What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Our parents, family and friends were amazing! My sister got married 2 years ago, and she was such a great person to have next to me at all times. She was able to give me some amazing tips for our big day, but also kept me calm during my long distance planning! I was living in the Caribbean at the time and my mom, mother in law, and sister did a lot of the extra work for us in Orlando!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

My husband and I had a idea of what we wanted our wedding day to look and feel like, so we wanted to make sure our vendors all understood what we were looking for. We were very specific about the look and feel for our wedding day and all of our vendors did a great job! Be as specific as you can be when explaining what you would like from your vendors.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

Our great photographers offered to do our engagement pictures for us since we had brought so many friends and family to their business! It was a great way to get to know our photographers and get comfortable in front of the camera, not to mention we have great engagement photos to last forever!Ā

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite part of the wedding was surprising my husband with his favorite food, McDonalds Big Mac’s! We had 100 Big Mac’s brought in as his surprise grooms cake. He was shocked and all of the guest loved snacking on a Big Mac at the end of the night!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

1. Use your resources! There were so many of my friends who had just gotten married, so I was able to ask all of my girlfriends what they would have done differently, added or skipped on. Finding out for example that I didn’t need to have too many flowers for the head table since I had 10 bridesmaids who set their bouquets in vases of water on the tables really saved me a lot of money and made it look great!

2. On the wedding day take it all in! I will always remember the moments with my dad right before I walked down the isle to see Tyler :) It was a moment I will always keep with me. Just breathe and take a step back and Enjoy all of your hard work, you deserve it!

Thank you so much for sharing your wedding day with us Kara! And a big huge thank you to the always-amazing Meg Baisden Photography for capturing Kara’s wedding so gorgeously!

Love that she changed her hairstyle for before the reception! Beautiful! And um, so how AWESOME is it that they brought McDonald’s in as the “groom’s cake”?! I had to show my husband that- let’s just say he’s disappointed I didn’t think of that 3 years ago. ;) Oh, and the cupcake truck too?! I definitely wish I had been a guest at this wedding! And let’s just say that all this food goodness is NOT boding well for the diet that I’m currently on!

What do you all think of the treats they had? Are any of you planning on having some treats like this for your own wedding?

How about a little inspiration for this lovely Tuesday? Stephanie A Smith Photography sent over this adorable little pink vintage inspiration shoot for me to share with you. The shoot was completely inspired by her great grandmother’s china, which is absolutely beautiful- and of course, vintage. It’s simple, delicate, dainty, and just absolutely gorgeous!

She got some gorgeous shots, right?! That field is just so gorgeous! I also wanted to share with you all what Stephanie had to say about her inspiration, because it’s just so sweet and beautiful…

I’m not girlie. I don’t like to wear dresses, or curl my hair. And the idea of makeup makes me cringe. Sometimes I stare at my beautiful, very put together grandmother and mother and wonder how I am the descendent offspring. Yet alas, there was a glimmer of hope for me as I gazed into my mom’s china cupboard and fell head over heels for these delicate pink and white teacups. They were so dainty, so fragile, so beautiful. As I pulled out the pieces, one by one, I wanted to know their story. Where they came from, what they were used for. It turns out they belonged to my great grandmother, Ruth Hoffman. Ruth was a classy woman with exquisite taste. She loved to hold tea parties and Holidays at her home so that she could set the Foley China onto the lace table setting. I’m told she had quite the artistic eye and loved to create floral centerpieces and table settings of the utmost lavishness. However, being a married woman in the 1920’s meant that tending to the home and family took precedence over your passions. Meaning the only possible creative outlet Ruth had was with her table settings. As my grandmother {Ruth’s daughter} finished telling me about her mother I became inspired. I wanted to take these heirlooms and create an arrangement of my own. Something that not only expressed me but also paid homage to the generations before. Something tells me that if my great grandmother were here today she would look at this creation and be very proud of me :)

Ā Isn’t that so incredibly touching? Not to mention inspiration too- it’s always so meaningful when you can incorporate vintage elements into your wedding design that mean something to you. Something like the china that Stephanie used would be the perfect way to do that!

Are any of you using vintage elements in your wedding that mean something to you?

Well, I’m quite excited to introduce you all to this week’s Vendor of the Week… It’s A Shore Thing! I must say, their name is quite fitting- these lovely wedding planners are located in the Florida panhandle. The dynamic duo of It’s A Shore Thing is also known as “The Jenns” (yes, both of their names are Jenn), and they have planned some fabulous weddings- some of which have even been featured here on ELD! These two girls are also just as fabulous as the weddings they plan- you should definitely get to know them a bit more…

Vendor of the Week: Its A Shore Thing via TheELD.com

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

There’s nothing more exciting or enticing to us than putting a personal twist on a new trend! We take a bride’s compilation of ideas … and we ā€œshake ā€˜em upā€ and transform them from an inspiration to an exceptional event! We’re like chameleons – we adapt ourselves to fit the bride’s style.

