Deciding whether or not to hire a planner is a big decision, and here at ELD, it’s our goal to provide you with information that will help you make those hard wedding planning decisions. In my experience, I have noticed there are a few things that couples usually don’t know about working with a planner. Today, I hope to debunk some myths for you and share some inside truths about working with a wedding planner…

4 Things you dont know about working with a wedding planner via TheELD.com

1. A wedding planner wants to help you stick to your budget

A lot of brides think that only those with the largest budgets can or should have a planner because we only make “extravagant” suggestions and work with the highest level vendors. One thing you may not know is that one of the best things about having a planner is that he or she actually help you with your budget! One of the very first conversations I have with brides is regarding creating their budget, and then budget management is something that we continuously refer to throughout the planning process. And because a planner wants you to stick to your budget, he or she is only going to recommend quality vendors that will fit your budget needs, and will give you advice on where or how you can actually save money.

2. A wedding planner wants to help you plan your wedding and make your vision come to life

Another misconception brides have about working with a wedding planner is that they will come in and take over. A planner’s job is not to monopolize your planning or to force their own ideas on you. In reality, a planner wants to help you plan your wedding day exactly as you have envisioned it. She (or he) will take your personality and ideas and help execute your dream day. Having a planner is a huge step towards making your wedding dreams come to life.

3. Wedding planners have inside knowledge

Another great thing that you may not know (or think about) when hiring a wedding planner is that by doing so, you get someone with inside knowledge. Inside knowledge on planning weddings and all that comes along with it: venues, contracts, vendors, how to save money, how to handle issues that arise, guest lists, seating charts, how to navigate family drama, etc. Most brides have never planned a wedding before and while wedding planning should be fun and sparkly and exciting, there is also another side of it that is full of contracts, budgets, decisions, and a lot of coordination and logistics. Having someone who has navigated the planning process before can be invaluable to you (and your sanity) in the planning process.

4. Other vendors will love you for hiring a planner!

Finally, the last thing that you may not know about having a wedding planner is that other vendors will love you for it! Not only does having a planner make your wedding experience better but I often hear from vendors that having a planner makes their experience so much better. Some vendors even offer discounts to couples who have a planner. Wedding planners are skilled in pairing couples with vendors and creating great matches. They are there to answer questions for both sides along the way. She or he will handle timelines and provide a well thought out day for all vendors involved. A planner is there to oversee everything and will even act as extra hands if needed. Having a wedding planner allows your vendors to come in and focus on their piece of your wedding day without having to worry about anything else, which allows them to do their best work. Photographers shouldn’t need to be make boutonnières or find your second cousin for family portraits. Florists shouldn’t have to worry why the tables they need to dress aren’t set up yet. Having a planner can make everything smooth for all parties creating a stress free planning experience and magical, seamless wedding day.

So there you have it- four things that you may not have known about working with a wedding planner! I hope this provided some insight for those of you wondering if hiring a planner is right for you! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments below- we’d love to help you make your decision! :)

Wedding Planning Advice: Do Your Research via TheELD.com

“Do your research on everything and do not base your decisions solely on the opinion of others who were married before you (and believe us, there will be A LOT of them). Choose wisely. Planning a wedding is much different than planning a birthday party.”

