Interview
Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?
We truly love, love and all that goes into a wedding day. We're very natural photographers - we like natural light and minimal posing, and we just want your day to be captured just like it was in that very moment. We want you to look at these pictures 20 years from now and say - "yes THAT was us," not some version a photographer wanted you to be. So we consider our style very classic and clean, light and airy, natural and timeless. We also love fashion magazines and the ads within them, so we mix in a little modern/editorial flair to your portraits and details as well. We have a strong emphasis on couples portraits and details, because they are our fave! :)
What is your favorite wedding detail you've ever seen or created?
Oh gosh, fave detail? That's hard. Details are our most favorite thing to photograph, so honestly we love it all! We're obsessed with photographing rings, the buds of floral in your bouquet, amazingly creative centerpieces, pretty invitation sets, and also the tiny brooch you pinned on the inside of your dress that was your grandmothers. We love the super meaningful and also just the super pretty!
What is your favorite store or brand?
Well you'll pretty much always find us wearing: Banana Republic or J Crew with a Starbucks in our hand (Tiff's an obsessive "gold card" girl), and since we love to cook and eat our favorite store to shop is Whole Foods. :)
What advice do you have for a newly engaged couple?
Enjoy this time together. It seems so crazy and busy - full of wedding budgets, sending "save the dates," and making seating charts. At the end of all of this you two have a marriage, not a wedding. While we love weddings and what we do -we are also passionate about marriage and all of the couples we have the privilege to work with. It's easy to get caught up in the details or on Pinterest (I know -lol). So set down your "wedding binder" often and just love each other and go on a date. :)
What is your favorite thing about weddings?
Our favorite thing about weddings is the love. The love the bride & groom have for each other, the love of family and the love of great friends. We have the opportunity to document one of the happiest days in a couples life and for us, that's an honor. Since we only take a limited number of weddings per year it gives us the great privilege of really getting to know our couples. By getting to know them we understand how they love and get to photograph it naturally because no two couples love the same. A second runner up fave thing though truly is the details.
What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?
Well we're very relaxed and natural, and love to have fun with our couples, but are also equally anal retentive too! :) LOL. (Tiff's a crazy organizer and timeline junkie!) We purposefully take a limited number of weddings each year so we can genuinely get to know our couples. If we had a ton of weddings going on - we honestly wouldn't have the time to connect. The majority of our couples aren't from the area, but we still make sure we can get to know them through skype, questionnaires online, calls and emails. And if they can get to town and hang with us for a few hours at an engagement session - that's the best! When we know our couples we can really serve them the way we love to. We said before and we truly believe it - but no two couples love the same. So when we know our couples - we understand how to bring the real them out. Whether they are a little more shy, outgoing and goofy with one another, or simple and classic - we get it, and work with who they truly are, which in turn will give them classic, timeless images of THEIR love. Truly, we really have been blessed with amazing couples that we end up friends with many just by the nature of spending time together. It's such a joy for us to do what we do!
What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?
We're super organized! Tiff really takes the time with our brides to be super anal retentive on the front end of planning so that our couples have an amazingly relaxed wedding day. Everything has already been planned to a T to maximize natural light, allow for the correct amount of timing for each segment of the day - that they can fully be present at their wedding. The worst thing for us, would be to feel like we're cattle driving them all day from here to there - so we have questionnaires for our couples to fill out along the planning process, phone meetings, a timeline call, etc so that they are totally taken care of. Then, we can all relax, let their wedding day unfold naturally -and capture all the love, the details and the emotions!