Vendor of the Week: Its A Shore Thing via TheELD.com

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

We really get to know our clients – and some of their ā€œguilty pleasuresā€ – in order to make the event totally ā€œthemā€. We recently learned of our bride’s most guilty pleasure being Dunkin’ Donuts coffee {ā€œiced, no whip!ā€}, and, of course, donuts. We convinced the groom to surprise his bride with her very own Dunkin’ Donuts Self-Serve Coffee Bar {complete with the orange & pink DD branding!} at their reception: 2 single-serve coffee machines, plenty of ā€œadult-coffee-accoutrementsā€, DD cups, and, last but certainly not least, a whole sea of DD ā€˜Munchkins’ for guests to nosh on and enjoy later in the evening. It was a HUGE hit and so fun!

Vendor of the Week: Its A Shore Thing via TheELD.com

What is your favorite store or brand?

Well …. When it really comes down to it, we have what some may consider ā€œa bit of a shopping problemā€ … So, that’s a bit of a loaded question – but one we’re always happy to answer over coffee, at Starbucks {conveniently located in the mall!}. The good news is that we’re ALWAYS on the up-and-up with the latest trends! :)

What advice do you have for a newly engaged bride?

Ok, :::donning our serious, business hats::: Hire a reputable wedding planner that you trust! Of course we’re somewhat biased, but it really will save you so much time, energy, stress {and, believe it or not, even money in many cases} in the end. By hiring a planner who’s experienced in the industry, and that has strong relationships with other wedding professionals in the area – you’re essentially securing peace of mind that: a) all of the ā€œbehind-the-scenesā€ details are being handled on your behalf; b) your team has been put together based on your needs; and, c) you’ll truly be able to enjoy and remember your wedding day! We take ownership and live up to our promise to the bride to ā€œBe a guest at your own wedding.ā€

Vendor of the Week: Its A Shore Thing via TheELD.com

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

Hands down, the actual day itself. Within about eight hours time, all 240+ hours of planning come together – the transformation from ā€œinspiration to right-before-your-eyes actualityā€ is immensely rewarding. Witnessing a bride who’s undoubtedly enjoying – rather than directing – her day is not only the service we promise, but the service we deliver. {We’re kinda like superheroes in that regard.} ;)

Vendor of the Week: Its A Shore Thing via TheELD.com

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

As a team, the Dynamic Jen duo {note the superhero reference}, work together and bounce ideas off one another to create amazing events.

Terms used to describe The Jens include, but are not limited to:

Organized {our wedding day itinerary keeps it all together}
Loving, but firm {we crack the whip upon request}
FUN {no, really, we’re fun}
Creative {think outside the box!}
Dependable {we WILL get it done}
Attentive {you talk, we listen … then we make it happen}
Calming {we have an innate ability to de-stress a situation}
Bubbly {but not ditzy}

Vendor of the Week: Its A Shore Thing via TheELD.com

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

Cross-referencing between our team of wedding professionals, and keeping organized and abreast of every detail has earned us our reputation for creating flawless events. The rest – well, that’s top-secret information. ;)

Happy Monday everyone! Today’s wedding from Mark Dickinson Photography is not only filled with vintage elegant details, but it has a gorgeous color palette of pink, purple and white too! The beautiful bride, Jillian, is sharing a little about her wedding planning journey and she has some great advice, so let’s get started!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

What helped me through my wedding process was the knot.com! During my wedding process I had just moved and was away from family, friends, and my husband so it was my only helper. And then of course my wonderful wedding planner Lindsay Dickinson. Could not of done it without her!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Since it was a destination wedding I really had no idea on vendors and such. So the most important thing for me was to work with vendors that had worked with my wedding planner so I chose ones that trusted each other and worked together.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

Well Lindsay really went up and beyond for us. She packed up food and sweets from the wedding for us to have in the cottage. And she decorated our room for the wedding night in the cottage.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing was just the “feel” of the day. The energy, beautiful soft flowers, and all the elegant touches. I still look though all the pictures of the day every chance I can get.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Ā RELAX! It was so amazing just taking it all in, not worrying about all the details. That’s why the wedding planners are there!Ā

Well that’s some FAB advice- I most definitely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your wedding with us Jillian! And thank you to Mark Dickinson Photography for capturing all of it beautifully!

I just love it when centerpieces are a combination of different elements, don’t you? It’s simple, yet still absolutely gorgeous! So how about you all… did anything from this vintage, elegant wedding strike your fancy? :)
