Lauren and Seth adore the Outer Banks, so of course their favorite place had to be the location for their destination wedding. Rather than hosting family and friends on a traditional day for their wedding, they celebrated on a Tuesday- I love that! Guests stayed with them or in homes close by in order to enjoy the sun, sand, and surf before and after their wedding day, which made for such an enjoyable celebration.

The bride and groom’s soft pink, green, white, and ivory palette blended perfectly with the natural beach environment surrounding them. The bouquets designed by Flower Girls OBX included a lovely mix of hydrangea, roses, and greenery, and I also love the floral adorned altar. Lauren and Seth recited their vows on the beach where Lauren’s dad served as officiant before retreating inside with their guests for a fun night of dinner and dancing.

We always love when we can share a wedding with you from Lindsay Fauver Photography! Enjoy, friends!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My family, without a doubt. Our wedding was a very “family affair” :) My father was our officiant, all of our siblings were in the bridal party, my brother in law was the DJ, my aunt designed and printed our programs, a good friend from our church was our caterer, and all of my family (aunts and uncles and cousins included!) spent the morning of our wedding day decorating the whole venue (I could list 10 more things they did, but those are just a few highlights!). Anytime anything started to feel overwhelming, I had someone close to me jumping in and helping. I couldn’t have done it without them!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

My now husband, Seth, and I are very close to our family and friends. We knew that we wanted the people working with us for our wedding to feel “part” of the day- not outside of the day. For us, the personal connection to these people was the most important. We were so blessed to work with the greatest vendors, who all became friends!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Seth and I had a budget, and knew we had to prioritize when it came to wedding details. Our number one priority was our guests- we wanted them to feel as loved and appreciated as we could, reflecting how dear they are to us! We purposefully had our wedding on a Tuesday at the beach, and most of the guests stayed in the beach house with us for several days before the wedding (and those that didn’t were just a few minutes away). We were able to spend so much intentional time with them, which was one of the best parts of the week! We wanted the wedding to feel calm, natural, joyful, and delightful. We knew that for us, that all culminated at the beach, so after we picked our wedding location, we picked details that fit with that overall style.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Besides saying I do and getting to walk back down the aisle with my husband ;) I loved our setting. The beach has such significance for the both of us- it is where we have always returned to find peace and where so many milestones in our relationship have been celebrated. We were blessed with the most beautiful day- the air was warm, there was no wind, and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I will always remember saying our vows, looking out at the waves crashing, and feeling so abundantly blessed.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

It can be easy to get swept up in a “picturesque” vision of what your wedding day should look like, and to put undue pressure on yourself to make things look a certain way. It is great to go online or to bridal magazines for inspiration, but even more special than a ‘picture-perfect’ wedding is a day that reflects the two of you, the promise you are making, and the joy that comes along with that! Plan well but hold things loosely- some of the best parts of your wedding might just be the things you didn’t plan for :) Focus on making your wedding day a reflection of who you are and what matters most to you both, and enjoy every moment as it comes. It goes by fast!

Michelle and Kevin’s California wedding was nothing short of an elegant affair. Friends and family of the bride and groom flew in from all over the world to experience a beautiful day celebrating the duo at Hummingbird Nest Ranch. Perfect lighting, romantic gardens, and a blush color palette with pops of deep red were just a few of our favorite elements, and we of course can’t forget the custom escort card installation created by CCL Weddings & EventsChristine Farah Photography captured the day perfectly, and we’re also sharing some of Michelle’s best wedding advice too- read on to see it all!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Being a MOH for my sister’s wedding the year before really helped. I knew what it took in terms of planning for her to special day.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important thing to us when deciding which vendors to work with comes from what we thought was worth splurging on and what we were fine without. My husband and I made a list of what was important for us to have at the wedding. We knew we wanted to provide our guests with amazing food and drinks. So we made sure to hire a outside catering company instead of using the in house service. The in house service would’ve saved us a ton of money, but it was worth the splurge. Everything raved about the food quality and service, which you don’t hear often at a wedding.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We went with timeless and elegant but yet sparkles of fun thrown in there. We didn’t want to follow too much of what was trendy at the moment and instead what we really believed was easy and tasteful.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Seeing everything come together from months of planning and the fact that we were able to enjoy every minute of the weekend! It was stress-less and enjoyable filled with love from people that travelled all around the world to celebrate with us. We wanted to celebrate our 12 year relationship and be able to share that with our friends and family is everything.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Hire a wedding planner if you can afford one. The planning process can be a headache and tons of decision making, but at the end, we couldn’t have done it without our team working throughout the process to make sure our day was perfect.

Editor’s note: We are so excited to be welcoming our friend Evan from The Groom’s Guide to ELD as our resident groom expert! He’ll be popping in from time to time to share insights especially for the men who are such an integral part of the wedding day. He’s starting us off with the basics, and something that every groom should read… a few simple things required of  grooms, aka, how to be an AWESOME groom.

As many things do, this started as something simple and quite different.  My wife and I run a fantastic wedding photography business that I am proud of.  (Well, if we’re being honest the truth is that I run very little of our business and rely on Caroline to take on the awesomely complicated tasks of building and managing our livelihood while I function mostly in a creative position.) While wanting to take a more active role in our business, I recognized a consistent problem among my grooms- they don’t know how to get dressed.  Most often this is in an expected way, like they don’t know how to pin a boutonniere- but every so often I’ll have a guy that can’t even tie a tie.  I decided that it was time to create some sort of resource, and “The Groom’s Guide” was born.