I’m fairly certain that I’ve never seen anything as gorgeous as today’s blush wedding. Dairing Events planned and designed this beautiful romantic riverfront feté, incorporating calligraphy, vintage elements, and blush florals, and the amazing Brooke Images captured it all flawlessly! The lovely bride, Chelsey, is here with us today sharing her wedding planning insight, so keep an eye out for her wise words!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Well hands down, Adair Currie of Dairing Events helped me the most. We had an immediate connection. We first met at my dad’s house on the back porch to discuss the look and feel of what we were wanting for the wedding day. We laughed and had a great time, but she was actually listening and brainstorming the whole time. We debated on places to get married finally telling her my last idea that we could get married right here in my backyard. It had everything, St. Johns River, warmth, history, and unique charm. It also would come with a ton of logistical elements that I was unsure how to navigate around. She assured me we could get it settled. And she did just that and more!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The only vendors I had picked out once we decided on location was the caterer and photographer Brooke Images. We chose Catering by Liz because she does amazing food all the time. My family has been to many events catered by her and as my dad said, “If Liz is doing the food, you just go.” Ashley and Greg of Brooke Images are friends and they have such great style and are easy to work with. The rest of our vendors were recommended by Adair. They were all reliable and honest. We loved them all. She has a good relationship with lots of vendors so we got pretty lucky.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I truly wanted the wedding to look beautiful, relaxed, and remind people of us. We were able to use a lot of the natural beauty of the river and the landscape of my dad’s house. I think my style was a romantic-clean look. I never really had a good handle on what it was called, but I knew it when I saw it. Adair had many of the ideas that ended up making it perfect. One of my favorite details of the day was our place cards that were vintage bud vases with a name tag hung around the neck. Different flowers were in each one and it made for a stunning display. I wish I could have it set up in our house daily!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Favorite part of our wedding was getting to have all of our friends and family in one place at the same time. It was unbelievable to me to go around and see all of these people I grew up with or my husband grew up with and know they were there just to support us in this endeavor. My second, not even second, 1B favorite moment was when the Rabbi was doing our final blessings. A wind kicked up and sent a shower of leaves raining down over us and the guests. It was something we thought only we recognized, but afterwards everyone was talking about it. Very special moment that we will never forget.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I think you have to try and keep things in perspective. It can be extremely overwhelming planning because you ultimately want it to be beautiful, fun, meaningful, and a day that you will never forget. The reality is that the couple sets the tone of the wedding. If you are having a blast, everyone else follows suit. I have been to a ton of weddings and this is always true.

That is some of the best advice I’ve heard!! It’s so true that you (the couple) set the tone of the wedding. Which is why it’s so important to be able to enjoy your wedding!

I love how Chelsey and Brett’s inspiration for their wedding design was for it to remind their guests of them. That is truly the epitome of designing a wedding that is all your own. And PS- how amazing are those mirror table numbers! Now THAT is how you use a mirror in your centerpieces! (If you didn’t know already, I HATE mirrors underneath centerpieces!)

Are any of you going to be doing unique table numbers like Chelsey and Brett’s? What are you planning on doing?

From Amanda Douglas Events:

Classic lasting elegance is indispensable to this theme. When choosing the location for the wedding decide on one with neutral color but detailing on the walls. White is a great wall shade as it will make accents in the room pop in comparison. The walls for this shoot had beautiful detailing printed into it, and added to the romantic mediterranean feel. Warmth from the room is emitted from every detail, including the simple aged wooden table. To tie the bride into the theme she dressed in a grecian inspired wedding gown with an empire waist and flowing bottom half. Effortlessly her hair was tossed over her shoulder with spiraling loose curls falling down her side. Sweet white treats adorned with edible gold paint sends your taste buds to those rolling hills of the mediterranean.  Placing these treats on white plates makes them pop in comparison to the warmth of the wooden table.    Flowers in the bright Pantone colors Celosia Orange and Dazzling Blue tie the theme together.   Placing them in gold, white, and blue vases keep these stunning flowers as the centre of attention.  When choosing flowers, mix and match textures, shapes, sizes, and colors.  It is this variety that will create depth and intrigue your guests. The Mediterranean Romance theme mixes simplicity with a vibrant warmth.  At an event such as this expect you guests to be grinning ear to ear, while enjoying the flowers, and decadent treats.

Isn’t all of this amazing? I just love the unique color palette- who would have thought that orange and blue could be so gorgeous and chic?!

I’m definitely a fan of unexpected color palettes… what do you think of them? Are any of you using a unique color palette for your own wedding? I’d love to hear!
