Changing your last name. This is a very common discussion among brides as they get closer to their weddings. You have to decide if you’re going to “take” your husband’s name. If you decide to change your name, there are many different ways to chang your name. You can hyphenate (which I’ve heard makes signing things pretty annoying), you can completely change your last name to your new husband’s, or you can change your maiden name to your middle name. I personally changed my maiden name to my middle name, and took my husband’s last name as my new last name. I wanted to keep some sort of link to my family, because I love them, but I also wanted to create our own “family” with my husband. So I totally changed my name. But let me tell you- it was a process. I still don’t even have some credit cards and meaningless accounts changed.

When I changed my name, it took me a while. First, I had to research where I had to go and what I had to do. Then I had to find the time to go to the Social Security office, which took about a month. Once I went there, it was pretty much a day-long excursion, so then the following week I had to take a trip to the DMV. It was crazy. I will tell you one thing though. If I had known about something like Name Change Express, I would have totally used it!

If you’ve read {ELD} for a a while, you know that I’m all about saving time. Name Change Express is exactly what you need to help you save time when it comes to changing your name. They give you instructions on what needs to be done to change your name. (And believe me- despite what you think, it’s not easy to find instructions online.) Name Change Express provides you with addresses and forms you need.  A cool thing about Name Change Express is that they are the only name change service that provides company-specific name change requirements for 100’s of companies across the U.S. (companies like Citibank, American Express, Geico, United Airlines, etc).  Brides who purchase the $30 service know exactly what these companies require to process their name, where they have to mail notification letters, and what documents must be included. Brilliant!

Trust me, you think changing your name will be a piece of cake, but there is a lot to it. You should definitely use Name Change Express to help you out with changing your name. And then you can use the time that you’ve saved to go have dinner with your new husband!

This North Carolina wedding from Ashley Brockinton is awesome. First, I want to tell you about Ashley and Sam. They’re actually the first photographers that I met upon “diving” into the wedding industry. They are the sweetest, most genuine people, they have the cutest little girls, and their photography is amazing, which is definitely a plus. :) And, they have the coolest little intro video on their blog that you just HAVE to see!

So now, on to the wedding. After consulting with the handy {ELD} Wedding Style Dictionary, I’ve come to the conclusion that the style of this wedding is definitely dapper (spruce and stylish- I bet you didn’t know exactly what dapper meant!) garden (of, relating to, used in, or frequenting a garden). This wedding has some great DIY details… including some things that I’ve never seen before, like the way the escort cards/favors were set up. The color palette, yellow and navy, is an example of how the two colors can be used together in a “nonpreppy” way, which is beautiful. And so, here it is…

I love the simplicity of this wedding, how it’s still absolutely gorgeous, and the overall feeling and emotion that comes from the photos. I love that! Oh, and the mountains in the backgrounds of some of the photographs. Breathtaking! (Not something we see a lot of here in Florida!) Thanks for sharing your amazing work Ashley and Sam!!

Today’s inspiration board is a color palette of blue and gold. An {ELD} reader emailed me asking for ideas and inspiration for her Nova Scotia wedding with this color palette. I chose to go with lighter blue tones for this board, which would be perfect for a spring or summer wedding. A darker hue of blue paired with gold would make for a great fall or winter wedding.

Combining blue and gold together gives you a modern flair with classic elegance. Gold paired with crystals and blue accents will make for a more elegant wedding, whereas using blue as a primary color and gold as an accent will give you a more modern feel.

Row 2: Invitation, Bride and bridesmaids

Row 3: Gold bouquet, Hanging crystal escort cards, Blue and gold cake

I usually don’t care much for gold, but recently it’s been growing on me! I definitely think we’ll be seeing more gold in the coming year. Are any of you using gold in your wedding?

Yes, Google is probably everyone’s absolute number one resource when it comes to planning a wedding. But it’s about to become a lot more helpful! Everyone knows that Google is so much more than just a search engine. They’re constantly adding new user-friendly programs and applications, and their most recent one is going to make planning your wedding much easier!

Google has recently teamed up with Style Me Pretty and launched a slew of great Google Docs Templates just for wedding planning! By using Google Docs, you can input information into templates online, share the documents with others, and even make changes to the templates. All of the templates also come with tips and advice from Abby and planner Michelle Rago. They’re great templates to help with the organization of your wedding, and I HIGHLY recommend them!
