What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Shelby Peaden, my wedding planner, was invaluable throughout the entire process.  She had great relationships with all my vendors, and made incredible recommendations based on my vision.  The day of the wedding she orchestrated everything beautifully. Shelby and her assistant made sure everything was in place and if there were any problems I had no clue.  It made my day as stress free as possible!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I was planning a destination wedding so I wanted someone who was in Destin, Florida, and who had incredible reviews.  Every review I read gushed about Shelby Peaden, so I had to have her!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

My husband, Ryan, proposed to me in Destin on the beach (when I was 7 months pregnant), so we wanted to go back to where it all happened. Our son turned 1 on 9/19/13 and we got married on 9/20/13.  The whole color theme was based on the guys ties.  I fell in love with the color combo and designed everything from there.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I loved how simple yet elegant the décor worked out and how it all came together.  I simply just showed the florist and planner a few pintrest pages and when I walked out that afternoon it looked perfect.  My absolute favorite thing is the pictures that we have to remember that day.  They are priceless!!!  Cassie and Andrew Olimb are truly talented.  They did such an amazing job capturing all the emotion of that day.  I look at them every day still!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

EAT!  I paid and planned this delicious menu and didn’t get to enjoy it because guests kept interrupting me! In all seriousness, try not to stress about the small stuff.  At the end of the day you will be married and that is what it’s all about.  If a major snafu happens who cares? It will make a great story in a few years!

In all seriousness, Alexis’s advice is spot on!!! I know my wedding planner friends are always trying to get their brides and grooms to sit down and enjoy their meals!

Did you see that tidbit about how Alexis was inspired by the ties that the groom and groomsmen were wearing? I love that! How about you- are your wedding colors being inspired by anything in particular?

I just love this jewel toned bohemian wedding from Live View Studios! With autumnal details and a historical venue, it’s only fitting that lovely bride Chelsea wore a vintage gown. She’s here with us today to share her planning insight:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mother was the biggest help and blessing throughout the whole wedding planning process. She actually did most of the decorating and did a ton of DIY projects herself. I joke that if it wasn’t for her and her artistic gift, we would have had a pretty boring and plain wedding. She did a tremendous job at taking what I love and making it come to life. P.S. She did all the flowers herself!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important thing to us as we were choosing who to work with for our wedding (photographer, videographer, reception venue, etc.) was passion for what they did, a desire to capture what makes us unique, and intention of putting our needs and wants first. And we couldn’t be more happy with the decisions we made. Brent and Anna (Live View Studios Photography) are natural artists as what they do. They created a dreamy experience, and captured every moment with emotion and such a focus on detail. They are such precious people. Grace Jones (Grace Jones Videography) is a talented friend of ours; and we were so blessed to have her as our wedding videographer. She appreciates the eccentric things like I do, and she perfectly captured the celebratory feel. Greg Carlyle (Millennium Center Reception Venue) makes each client feel like royalty. Whatever your heart desires, he will make happen. And the venue is breathtaking!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I knew I wanted to create an environment that captured who Matt and I are as individuals and as a couple. I would define both of us as free spirits. We both appreciate the vintage look; and I have always had a little boho in me (my friends and family joke that I was born in the wrong era). I wanted the wedding details to be unique; and that’s where my mom came in. A lot of the foundational inspiration came from Pinterest; it was a great starting place. Another detail that was extremely important to us was the music; and we are blessed with many talented friends and family. Our dear friend Nick Williams played the kora as I walked down the aisle and then another dear friend of ours (Andrew Lazare) played at the reception (Band: The Heritage). Our overall goal was to make this a celebration and make everyone feel comfortable, appreciated, and loved; because if it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be who we are as individuals or as a couple. Each and every one of them has had an impact on our lives; and we love them all dearly.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Do I have to choose just one favorite thing? If I had to choose one, I would say the ceremony meant the most to me. Dylan McKeeman (Reynolda Church Music Director and a friend of ours) led the most intimate and beautiful ceremony. But if I may add: I wore my mother’s dress, which I told my mom meant the world to me. Cathy Zakula did the alterations to the wedding dress (well basically created a new dress); she made my dream wedding dress a reality.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I have two pieces of advice for other brides: first, brides, this is your special day, so make sure everyone around you treats you that way. Give yourself plenty of time to get ready the day of, enough time that you actually enjoy it and don’t feel rushed. Second, consider doing a “first look” with your future spouse. I was a nervous wreck until I saw Matt; I will cherish that time in history forever. It was so special and intimate. And the “first look” footage and photos are by far some of the best because it captures such real love, celebration, and emotion.

