This eclectic wedding style combined modern elements with old-fashioned details inspired by the Swiss Family Robinson film. This castaway wedding vibe incorporates intentional details everywhere- from the map lining of the stationery pieces from Grace and Serendipity, to the lush tropical plants and florals created by Supposey, this vendor team pulled together so many fun elements that truly brought this unique theme to life.

By combining a found-object aesthetic, like the bamboo drink luge, with island elements such as palm fronds, seashells, and giant protea, they created a beautifully cohesive style that definitely had a unique twist. I don’t think we’ve ever seen such a creative bar set-up, but it definitely gives us that handmade feel inspired by the Swiss Family treehouse. And we love that the look of the reception tablescape combined the eclectic island style mixed with a splash of elegance, made complete by the metallic sheen of the table linen and calligraphy elements.

We hope you enjoy these fun ideas created by PS Weddings and so perfectly captured by Aislinn Kate Photography as part of The Everything Workshop with Aislinn Kate!

The bride and groom’s style was absolutely perfect. A messy bun for the bride and a scruffy, shipwrecked vibe for the groom supported the laid-back, relaxed and sunny wedding shoot. We absolutely love the feel and look of a two-piece bridal gown, and it again mixed elements of both a casual and elegant feel without compromising style. The black and maroon groom’s suit incorporated the perfect elegance and uniqueness.

We love that they took a unique concept, and created a full style that feels both fun and elegant in a way that is totally achievable for a real wedding style. What do you think? Do you feel the connection to the Swiss Family Robinson film in these wedding ideas.

If you’re an Amazon addict like my husband and I, then you know about Amazon Prime Day! I was perusing the deals, and I realized that quite a few of the items that I bought after I had my baby were listed, so I thought I would put together a quick little post to share those new mom must haves. If you or someone you know are having a baby soon, you’re going to want these things! (Some of these items are currently on sale, and some will be going on sale throughout the day. Make sure you add them to your “watch” list if you can’t purchase yet!)

[ezcol_4fifth_end]Vava Nightlight: When in the hospital, I quickly realized that I wanted to see baby at all times, and I needed a little bit of light when getting up multiple times per night. This nightlight is rechargeable, portable, and has different levels of light- even different color tones. Definitely love it and it will be a staple in our house for years to come I’m sure![/ezcol_4fifth_end]

[ezcol_1fifth]New Mom Must Haves via TheELD.com[/ezcol_1fifth]

[ezcol_4fifth_end] Hallway nightlights: Again, waking up multiple times a night. These are great because they’re light-sensing, so you just place them and don’t have to think about anything. We put some throughout our house (you know, for when I wake up in the middle of the night looking for a snack) and one in our bathroom too (which I could have definitely used when pregnant too!). [/ezcol_4fifth_end]

[ezcol_1fifth]New Mom Must Haves via TheELD.com[/ezcol_1fifth]

[ezcol_4fifth_end]My Brest Friend Nursing Pillow: This may look weird, but it’s awesome. At first, I was a little hesitant to use it because of how it looks, but friends, it is amazing in the newborn nursing stage! You can literally just attach it to yourself… I would walk around with it on some days! The Boppy didn’t work out super well for me in those days, but I do use it now that baby is older. [/ezcol_4fifth_end]

[ezcol_1fifth]New Mom Must Haves via TheELD.com[/ezcol_1fifth]

[ezcol_4fifth_end]Stroller fan: Living in Florida, this is a MUST (although we’re not doing much walking nowadays in the summer). I quickly realized that covering up baby from the sun also resulted in creating a lack of airflow, so this was a quick purchase. [/ezcol_4fifth_end]

[ezcol_1fifth]New Mom Must Haves via TheELD.com[/ezcol_1fifth]

[ezcol_4fifth_end]Mederma: Yeah, I know people don’t really talk about this, but listen- stretch marks happen (and if you’re lucky like me, you get them AFTER you’ve had the baby- not sure how that happens), and this stuff is normally pretty expensive! Any chance to get it on sale is a big win in my book! [/ezcol_4fifth_end]

[ezcol_1fifth]New Mom Must Haves via TheELD.com[/ezcol_1fifth]

[ezcol_4fifth_end]Pacifier Holder: I haven’t purchased this yet, but I most definitely will be! I’ve been carrying pacifiers in a small tupperware container, and it’s just not cute! [/ezcol_4fifth_end]

And then here are a few other items that I didn’t see were on sale, but they’re all items that I ended up getting after baby came.

