A destination wedding in Italy is something couples typically dream of, but for Isa and Paul it was all they ever wanted. Infusing the story of how they met (on an airplane!) into their wedding details and pairing that with the romance of the surrounding city of Florence and a modern yellow and navy color palette, their destination wedding was everything they wanted. And lucky for us, Rochelle Cheever Photography was there to capture the stunning day so we could enjoy it too…

Having first met on an airplane, Isa and Paul knew their love story would be an adventure and they made their wedding just that. After falling madly in love with the Four Seasons Firenze Hotel in Florence, they enlisted professional planners and designers who brought helped them overcome the challenges of a destination wedding and brought their ideas to life.

In lieu of wanting to capture their personalities and love for each other, the couple personalized their wedding in each way possible. From the guest’s welcome bags with tiny hearts made with their thumbprints to their vows Isa and Paul’s attention to detail brought a piece of home to Italy. Isa was even able to design the wedding cake alongside the Four Seasons catering department.

The inspiration behind their big day was their own ultimate love story. Being that it was the fall season they chose a regal blue color palate, tying it Paul’s mother’s favorite flower, yellow roses. The elegance of the architecture fused brilliantly with the ceremony décor. While the garden venue was in the heart of Florence, there was a sense of peace and privacy created by the 16th century convent of the hotel. The aisle was lined by crystal draped bouquets that danced in the breeze and led to a breathtaking chandelier hung beneath a canopy adorned in yellow roses. By designing the reception décor as an intimate dinner under the stars the evening was utterly picturesque. Over 2,000 candles posed as the stars, illuminating the Italian night sky. The evening ended in a firework spectacular as guests danced the night away.

And to add to all this beauty, we have a film from Elysium Productions so you can see even more of Isa and Paul’s wedding day!

That candlelight is just heavenly, don’t you think? Now I’m dreaming of a wedding in Italy… sounds like a good place for a vow renewal, right? ;)

Happy Friday! We’re ending this week of pretty beautifully with a fabulous and fun Texas wedding from Kelly Hornberger Photography! With a lovely purple color palette, Sarah and Huynh’s wedding was filled with fun, love, and lots of eclectic details. They’re both here with us today to share a little bit about their day:

What was your favorite part about the wedding?

HUYNH: I had a couple of brief moments that are so clear – when our wedding planner asked the guys to line up for the ceremony and all of the stress left my shoulders; of course, seeing Sarah and her dad walking down the aisle was a big one.
SARAH: A crazy amount of little things – I loved that our ring bearer was so excited about his job that once the ceremony was over, he fell fast asleep; I loved Huynh’s best man’s toast; I loved dancing the Cupid Shuffle with my flower girls. Most importantly, the amount of love and joy in the room was palpable and we were just so humbled that all of these dear friends and family came to Houston to celebrate us. We could not be more blessed!

What was one quirky or crazy thing that happened on your wedding day?

SARAH: The quirky funny thing that I will never forget happened right after the bouquet toss. Before Amanda, who caught the bouquet, had even a chance to walk across the dance floor to take a picture with me, my new brother-in-law stepped right up to her and introduced himself as “Huynh’s single brother”. Even now, I still laugh it.
HUYNH: The kids brought the dance party! Our cousins, nieces, nephews, and friend’s cute kids sure do know how to bust a move. I think they stole the show.

What was the most special moment on your wedding day?

Huynh and I had agreed to no gifts but, of course, he broke his own rule and gave me a stunning amethyst ring. My family has heirlooms that we all enjoy – the sixpence in my shoe was also in my mom’s and sister’s shoes on their wedding days and then, of course, my Nana’s aquamarine ring that we all wear on special occasions – so when Huynh handed me the amethyst ring, he explained that he wanted this ring to be the heirloom for our family. Cue happy tears (and coincidentally, the only time I cried all day!).

What do you look forward to most about being married?

SARAH: I was most excited about expanding my family ten-fold so, with that, comes the excitement of holidays spent with the Phams and spending Miller holidays with my hubs! I also love calling Huynh my husband, I love hearing him call me his wife, and there seriously is nothing sexier than your husband wearing his wedding band.
HUYNH: I’m looking forward to seeing my wife pregnant and looking beautiful; that moment when our family of two becomes a family of three and creating those traditions and memories together – from road trips to first days of school. Then, of course, growing old together with the hottest woman I know.