Wonderful advice! I love that Chelsea decided to stay true to her boho self and re-worked her mother’s gown to add a vintage touch.

How about you? Would you wear an heirloom gown on your wedding day? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Planning!
Carlee

Hey friends! Today is a little bit of a special day- it’s the 3rd “anniversary” of my first day working full time as a blogger! It feels like it was yesterday, but at the same time, it also feels like it it’s been forever- isn’t that such a weird concept! Well, if you know anything about me by now, I absolutely LOVE taking every opportunity to celebrate anything and everything, and I have the perfect thing to help… an inspiration shoot that might be my favorite one I’ve ever featured!

Emily Grace Design and Amalie Orrange Photography got together to create a shoot especially for ELD, but they didn’t want it be just *any* shoot. They wanted it to be unique, bold, colorful, and fun- everything that I love of course. With the help of the talented Garden Gate Florals and Renee Nicole Design, what resulted are some of the most amazing geometric wedding ideas that I’ve ever seen. Triangles, hearts, and squares, plus lots of color and just as much glitter too! I really can’t think of any better way to celebrate this special day!

But wait! I have a little something else that I’m doing to celebrate, and wedding pros, this bit of celebration is for YOU! So soak up all the amazingness in this colorful inspiration shoot, and look for the next bit of celebration at the end of this post!

Isn’t all of this just simply AMAZING?! From the day that they were shooting this, I knew I wouldn’t be able to wait to share it! And really- how much fun would this theme be translated into a real wedding? I *know* guests would have a blast with it!

Brides, are any of you planning a colorful, fun wedding like this inspiration? Or maybe having a geometric theme like this (I’m totally crossing my fingers someone is!)?

———————————-

And now, a little something extra to celebrate my anniversary of “going full time” with ELD! This something extra is just for wedding pros- because honestly, I wouldn’t even be here without them! I want to thank these amazing wedding pros, so if that’s YOU, click on this link to find out how YOU can celebrate my “anniversary” with me! (Hint: you can win something!!) :)

I am incredibly excited to share this vintage eclectic Missouri wedding from Amy Meyerott Photography with you today! Filled with literary-inspired details and hints of blue and gold, just wait until you see all of the pretty!

From the bride, Maggie:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom! I live in NYC but got married in St. Louis so she was invaluable for helping make up the distance.  We made all the decorations for the wedding and she really poured herself into creating a beautiful day for me- knitting shawls for guests to keep warm, sewing all of the table linens, creating 4 ft tall marquee letters to light up the night.  There was an incredible labor of love that made the day.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Flexibility. Since this was a destination wedding we had to hire many vendors without meeting them in person.  We did Skype sessions with our photographer and officiant and got samples of our musicians’ work online.  We also wanted vendors that would respect our budget.  Our caterer especially was great in figuring out ways to have amazing food without excess spending- for example we served dinner family style and had a limited bar menu which helped cut costs.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I wanted the wedding to feel like the home where I grew up- we had grits and cornbread for dinner, cotton bolls in my bouquet, family heirlooms decorating the tables.  I come from a family of teachers and librarians- we love stories and I wanted everything at our wedding to reflect that- the suitcase collecting cards was carried by my grandfather in the 1950s, the hanger for my dress was covered in vintage pearls from costume jewelry the women in my family have worn.  When I looked around our reception I could see generations of family and love represented there.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Our ceremony was so special and many guests said it was the most personal one they’ve attended.  Our officiant helped us craft a ceremony that reflected our own love story and incorporated family traditions, including having our grandmothers sign the marriage papers as witnesses and asking our mothers to read passages from our favorite authors.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Enjoy the process of planning, but know the difference between looking at tv shows and Pinterest for inspiration and pressuring yourself to compete with other brides.  You don’t have to have menu cards and a DJ light show just because that’s the standard you see online, and you’re not weird if you don’t cry with joy when you find The Dress!  You don’t have to live up to anyone else’s idea of what a wedding should be- your wedding will be special because it’s yours.

Did you love it?! I did! So tell me, what are you doing to make your wedding your own? What traditions are you incorporating or how are you going to bring out your own personality in your wedding day?

Can’t wait to hear all about it!

Samm
