What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I was in physical therapy school and doing rotations throughout the time I was planning my wedding. I knew I was going to need some help and the venue we chose also required a wedding planner as well. We decided to go with Meagan Warren as our wedding planner and I couldn’t have done it without her. She kept me on track planning all the details and offered several options for me to choose from each time. She was wonderful and extremely reasonably priced and I couldn’t have done it without her. Also, we had a 16 month engagement and I was glad to have that time throughout the planning process. We never once got stressed planning things and we were able to take our time and enjoy the whole process as a result. As for the wedding day, my bridesmaids definitely helped in every way possible. From carrying my dress and flowers to helping me do my make up and getting dressed to just making sure I was having the best day possible. They were amazing!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

There were a few important things for me when deciding who to work with for my wedding. First, it was important to me to find vendors that listened and understood what I wanted on my wedding day. I met with several wedding planners and felt that some of them did not listen to what I wanted but instead molded my wishes into something they thought would be better. Second, it was important to me to work with people that had great recommendations from other brides, offered examples of their work, and didn’t charge an arm and a leg. My wedding was in Charleston which can be very expensive. My florist did the most AMAZING job. Beth from WildFlowers took the time to show me individual flowers and she offered the best prices out of any of the quotes in Charleston and Columbia that I received. They couldn’t have been more perfect. Lastly, personality was important. Each of my vendors had the most stress free attitudes that I just absolutely loved. They each contributed to my day in their own special way with their amazing talents and attitudes.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

The inspiration for my wedding throughout was “Simple Elegance.” I didn’t want to focus and spend my time on the smaller details that people wouldn’t remember like the chairs or the type of linens we chose. I picked a few of the larger details to focus my time on and went from there. For example, the venue. I believe my venue completely made my whole wedding. Lowndes Grove is already a gorgeous place inside and out and we did not have to add much more. As far as color scheme, I loved the elegance of the mint and white and then added a few salmon touches to brighten it up.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I’m not sure I could choose just one favorite thing about my wedding. Ill try to slim it down to a few. 1. I love that there was room for my bridesmaids and I to get ready at the venue. We arrived at 11 am that morning and did not leave until after the reception was over. It eliminated some of the extra details traveling from place to place throughout the day. We were able to relax and just have an awesome time before it all even began. 2. The weather was absolutely perfect for our outside wedding. It was in the middle of June but the temperature was in the 70s and there was a cool breeze from the water. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous as well. It made for great pictures as the night was coming to a close. 3. Our food was also absolutely amazing. Our guests are still talking about how wonderful our catering from Fish in Charleston was. I knew our guests would remember the food and it was really important to me that it was delicious. 4. Our DJ. FingerSnappin Entertainment kept the party going and included every single one of our guests from their 20s to their 80s.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My best piece of advice for other brides would be not to focus on the small details. Think about what you remember from other weddings and focus on those details. Also, don’t try to rush the process. Allow yourself enough time to soak it all in and enjoy it. Don’t make it a stressful time. It should be one of the most exciting times of your life. Lastly, involve the groom. My husband did an amazing job of helping throughout the planning process. Ultimately, I think it made him enjoy the wedding a little more knowing he had also communicated with the vendors and contributed toward the final decisions.

How amazing are those colors together? There’s just something so perfect about an elegant Southern wedding.

What colors will you be using for your own wedding? Something bright like this peach and mint color palette, or something else? I’d love to hear!
