I am in a serious swoon over this super-romantic, beach chic wedding from Stephanie A. Smith Photography. With vintage details and the softest blue and peach color palette, this gorgeous Florida wedding will have you in a major swoon, too. The stunning bride, Katie, is here with her planning insight:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

To be honest it was a group effort. I did not hire a wedding planner and chose to keep it smaller and intimate with close family and friends (50 guests). I had amazing moms that helped with the preparations and details, a wonderful matron of honor that kept everything on schedule and in order, and an outstanding staff at Miromar that made sure everything was PERFECT! I could not have had such an amazing day if it wasn’t for the help from so many people. They truly made sure the day was perfect for everyone.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Referrals and meetings. Miromar offered a list of trusted vendors which was my first source. From there you can tell a lot from the type of correspondence they provide and how quickly they respond to you. My WONDERFUL photographer I actually found my checking blogs. By googling wedding photographers (and looking at A LOT) I was able to tell from Stephanie’s blog that she captured the type and style of pictures I hoped for. Talking to her on the phone and seeing how fun and enthusiastic she was just sealed the deal.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I would say it was “vintage / beachy” I wanted to give it the beach style since we were on the water but LOVED the vintage wedding style. I also found a bouquet in a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine that I fell in love with and it set the tone and color palette for the entire wedding. It was a loose mix of peach, white, and light blues that I just loved. All I had to do is show the picture to my florist and say that this was the color and inspiration for the entire vintage feel and he did an amazing job at duplicating my vision. Pictures help!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I honestly can’t say it was one event but it was little moments. Here are a few that caught me by surprise that I just loved: Getting ready with the girls and drinking mimosas, first looks not only with my husband with also with my dad and brothers – priceless. That moment walking down the aisle. I thought for sure I would be so nervous I would only want to look for my husband but I became overwhelmed looking at all of our family and friends who were there for us and the love they showed on their faces as my dad and I walked down the aisle. Don’t forget to look around – it is amazing.  My first dance with my husband. It was the first time I cried all day. For some reason it completely took me off guard and although we were in front of everyone, it felt like our first moment we really had by ourselves. Dancing! I was on the dance floor all night and loved every minute of it. With 50 people I was able to talk and or dance with everyone and not spend time “making the rounds.”

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

VIDEO TAPE YOUR WEDDING. My biggest regret. I thought it was unnecessary at the time but I really wish I could watch some of these moments. Relax. You won’t regret that the napkins were folded the wrong way but you will regret that you overacted to it. Let someone else worry about it. Think of your guests first. If they are comfortable and having a great time – its always going to be considered a great wedding and think about each moment – remember how you are feeling.

Fabulous advice, Katie! I especially love that they had an intimate party of close friends and family.

How about you? When it comes to your guest list, are you of the “less is more” mindset or feel like the more the merrier? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Planning!

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

I guess it would be hard to classify us as one type of look, we love shooting in natural light and capturing that bright, romantic and airy feel, but we also love to add a feeling to our photos that we hope will bring the couple back to the moment that we captured for them. Whether it’s through light, angles or lenses, when we get that feeling, we feel we’ve done our job.

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

One of my brides had hand made her bouquet totally out of vintage brooches, it was stunning! I loved that each brooch had a story, where it was from, how it was found and there was true meaning behind it.

What is your favorite store or brand?

Favorite store hands down Anthropolgie, if I could move in there I would be in heaven. I also love West Elm, they have the best displays ever.

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

I am slightly obsessed with the details & I love when the groom sees the bride for the first time (love when couples do a first look by the way).

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

We approach everyone like they are friends. We have a real, honest desire to learn the stories that have brought you to this point. We pride ourselves on walking away from this day not as vendor but as someone that you would hangout with when it’s all said and done.

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

We listen. This is something that can’t be overlooked. You have planned your day for months and if we didn’t organize, pay attention to your vision and try to relay your vision through our images, we would not be where we are today.