I love that these two answered their questions together! And how much fun is their streamer exit?!

What do you have planned for your wedding exit? Sparklers, bubbles, or something different like Sarah and Huynh’s streamers? I’d love to hear!!

Have a fun and fabulous weekend!
Cheers!
Samm

There’s nothing I love more than a wedding that is filled with love and joy, and Kelley and Asher’s elegant Florida wedding was just that! Kallima Photography did an amazing job in capturing every single emotion of this lovely coral fete- the images are just stunning! Kelley is here today to share her planning insight with us:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I could have not planned my wedding were it not for my mom (Linda), mother-in-law (Diane), and a few close family friends! I called them my wedding fairy godmothers, because I gave them my vision and they made it happen! I was blown away by the amazing ideas they helped me come up with. Our family friend, who has planned many weddings in the past, helped me keep up with everything I needed to do! It was crazy trying to finish my last semester of college and plan a wedding. She helped me created task lists and timelines that kept me on track! She helped me with the seating arrangements and then did all the day of event coordination and setting up. Again, it was family and friends who helped set up the day of my wedding! I cried as soon as I walked into Casa Marina and saw the how they had made my vision come to life. I know some people say it take a whole village to raise a child, well it took a whole village to make this wedding come together!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Well, for Asher and I we really had to prioritize what we wanted, what was the most important thing for us to have and that we wouldn’t compromise on, and who we thought would be able to bring our vision to life. But, most importantly we prayed together! Honestly a lot of things fell into place! Our cake was given to us by Marker 32 Restaurant in Jacksonville and I was BLOWN away by how beautiful it was. The florist was easy to choose. Tiffany at Floriade Florist made the most magical and gorgeous arrangements I had ever seen at an amazing price. The chapel was easy. It was it was the little chapel from his home church beaches chapel church and the venue, casa marina. Well, when I walked in it made me cry and I just felt right about it. Our photographers, Kallima Photography were the easiest to choose. I knew I wanted them and put that priority in our budget. Having amazing photos took look back on for the rest of my life was more important than sending out save the dates or having the fanciest invitations. They are the most amazing photographers, down to earth, easy to work with, and full of life and joy! It was such a blessing from the Lord and he confirmed all the choices we made. Like at Casa Marine, I really wanted the chiavari chairs but I knew it was not in our budget. A month after booking they called to let me know the venue was buying chiavari style chairs to replace their old ones and that they would be in time for my wedding!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We love the beach and I wanted our wedding to embody our personalities and our love for the beach in a chic, classy and unique way. I loved the lanterns he used and the romantic feel of the white drapes. I LOVED the idea of using oyster shells and pearls to bring in the beach instead of starfish, which a lot of people use.

Most of our décor was handmade! I made all the coral flowers on and around the lanterns for the centerpieces, yes handmade at 32 separate petals a flower. We used old wooden pallets and painted instead of passing out programs and also as décor around the reception. My mom made the pillows used at the reception. My mother-in-law made the sendoff ribbon wands. We made our own invitations. The Oyster shells were from a local restaurant, a family friend bleached them, dried them and then used them to make the oyster votives and name places! Like I said, they were my wedding fairygod mothers!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Oh gosh, everything?! I would have to say our ceremony. Walking down the aisle in my mother’s wedding dress to the love of my life. (I wore my mom’s dress and veil, but remade the top into a sweetheart neck line) It was so symbolic, emotional and beautiful knowing that Asher and I had saved ourselves and stayed pure for each other and now we were becoming one. I’ll never forget the moments before I walked down the aisle when it hit me. Having my daddy walk me down, seeing my mom, my 4 sister and 2 brothers as well as my best friends standing on the stage was so special. And of course, seeing Asher’s face. We exchanged our vows, vowing to lay our lives down for one another and promised to honor and esteem each other. Then having our parents come up and lay hands on us while our family and friends stretched out their arms to bless our marriage was so powerful. The ceremony was perfect and blessed.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I want to tell every bride and groom this! During your wedding breathe, take mental pictures of everything, and steal each other away. During our wedding Asher and I would just grab each other and sneak away to hug and kiss and soak it all in that this was all for us and that we were finally husband and wife! During the dancing we broke away for a minute, stood in the corner and watched our family and friends. I’ll never forget how much joy was in that place. We were so encouraged that all these people came to celebrate us and our love. These are such special moments that we will Cherish for the rest of our lives.

