This stunning peach and navy Maine wedding that I have for you all today comes to us from Robin Nathan Photography, and you are just going to LOVE it! Drawing inspiration from their home states of Georgia and Maine, Jessica and Jonathan created a wedding centered around an underlying theme of “Georgia peach” and “Maine blueberries”. From blueberry lemonade and peach tea, to peach and blueberry balsamic vinegars as wedding favors, this couple infused their theme into all they could- and did it quite beautifully I might add! Jessica is here with us today to share more about their wedding details and their wedding planning…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I am a wedding coordinator by profession, so after seeing a wedding every weekend May-October for the past three years I kinda had an idea of the things I wanted and what things I didn’t want to waste time on. So my knowledge of a typical wedding helped a lot during planning. The day of though, the best help was hands down from the coordinators at French’s Point (where everything was held). They made sure that everything I had worked so hard to plan was executed to perfection. I didn’t have to worry about anything; they were just on it. I’m a true believer that you don’t have to have a wedding planner but you must have a wedding coordinator. Without one there’s just no way I could have enjoyed the day like I did.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Most of my vendors I had know through work, so I was lucky in the sense that I didn’t have to do too much searching. Every one of my vendors were people that I would completely trust to preform beautifully without much (or any) direction from me, which was super important to me since I didn’t have much time to spend hand-holding in the middle of wedding season; I had to be focused on my brides, not on worrying about my own wedding. I knew I could tell them what I wanted in January and come July it would be perfect (or even better).

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

When we started looking at wedding colors we were drawn to blue and coral and decided to mute them a bit. We called the colors Blueberry Navy and Peach and then they started to remind us of our home states; Jonathan is from Maine (Maine blueberries) and I am from Georgia (peaches). We didn’t want our wedding to have too much of a theme but once we had that connection the details just started flowing; magnolia branches above the alter, signature drinks (Maine blueberry Manhattan and Georgia peach Bellini), blueberry and peach inspired hors d’oeuvres, fresh blueberries and peaches in the champagne toast and the wedding cake (one of them), blueberry & peach balsamic vinegar favors, etc. It was fun coming up with personal touches that were so personal to us.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

How it felt. I tend toward a type a personality (to put it lightly) and I was super worried that I would be stressed, worried, and/or planning on my wedding day. I vowed to myself that I would try not to be and I wasn’t! I know that my wonderful team of vendors helped make that happen but I was also just too darn excited to worry. I couldn’t stop bouncing around with excitement. I have truly never been so happy in all my life and that’s an emotion that you can’t replicate.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Planning a wedding is stressful enough there’s no need to make it worse by worrying if your cake is going to show up on time. Choose vendors you trust to make your day perfect, tell them what you want and let them do their job. That way you can make sure you don’t lose focus on what your wedding is really about; you and your fiance’s love and commitment to each other. Second best piece of advice: wear flats or dance barefoot! (no one will know under that long dress and you’ll have a lot more fun)

Love Jessica’s advice and all of her insight! What a great idea to draw inspiration from their home states. You really can get inspiration from just about anything!

So how about you- where are you getting your inspiration for your own wedding? And how much do you love the peach and navy together?!

From Jennifer of Pretty Little Details:

New Jersey is the garden state, but you wouldn’t always guess it based on the representation in pop culture. In reality, New Jersey is full of beautiful gardens and parks that are hidden all over the state. One of my favorites is Sayen Gardens which is located in central New Jersey. There are so many cute spots which were the perfect backdrop for our Going Green styled shoot.

We wanted to incorporate emerald green with various shades of green and softened the palette with a light blush pink. The main aesthetic of the shoot was vintage so we worked with Erica from Rustic Charm to find the perfect green mantel for our ceremony setup. For the flowers, we choose blooms that had lots of texture…light green celosia, green roses and light green amaranthus were the perfect fit.

I love the use of green and how it gives a beautifully fresh garden feel to everything! The hints of pink are perfect, and I just love the bride’s eclectic green dress!

So what do you think? Are any of you using green as one of your wedding colors?

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mother and I really worked together to come up with a wedding that really spoke to a classic DC wedding. We are both event planners so it was a lot of long nights making sure all the details were right!

Great advice, Ashley! Short, sweet, and to the point. I loved the gorgeous reception venue and especially loved the various slate tiles the couple used as chalkboards to note each table name. Super easy (you can find them at home improvement stores) and super cute.

Brides, would you consider an inventive way to display table names or numbers? I’d love to hear your ideas!

Happy Planning!
Carlee

I’m so excited to introduce y’all to this week’s vendor, Chicago photographer markit photography! Kristi is one of the sweetest girls I know, and it also helps that her work is fabulous! Get to know her a little more…

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

I would consider my style modern with pops of vintage. I focus on capturing images that I hope to be classic and therefore timeless for you to remember and celebrate ten years down the road.

Vendor of the Week: Markit Photography via TheELD.com

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

An impossible answer! I love capturing fine details that not everyone may see the day of, but they can remember forever. I shot a wedding at Chicago’s Newberry Library and the bride created a book with the pages glued together, with a heart cut out of the center of the pages. The rings were then tied to the book with twine and carried down the aisle. The entire library theme perfectly came together!

What is your favorite store or brand?

For your registry, Target or Crate & Barrel. For the day-to-day, Anthropologie. For wedding gowns, BHLDN. For bridal jewelry and accessories, twigs & honey. For unique finds for your big day, thrift and antique stores. (Or, for all of the above, Etsy.) For men’s suits, J.Crew.

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

The first look. There is nothing like capturing the intimacy of that moment. Watching the pre-wedding nerves fade as a bride and groom hold each other gets me every time. That and the father/daughter dance…I’m a total daddy’s girl.

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

Patience, friendliness, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to create a visual story of your day. I’ve been told that I feel like “one of the family” which I take as such a high compliment! At the same time, I am a very time-conscious person, which allows me to collaborate with other vendors in keeping your day on track.

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

I make a point of responding quickly to all inquiries, I love getting to know my clients and their stories, and I make a point to stay available until our final meeting a few weeks prior. I’m open to building custom packages, and I enjoy providing timing and day-of guidance. All this serves to make each of my brides’ lives easier.