Happy day-after-Halloween! This classic Fall wedding from Rebekah Hoyt Photography is the perfect way to start off November. Full of reds and oranges, and even pumpkins for table numbers, a Fall wedding was exactly what Ashley and Karl wanted. They’re sharing all about their planning process with us today…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My family lives out of state so I depended a lot on my maid of honor, my bridesmaids and my husband to help make our day so wonderful. We felt so loved by our bridal party because everyone invested so much time and effort into whatever little projects needed done to make our wedding day perfect in every way. I was so fortunate because I had such an amazing support group and my maid of honor went so above and beyond in every way from my bachelorette party to all the finishing details leading up to our wedding. I also had a coordinator at our venue site which helped make the execution of our day go exactly as planned. I definitely recommend having a planner. It relieves so much stress knowing someone is completely dedicated to ensuring everything goes perfectly.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important thing to me when deciding who to work with for my wedding was finding vendors who were not only creative and shared my personal style, but also passionate about what they do. I found I had great relationships with my vendors as I was able to truly connect with them as we had ideas and style choices in common which worked together to make my vision come alive. I felt they were just as invested as I was in my wedding day and made one of the most important and of course stressful times in my life so enjoyable. I found a lot of my vendors as well through recommendations of friends who were previous brides. It’s great to see a possible vendor in action or photos from an event of someone you know as you will get true feedback on their experience with that vendor. Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone whose wedding pictures you saw on a social media page. I found my make-up artist through seeing her work for a wedding of a high school friend. I reached out for her contact info and I was so happy I did because she was amazing!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I absolutely love fall. It has and always will be my favorite time of year. It is also my husband’s favorite time of year too so the minute we got engaged we knew we wanted to get married that time of year. Nothing is better than the cool weather, hot cider, the beginning of the holiday season and the amazing colors on the trees. I wanted to emulate fall and its beauty into our wedding with elegance and romance all over. I decided to use creams, gold’s and oranges as my base colors throughout my tables and decorations as the gold’s and creams could be my neutral bases and the oranges would be my pops of color. I also added touches of sparkle and lot’s candlelight all over the reception room to create a romantic fall evening setting. For my centerpieces I knew I wanted something different and when I think of fall I think of trees. I made the flower balls that hung from my trees with fresh carnations to add pops of fall colors that complemented my theme and had my florist add crystals and hanging candles to the trees to create that feeling you were walking through a romantic forest. My husband played an intricate role in our wedding details as he was the one who had the idea of carving pumpkins as our table numbers. I wanted to incorporate pumpkins into our decorations of course and his idea was perfect. We were running errands one day and came across white pumpkins. They were perfect! I had never seen white pumpkins before but they worked out perfectly. We also tried to incorporate fall into our food served and also had a choice of Orange Spice Cake and Carrot Cake as our wedding cake flavors. One of the moments I clearly remember was when my husband and I walked into the reception after being announced and I remember looking around and saying, “Wow, this is exactly how I pictured it looking.” It couldn’t get any better than that, I felt so accomplished and so proud of all of our hard work.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about my wedding was not only my dress which I loved but also the decision my husband and I made to do a first look. My husband was nervous about standing in front of everyone for that moment when he saw me for the first time so we decided to do it privately before the ceremony. This was a suggestion brought up by our photographer and I am so happy we did it. Being able to have that moment that is so special just between me and my husband and away from all the chaos allowed us to truly enjoy each other and enjoy the moment. We didn’t have to worry about anyone staring at us and we just got to be “us” and capture that moment in its true romance. When I saw his reaction when he turned around it made my heart melt and I felt such an immense feeling of joy and happiness that I will never be able to match to any experience in my life. We scheduled time for us to have pictures done after our first look before the guests started to arrive so it was perfect because we got to enjoy each other and enjoy so much more of our day together and create so many memories even before all the festivities started.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My best piece of advice for brides is to decide what is most important to you when it comes to all of the aspects of your wedding day whether it is location, a vendor or attire and splurge on that. You will be so happy that you did. I have always had a passion for photography and I knew that having an amazing photographer who would capture all of the important and genuine moments of our day was very important to me. When I found my photographer I was blown away by her work and I was so excited she was available for my day. We moved a few things around in our budget and made a few sacrifices so I could have the photographer of my choice. I am so happy I stuck to what was important to me because I have such beautiful pictures that captured the most important day of my life. Also when it comes to your wedding day remember that anything happens whether it was planned or not just makes your day that much more yours and remember the person standing next to you on that day is what matters. That’s what makes your life complete.

SO sweet right?! And I just love her advice-find what is most important to you and put it as a budgetary priority.

What is most important to you on your wedding day?

Can’t wait to hear!

Cheers!
Samm

From Dorangela of Two Prince Bakery Theater:

When the fabulous designer Loralee Lewis asked us to style a Halloween inspired party shoot featuring one of her amazing paper suites, we knew it had to be something out of the ordinary. Her gorgeous Haunted Mansion theme is so elegant that an upscale engagement party quickly came to mind. This suite would also make a gorgeous themed wedding reception as well. Further she suggested we make all the food items completely gluten free to best showcase our expertise. Our inspiration for this party shoot was the spooky and very much in love, Morticia and Gomez from the Addams Family. This nostalgic TV couple is the perfect combination of a spooky, elegant and a romantic loving couple.

To compliment the paper suite we kept the colors very neutral, black, taupe and rich tobacco with splashes of white and creams. In designing this party we wanted to have fun Halloween elements that were unique to this colorful couple but also very sophisticated. The rich tobacco color furniture and gothic like wrought iron chandelier, sconces and candelabras help to engrain a sense of mystery, while the lush and light colored floral arrangements enhance the romance of the occasion and soften the setting. Design elements such as the soft glow of candlelight further enhance the romantic feel, while a few carefully selected elements such as the “smokin Gomez” cocktail embellished with fondant cigars, Morticia and Gomez dressed cake pops and even the iconic Peacock rattan chair which the lovely Morticia often sat on, give it a sense of whimsy.

Another element of this Spooky engagement party that makes it special and unique is that the entire menu is completely gluten-free. Since I am a gluten-free baker, we wanted to show how a gorgeous party can be created with rich and decadent treats while being completely free of gluten.

We started with a gorgeous paper suite from the fabulous Loralee Lewis, then came up with an elegant and fun concept, worked with some amazing vendors and a talented photographer captured it perfectly creating a whimsical Halloween engagement that’s too pretty to be scary.

No detail was missed in this shoot! I love the custom hors d’oeuvres and desserts and the “spooky” take on them- of course it helps that that they look delicious! And while this was designed as inspiration for an engagement party, these ideas could pertain to any event with a spooky theme!
