut 1/4” off of the left and right sides of the paper. Then cut your escort cards to sizes of 3.5 inches wide.

Step 3: Using the We R™ Banner Punch Board, place your escort card in the position for the banner cut, lining up with the corresponding lines for 3.5 inches, and make your cuts.

Step 4: Cut ribbon to lengths of 5” long. Ribbons are to be used to hang as well as to indicate meal preference, so be sure to have the correct number of ribbons to correspond to guest meal selections.

Step 5: Once ribbons are cut, fold them end-to-end, forming a loop at the top. We recommend using a thin glue dot for the ribbon loops. Adhere the ribbon loop to the top portion of the escort card, being sure to match guests’ cards with their correct color ribbon.

Step 6: Light a candle in preparation for wax stamps. This process will go a little faster if you have two people- one to do the wax, and one to stamp. Light the wick end of your wax stick, and while holding the stick, slowly turn the stick clockwise and counter-clockwise to warm the wax. Continue this movement as you drip the wax on the bottom portion of the ribbon loop. Create a circle of wax, completely covering the ends of the ribbon. Let the wax cool for a few seconds, and place your stamp. Repeat for each card.

Step 7: Prepare the items for your escort board. Make sure to alphabetize the escort cards by name!

Step 8: Cut the cork to size of your frame. Adhere the cork to the frame back insert with hot glue.

Step 9: Lay your fabric piece out (ironed to remove creases!), and place the cork side of the frame back down on top of the fabric. Trim the fabric to fit, leaving 1-2 inches on all sides. Pull fabric taut and wrap the fabric around the edges of the frame back. Adhere with hot glue. (Tip: To aid in the wrapping of the corners, you may need to cut the corners of the fabric.) Insert the fabric-and-cork-covered back into the frame.

Step 10: Put your escort cards in alphabetical order. Hang the cards from the escort board using pins.