[ezcol_1fifth]New Mom Must Haves via TheELD.com[/ezcol_1fifth]

[ezcol_4fifth_end]Freemie Concealable Breast Pump Collection Cups: I ended up getting these after the first month, because I quickly realized how uncomfortable the normal pump pieces are- especially when I was trying to kill two birds with one stone by working and pumping at the same time. I also use these when I’m putting makeup on (which doesn’t happen quite as often nowadays) and they don’t get in the way. Now, I will say that they’re not quite as effective as the normal pump parts, but they’re great for comfort and ease! [/ezcol_4fifth_end]

[ezcol_1fifth]New Mom Must Haves via TheELD.com[/ezcol_1fifth]

[ezcol_4fifth_end]Hands-free pumping and nursing bra: I was totally not prepared for pumping y’all. I figured I wouldn’t need to pump until a few weeks after baby was born, but of course I was wrong. I ended up having to pump to get my milk to “come in”, and it was then that I realized I didn’t have a bra to facilitate hands free pumping. I ordered this right away, because I’m all about killing two birds with one stone. [/ezcol_4fifth_end]

[ezcol_1fifth]New Mom Must Haves via TheELD.com[/ezcol_1fifth]

[ezcol_4fifth_end]Auto Rock ‘n Play Sleeper: So I heard so many people say that they swore by the Rock ‘n Play throughout my pregnancy. What I didn’t hear them say was that there were a billion Rock ‘n Play models, and that you needed to make sure to get the one that rocks automatically. As a result, I registered for the wrong Rock ‘n Play, and didn’t realize it until a few weeks after baby was home. So, make sure that when you’re registering for the infamous Rock ‘n Play, you’re getting the AUTO one! [/ezcol_4fifth_end]

[ezcol_1fifth]New Mom Must Haves via TheELD.com[/ezcol_1fifth]

[ezcol_4fifth_end] Dockatot: LIFE. SAVER. I don’t know what it is about this thing, but it’s amazing. We alternated between this and the Rock N Play for the first few months, and it also makes it easy for baby to sleep ANYWHERE. It’s pricey, but it’s WORTH IT. I am so glad that we went for it and got it… I don’t even want to think about life without a Dockatot! ;) [/ezcol_4fifth_end]

I’ll be adding in other items as I think of them… or rather, as I buy them!

When Elise, a wedding designer and bride-to-be, was planning her California wedding she knew she wanted it to be an intimate celebration in a beautiful setting. When she and her groom, Michael, found Griffith Woods, nestled in the heart of Sonoma County, they knew they found the perfect place to tie the knot! Elise, of Brannan Events & Design, along with her planning partner and husband-to-be, Michael, put together a stellar list of vendors to create this magical day of romance amid a lush, wooded setting.

We love the special details these two tied in throughout their wedding celebration. They chose their wedding date of Friday, May 13th because the bride’s parents were also married on a Friday the 13th, and they see it as a day of good luck in her family. They also chose to pay homage to the bride’s father, who passed away of cancer, with sweet details such as a reserved chair at the ceremony with a mirror that was etched by the groom. Elise also gifted her groom one of her dad’s handkerchiefs, which she hand embroidered. The handmade details didn’t end there- the bride and her mother handmade her veil, which included pieces of her mother’s veil.

One of our favorite details of the day was the inclusion of a gelato cart to give their guests a refreshing treat as they started the day. Their reception was full of romantic details, full summery florals, beautiful touches of calligraphy, and so much joy and celebration. We of course love that they insisted on including their beautiful pups, Daisy and Carli, that participated throughout the day. We think you’ll love the sweet celebration they shared, and we’re excited to share the beautiful images that Kreate Photography captured!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Being a wedding planner myself, I felt confident- not to mention, I was looking forward to- taking care a lot of the planning and design details myself! What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I was lucky enough to work with many of the vendors ahead of time but I definitely wanted vendors that cared about their clients and who wanted to make the process as easy as possible!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

When we were hunting for our wedding venue we knew we wanted to feel completely immersed in the redwoods. That was a huge inspiration in the design! I wanted it to feel romantic and intimate with lots of natural details.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Other than marrying the love of my life and having amazing people there to celebrate with us, I loved how secluded and serene the setting was! Our fur babies were able to roam the property off leash and we were in our own little world for a while. That was one of the major benefits on having our wedding on a private estate:)

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Don’t sweat the small stuff (even though it feels much bigger sometimes) because at the end of the day you’ll just be grateful to be married to your best friend:)

We love how much love and personality went into so many of the special touches and design details of Elise and Michael’s wedding day. It is clear that they planned with the utmost intention, and the celebrated with so much joy!