Such a wonderful reminder! I wish my husband and I were able to sneak away a little more on our wedding day!

I love how Kelley and Asher drew their wedding inspiration from their love of the ocean. Are any of you doing something similar?

One of the things that I was super excited about when it came to wedding planning was taking engagement photos. But it was also completely unknown territory to me. We had never had professional photos taken before, and so many questions came up as we were preparing for the session. What should we wear? Should we match or not? Where should we go? What should we do? I had so many questions, but alas, never got answers.

How To Have Awesome Engagement Photos via TheELD.com

Since engagement photos are one of the first “events” of wedding planning, I thought it would be helpful to have some information to help you all out! Of course the best advice always comes from the pros, so I asked V List photographers for their best tips and suggestions when it comes to engagement photos:

“DO an engagement session, even if you think you don’t need one. It gives you a chance to get to know your photographer and vice-versa. I always give my couples little posing tips during their session and I also chat with them about their relationship, what they’re most looking forward to on their wedding day, etc. It helps them relax in front of my big, obnoxious camera so that on their wedding day they will hardly even notice me!”Holly Gardner Photography

“What you wear is just as distinctive as your props and location. I don’t want to say that you have to fit some cookie cutter mold and tell you what you can and can’t wear. I want the clothing to be at least somewhat comfortable so you can move in it. As far as shoes go, pick fantastic ones that you think will stand out in the photos. If they are not so comfortable, just remember to bring along some flats to walk around in because we will be doing some walking. Logos on clothing is not recommended, unless it has to do specifically with the location or is a prop you are including. You should definitely have at least two outfits picked out. Try to coordinate with each other, but don’t get too matchy. Pinterest has lots of great ideas for engagement session wardrobes. Also, please consider the location of the session and the time of year (temperature) when deciding your wardrobe, though I don’t want this to fully control your ideas. Just because we will be outdoors does not mean you cannot wear a dress and heels!  Flattering accessories are great as well for men and women!” – Regina Rached Photography [Read more tips from Regina here!]

“Brides, treat yourself to a manicure for the shoot, because I WILL photograph your hands! I learned this early on in my career when a couple of my brides showed up with chipped polish I had to fix in Photoshop. Now I know better and they do too!” – Mikkel Paige Photography

“I recommend getting really personal when you make your location choice. If you love to cook together, invite your photographer over to capture the two of you in the kitchen. If you have a favorite little cafe in town, head there to start your session. If you enjoy going camping, take your photographer into the woods and get busy building a campfire to roast marshmallows and get cozy. I’ve seen adorable engagement sessions taken inside the Home Depot… it’s ok to be different, and to be silly. Just be yourself!” – Jessica Haley Photography [Read more tips from Jessica here!]

“Don’t come into the session with expectations… don’t try to duplicate something you saw on Pinterest or a blog. Your engagement session should be about the two of you and your personalities. Also, don’t bring a 3rd wheel, especially mom or dad. It makes things uncomfortable for you and us when parents are watching (it happens more than you think).” – Wesley of Rae Leytham Photography

“Practice posing in front of a mirror and figuring out which angle is most flattering for you. If you can get your partner to pose with you, even better!  Use magazine pictures or images on the internet as a guide and source of inspiration.” – Sophan Theam Photography [Read more tips from Sophan here!]

“Take the time to do your hair and makeup. If you’re so inclined, have it done professionally. This is a day where you should really feel confident + beautiful, so why not treat yourself to a little pampering beforehand. You’ll show up to your session feeling like a million bucks, which will translate into amazing photos! Plus, it will make it even easier for your future hubby to stay connected to you if you’re looking super cute for your session.” – Dana Cubbage Weddings [Read more tips from Dana here!]
