I always love those rustic, intimate weddings, especially when the couple makes their venue feel comfortable and personal- so much that it almost feels like home. That’s really the feeling I get from this next wedding by Elaine Palladino, where the couple even used family photos and mementos as decor. What a sweet way to celebrate the day!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

From the bride…

I was very lucky to have the support of Nick every step of the way.  Nick and I never bought into the idea that the groom is just a prop that shows up on the wedding day.  We worked well together, making some decisions together and some separately.  For example, we decided on the venue, caterer, and photographer together, but Nick found the DJ and I picked the florist.  We supported each other with each decision and kept in mind that nothing was more important than our love and happiness.  I also had a lot of help from my family.  My mom made a lot of the decorations and coordinated all the personal touches.  We relied on the help of our families for all of the wedding day details.

From the groom…

I agree completely with Alicia. Alicia and I worked together while planning the wedding and I could not have imagined either of us doing this alone. I also believe the unwilling help from our friends to take care of all the little tasks (ie. picking up from the airport, supplying a comfortable bed to stay, transportation to wedding events) was a huge help. Alicia and I are so very fortunate to have loving and caring friends.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

From the bride…

We always met with several different vendors before making a decision.  This helped us to get an idea of what was out there and to narrow down exactly what we were looking for.  When we were ready to make a decision, our top priority was the quality of the service provided.  We didn’t want to settle and pay for something that we didn’t want.  We didn’t always pick the cheapest vendors, but we were able to stick within our budget.  We listened to ourselves and to each other, and were very happy with how everything turned out.

From the groom…

We were also looking for personality and passion. I guess you can always tell when someone is just “saying” the words. Always listen to yourself first.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

From the bride…

While I was inspired by pictures in magazines and on-line, we didn’t get too caught up in the details.  Our motivation was to bring our families together and provide a comfortable space conducive to celebration and meaningful conversation.  Therefore, the details were just a backdrop designed to put our guests at ease and to spark conversation.  We decorated with familiar items and with a lot of photographs because we wanted to celebrate our family and friends as much as they were celebrating us, because they are a part of us.

From the groom…

The love of our family and friends.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

From the bride…

It’s hard to pick just one thing!  I think my favorite thing was looking around and seeing all our friends and family in one place, smiling, talking, and having a good time.  It was nice to see all our details in place, and to be married, but it was even better to enjoy that special time with our guests.  The time went by fast.  I was happy that all our work and planning paid off – the pay off was that we all had a great night!

 From the groom…

Reading my vows to Alicia and saying “I do”…..that one’s easy.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

From the bride…

Three things:

  1. Decide early on what your priorities are, and keep reminding yourselves of it.
  2. Don’t try and do everything yourself.  Delegate and communicate clearly what you want, and trust the people around you (vendors, family, friends).
  3. I can’t say enough to enjoy the process.  You can have a wedding a million different ways, so do what you want to do and don’t do what you don’t want to do.  We could have saved a lot of time and money by eloping, but there was something really special about planning this wedding for our guests, just the way we wanted, and having them all come together to support us.  I’ll never forget how good it felt.

From the groom…

Get involved….it’s your wedding too.

It always makes me SO happy to hear that a groom is interested in the wedding planning process! This last piece of advice, to get involved in your wedding, is really one of the most important things. You can really tell that both of them had a hand in their planning, don’t you think?

Happy Monday everyone! We’re starting this week off with a yellow and gray wedding filled with rustic elements, and photographed by heido-o-photo! Yellow and gray is one of my all-time favorite color combinations, and while commonly thought to be modern, I love seeing it done with a rustic style! The bride, Kelly, will be sharing more about her wedding day with us, so enjoy!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

This would be my mom.  She was completely involved in the planning.  My husband and I worked on DIY projects with her and she provided us with our “wedding room,” the place where all things wedding was stored!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We wanted to make sure that our vision was made a reality.  My mom and I are very similar and have similar tastes so I knew she would be able to help us execute the vision we had when we thought about our dream wedding.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Our inspiration came from antique blue glass Ball Jars that we salvaged from Alan’s grandparents’ house while it was being renovated by a new owner.  We also knew that we wanted Gerber Daisies and from that we found our color scheme and all the unique touches we had.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I would have to say just being surrounded by our friends and family and having a blast dancing all night celebrating our marriage.  The wedding turned out better than either of us could have imagined.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

To just have fun with the planning process.  Don’t stress about the small details because no one is going to notice anyway!  Let other people do things for you, don’t feel like you need to be involved in all the decision making, especially minor things like where to put the cake.  And, work with your future hubby- don’t forget it’s his day too so let him help!

Aw, I love her advice! There seem to be more and more grooms getting more involved with wedding planning- and I absolutely love it! :) Brides, are any of you involving your significant others in the wedding planning? How’s it going?

Oh, y’all! This gorgeous wedding from Sarah Kathleen has so, so much goodness. The yummy afternoon light and breathtaking locale makes me want to hop a plane and head for the California wine country. I’ll bet it will have you California Dreamin’, too!

From the bride, Tammy:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Definitely my mom and my Aunt Nanette. They were with me at every vendor meeting, tasting, dress fitting, etc., and even helped me with all the DIY projects! My aunt even made our beautiful wedding cake and cupcakes! Also my wedding planner Simone Lennon, who went way above and beyond her call of duty. I couldn’t imagine planning our wedding without these three ladies.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Definitely personality. I wanted a team of relaxed go-with-the-flow individuals I felt a personal connection to and who would allow me to feel at ease on my wedding day and not stress me out. My photographer, planner, venue contact, and hair & makeup team were all girls I could see myself being friends with and after the wedding that’s exactly what happened! I still talk to and hang out with many of these wonderful woman!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We were originally getting marred in a french winery so I really wanted to create a rustic french feel, however when that venue canceled on us 8 weeks before and we found a new location I changed it up a bit. I decided to still go rustic yet incorporate an element of romance to play on the exquisiteness of the new venue.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

This one is easy, I without a doubt married my soulmate. Not only did I feel an overwhelming amount of love between us, but also from all of our family and friends. I’ve never before experienced feeling so much love in one room, I could literally physically “feel love”!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

At least one thing is bound to go wrong in the planning process so roll with the punches along the way and don’t stress too much because in the end it will all work out and your wedding will be the best day of your life. Enjoy every second of the day, don’t stress about your hair and makeup being perfect, or decor details that a the time you feel are important. The most important thing is that you are at ease and can really take as much in as possible and losing focus on that can take away from the magical experience.

AMEN to her advice! And how about that gorgeous location? While I myself had a traditional church wedding, there is something so magical about an outdoor ceremony. I’m always secretly jealous of those who marry (or dine afterwards) under the stars. Are any of you planning an outdoor wedding? I’m dying to know where!

XOXO,
Carlee

Susan and Joel were married at the Casa Monica in St. Augustine, Florida, a venue full of rich jewel tones, plush velvet decor, and rich details. They topped it off by adding in beautiful, bright flowers, lush silks in blue and purple, and just the right amount of sparkle. Enough from me, I’ll let Pure Sugar Studios show you the rest.