Stephanie and Matt’s special day was a sweet backyard wedding with beautiful garden details so perfectly executed by their wedding planner, Jackie Fogartie. Some of our favorite details for the day came in the form of wedding day fashion. Stephanie wore a simple gown with a lace top and romantic skirt that danced in the wind and glitter Kate Spade heels, while Matt sported khaki suit with seriously the coolest bowtie we’ve ever seen. Matt wore a feather bowtie from Brackish while his Groomsmen wore wooden bowties from Slim Timber (you will LOVE them!).

The ceremony was set under a large tree where a white arbor dripping with white and green florals created the most beautiful backdrop for exchanging their vows. We love how it complimented the natural lush foliage of the backyard and it was accented with beautiful floral features created by Tommy Braswell.

As the skies turned dark and the rain came down, Stephanie and Matt continued to celebrate their day with the most joyous hearts. The first dance was moved into the living room, and their smiles paint the perfect picture of no matter where they were, they were cherishing that moment, and we love how Cheyenne Schultz Photography captured it all.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

This is definitely a two part answer for me! My entire family was a huge help for the entire planning of my husband Matt and I’s wedding. But especially my father, who married us and worked tirelessly making my childhood home look perfect! Remodeling their backyard and parts of their home to make it look even more breathtaking than it already was! My mother, who without her, I think we would still be planning our wedding! She was my rock, during the planning and worked the hardest on making sure our special day was just that! As for the day of the wedding our amazing wedding planner Jackie Fogartie was an absolute rock star!!! We used her month of coordinating option and she was a genius! She not only got on her hands and knees to wipe the dance floor after it rained, but her hair even caught fire and she didn’t skip a beat!! She had wonderful ideas and her input was priceless! She really knows her stuff!!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I think the first criteria was price! When planning a wedding on a budget unfortunately that has to be the first thing I think about.  A friend had recommended Jackie and we met for lunch and just clicked! My photographer, Cheyenne Schultz Photography was the first vendor I actually chose. I didn’t even have to think about it!  I saw the work they had done at my best friend’s wedding and immediately fell in love!  With the other major vendors that we used they were all family friends! Our alcohol was gifted from one of my aunt and uncle. Most of the flowers we used for decorations were very real looking silk flowers that my mom and I put together in a floral design class! The real flowers like the bouquets, aisle markers and some vases were put together by the teacher we had for our floral class! The catering was done by a friend of my Yia Yia and Papoul’s (that’s Greek for grandmother and grandfather).  With other vendors like our photo booth and bathroom rentals, the most important thing when deciding on who to go with was their reputations. I read several reviews and spoke with people in the industry to see what their opinions were as well! I wanted to make sure I wouldn’t have to worry about anything at the last minute.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I think my inspiration was nature. My parents backyard garden is gorgeous! And I always wanted that to be the backdrop of the most memorable day of my life! I went with the garden theme to showcase how beautiful the natural setting could be.  I used very few colors and wanted tons of greenery like seeded eucalyptus and succulents.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I think the favorite thing about my wedding was seeing how happy every single person was that attended! Weeks after the wedding friends and family were still talking about how much fun they had! It goes to show that if you have good food, fun music and lots of booze, the fact that it rained cats and dogs doesn’t matter to anyone! Picking the right vendors that had impeccable service, put Matt and I first and left their egos at the door were crucial in throwing what is essentially the biggest and best party of our lives!!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I think the biggest piece of advice I could give to other brides would have to be to stay open to new ideas and don’t be afraid to think outside the box.  This is the biggest day of your life but it doesn’t have to be as stressful as you will eventually make it.  Make sure you put your guests at the forefront when planning the details, after all this is a big party and the guests are very important! At the end of the day the most important thing is is that you will be marrying the love of your life.  Put your foot down when needed but don’t be a diva!

We love that they obviously share our love for sweet treats as they not only had a popsicle cart, a variety of mini desserts, and even a popcorn bar. What a fun way to wrap such a special day!