5 Simple Things Required of Grooms via TheELD.com

I initially came up with the idea to create a video series called “How to Wear Clothes” for guys on their wedding day.  This turned into a possible monthly feature on our blog and has since grown intoThe Groom’s Guide: a wedding resource for the guys.  I now post on Instagram several times a week with helpful tips for grooms gearing up for the big day, I’m active on Pinterest and I am posting to our blog every 1 to 2 weeks.

I’m covering the basics before getting into the details.  Where to get your suit and how to do it, what to do for your groomsmen’s gifts, how to pour the perfect pre-wedding drink and more.  Eventually I’ll cover everything from choosing a wedding DJ to planning your bachelor party and even step outside of the wedding world with #notweddingwednesday topics such as home brewing and fantasy sports.

5 Simple Things Required of Grooms via TheELD.com

So now that I’ve introduced myself, this leads me to my first official post for grooms here on Every Last Detail- 5 simple things that are required of grooms.

Be involved.

If you haven’t already, please- take a second to realize you want to be involved.  Wedding planning isn’t all flower arrangements and color samples.  There are the obvious fun things like food tastings and the honeymoon but your opinion can matter elsewhere too.  What’s more, you may even really want to have a hand in a few things and not even know it yet.  Take a look at some local DJs and volunteer to be in charge of that, do the same with the photographer and any other areas that may intrigue you.  These things may become something you’re excited to be a part of once you start actually paying attention.

Pick your suit.

One of the biggest regrets you may wind up having is not caring more about your suit.  There is a lot that goes into picking the perfect look and even if you know nothing about men’s fashion you shouldn’t leave it up to your bride.  Do some research. You can start at The Groom’s Guide, but learn your stuff.  Regardless of how much control you’re choosing to have over your wedding, one of your top concerns should definitely be how you look.

Care.

Don’t be that guy who just nods at every sample she shows you or say “she wants to do it alone.”  It may be true that she wants to be running the show but trust me nothing would make her happier than to learn that you have an opinion on what she’s working so hard on.  Do a little research without her around and learn a thing or two about the wedding planning process and all the options.  You’ll be glad to be more involved and you’ll look like a hero to her.

Make the most of it.

The time you spend with your groomsmen is a once in a lifetime event, don’t screw it up.  Make sure you make time for your guys on the morning of, try not to be nursing a hangover the whole time, and don’t let the crazy schedule ruin things.  Plan a lunch or simple activity to keep things interesting.  If you’re drinking while getting ready, take it up a notch and buy your guys a nice bottle of whiskey to share.  You picked this group out of a lifetime of friends you’ve had, make sure they know they’re the best.

Don’t forget why you’re doing this to begin with.

You love your fiance.  You love her so much you’ve decided to give her all you have and spend your life with her.  It’s easy to get lost in the planning and forget what caused all of this to begin with.  Take a moment every now and then to realize that the reason the both of you are going out of your minds putting all this together is that the best most creative most kick ass wedding is the only way to celebrate what you two have.  You’re doing it for each other.

More on The Groom’s Guide…

The Groom’s Guide is awesome and helpful, plus there’s a huge amount of content on Instagram and Pinterest.  @GroomsGuide is posting several times a week with helpful tips, but I’m just one of dozens of amazing men’s interest resources posting on Instagram.  Not all men feel inclined to try IG and Pinterest out, but it’s worth the leap of faith and I hope I can help introduce more men to the better, cleaner and more targeted social media platform.

In the end, I just want to help guys look good both leading up to the wedding and on the big day itself.  I also want to help men execute this day in a way that makes them even impress themselves and really make the best of it.  There is an insane amount of research that must be done in order to do all the things that make a wedding day perfect for guys (99% of which are things that guys would never even think to look up in the first place). Let me do the research for them and I’ll break it down into simple fragments of information that is easy, and hopefully fun, to read. That’s what The Groom’s Guide is all about.

Here’s what is most important about The Groom’s Guide: it’s not your only resource out there but it’s the only one for regular guys.  One thing that has driven me to make this bigger and better is that the resources already available like GQ and Esquire make it seem as though men’s fashion costs no less than $1,000 per outfit.  There are other great bloggers out there like The Well Groomed Groom and they have great content but they specifically target the refined gentleman.  My guys don’t own their own tux and only know 1 or 2 tie knots.  I want to show guys that they can look better, feel better, be more involved and be more passionate about their wedding planning and do it all without breaking the bank.  This shouldn’t suggest that The Groom’s Guide is a bargain hunter, I just want to show how to spend wisely in the right places and a $700 watch is not the right place for most of us.

With a hint of modern style and tons of romance, these green and white wedding ideas are absolutely breathtaking! We love how this look designed by  Imoni Events portrays that white is always going to be timeless and classy, and not only that, but you can infuse other styles by incorporating different elements, such as vases and patterns too. Flowing fabric, greenery, and a patterned table linen are a few of our favorite things from this inspiration, and we can’t wait for you to see how Andrew & Jade Photography captured it all!
