Are any of you planning on incorporating a bohemian theme for your own wedding decor?
This colorful modern wedding from Dev Khalsa Photography takes place in a setting that you wouldn’t normally expect- the Idaho mountains! But let me tell you- it most certainly is amazing! Colorful decor paired with a relaxed mountain atmosphere created just what the bride and groom wanted- a beautiful and fun wedding!
From the bride, Emily:
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
The master planner awards go to my parents, who were really helpful, generous and thoughtful about all of the details. Dev, our photographer, was also really helpful in thinking through the details of the day and providing other vendor recommendations. The wedding coordinator, Megan, at the venue, Trail Creek Cabin with Sun Valley Company, was also really helpful.
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
The most important thing was for us to feel comfortable with the vendor and to trust their products would be beautiful. Dev, the photographer, is a family friend who had also taken some beautiful family portraits for us the previous winter. She was the first vendor we picked and we were lucky she was available to work with. She did some engagement photos for us in the summer before the wedding that turned out beautifully, and helped my husband and I get a feel for how she works. She is so laid back and fun, but at the same time totally professional, well prepared, helpful and thoughful. She even sent us movie tickets in the weeks leading up to the wedding so that we would remember to take a date night. She is great! Our flower vendor, Kurt, was also so fun to work with. He really focused on how we wanted the wedding to look and feel and then put his imagination to work. He said he does not like to do a wedding without meeting the bride in person and really getting a feel for her. I thought that was particularly insightful. And we chose our cake after a wonderful morning tasting at Cristina’s of Sun Valley. We had a chocolate cake with strawberry and cream filling. It was heavenly. And the tasting was such a special time, too; it set the stage for how Cristina would treat our actual wedding cake.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
I don’t know that there was one inspiration. The setting in Sun Valley, Idaho, is pretty hard to beat. We just wanted it to be celebratory, beautiful, comfortable, and fun.
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
Organize as much as you can and get things planned; you don’t want to spend the days before your wedding frantically pulling things together. It helps to work with vendors you like and trust. And then a few days before the actual event, stop working on it. If things are not done then, someone else can help, or it wasn’t that important to begin with. The most important part of your wedding is that you get married; no one will know the other things you had in mind that didn’t get finished. The weekend is going to fly by, so do your best to take it all in!
Emily’s advice is absolutely SPOT ON! I myself was up until 2am the night before my wedding finishing up DIY details, and I definitely don’t recommend it!

Happy Monday everyone! I am SO excited to be starting our week off with this beautiful southern farm wedding photographed by Kelli Kano. The images are purely breathtaking, the light blue, orange, and red color palette is refreshingly gorgeous, and the bride and groom are SO in love. Everything about this wedding is an absolute joy to see, and I *know* it’s going to put a smile on your face!
Insight from the bride, Kate:
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
Without a doubt, it was our wedding planner, Gilda McDaniel. She was so open to all of my ideas, no matter how outlandish or silly they seemed – her response was always, “We can make that work” and she would add it in to her timeline of our wedding day. She was always there to keep me on track, and assured me that I would not have to worry about a thing on our wedding day; she would be there to make sure I was where I needed to be when I needed to be. It was such a relief, and made my stress practically nonexistent! At the end of the wedding, I started referring to her as my fairy godmother because everything we wished for she made happen! I would suggest to brides who do not want to use a wedding planner to have someone in charge of the timeline of events – – it would have been so easy to miss cues for me, I was having such a great time that day!
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
I really wanted to work with people who “got me”. Luckily, our wedding venue, Fearrington Village, has an on-site restaurant/event staff, so we went with them. I came into each meeting with photos (how did we plan weddings before Pinterest?!) to convey how we wanted our wedding to feel. I have to admit, I was a very relaxed and low-key bride; I was totally open to suggestions from the vendors. It was extremely helpful to look through photo albums of florals/cakes/decor that the vendor has done before – that way you know what they do exceedingly well, and also what you don’t love about their work.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
My inspiration was actually our venue. Fearrington is an old working dairy farm that is now a little village with an inn, a couple restaurants, specialty shops, and of course their famous belted cows that live in the pastures that surround the village. I really wanted everything about the day to enhance the beautiful landscape that was already there. I went with a very natural details – the floral arrangements looked like they could have been picked right out of the garden and bunched together. Something that was really important to me and Hunter was that our guests felt comfortable, and we tried to echo that same relaxed comfortability in our details.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Oh my gosh. So many things! If I had to say, I would probably say the reception. We had it in the barn where we feasted on the yummiest southern cuisine and had an awesome band that had our guests on the dance floor late into the evening. I think what was so great about it is you have people from all parts of your life in the same place at the same time. I also have to say that our first look was really special. Our incredible photographer, Kellie Kano, warmed us up to the idea and I am so, so glad she did. Quite honestly, it was one of the few times that day I actually got to be alone with Hunter, since we were being such social butterflies at the reception!
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
Something WILL go wrong on your wedding day, but I promise you that you will be the only person who notices it. All of your guests are there to celebrate your happy day, and will not notice if one little hair is out of place :) Another piece of advice is enjoy yourself. Please don’t feel like you have to manage every little thing – this is your wedding day and you deserve to have the time of your life! I know I did!
Kate’s advice that something will go wrong on your wedding day- it’s SO true. Even if you have a wedding planner handling everything… not everything is going to go as you planned, it really helps if you just know that ahead of time.

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?
We see ourselves as modern photographers because we shoot photojournalistically, with state-of-the-art equipment and open-mindedness. But our images are defined by the style and personality of the people in them.
What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?
We were lucky enough to photograph a gorgeous wedding at a castle in Germany, and the couple’s family decorated a 2-seater bicycle with strings of flowers! The bride and groom had so much fun riding it, it was beautiful and amazing!
What is your favorite store or brand?

What is your favorite thing about weddings?
We LOVE weddings, the anticipation, excitment – even the pressure. But our favorite thing about a wedding is the moment our couples see their images for the first time… knowing that they are getting to experience that day again – maybe even seeing it as better than they remembered :)
What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?
We have a hard time describing ourselves that way – so here is how one of our brides described working with us: “A friend once said that with Concept, the love just comes through the pictures. I think that pretty much sums it up right there! In addition to that though, having you guys as our photographers was like hanging out with old friends. Bret and I were both at ease and having fun – we just enjoyed the moment, the day. You guys rock!”
What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?
The wedding experience begins with the first phone call or email we receive from our clients. We are friendly, honest and flexible – always remembering that the work we do is not about us – it’s about them. Our preference is to meet face to face with our clients whenever possible, and we skype as an alternative. It is so important to know that you enjoy the personality of your photographers, as well as their work, since you spend so much time with them on your wedding day.
Once all questions are answered, we design an online quote and contract for our couples, so that all of the information we agree to is easily available. We give our clients our cell pone numbers and ask that they call with any and all questions. About a month out from the big day, we send them a sample formals list / timeline to fill out that ensures all pictures that are important to them are covered.
On the actual wedding day, we go out of our way to be perceptive and polite. We laugh at how ofter we get complimented on how great we are to work with long before an image is even seen. We do not limit the amount of images we shoot, and we individually edit every image we give to our clients. We guarentee a 30 day turn time for all weddings.
