Filled with bright colors, an elegant, classic style, and lovely photography from Alexis June Weddings, you are going to love this elegant pink and orange wedding! Taking place in New York’s Hudson Valley, this elegant outdoor wedding boasts stunning scenery and a couple that is beautifully in love.
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
With everything from selecting the venue, food, going through proof after proof of our invitation (color, font and even the envelop liner) and sorting through a million fabric samples for our table linens and napkins. He was amazing, kept it fun … and me sane! In addition my mom was a huge help, even though she was miles away in Michigan (she flew in multiple times) as well as my matron of honor and bridesmaids! I was very lucky to have a wonderful support system! It all made the planning process fun. We kept saying that we were throwing a dinner party for our closest 160 family and friends—somehow that made it feel less daunting.
On the day of the wedding, it was our photographer and caterer that we leaned on to keep us on track. I knew from the first day talking to Brandi (our photographer) that she was a great fit for us. She has that mix of Midwest charm, military organization and NY toughness that resulted in a fun, organized shoot, and amazing pictures. Eric of Good-Life Gourmet, and his staff, made every transition seamless and took all the pressure off of us for day of schedules.
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
Obviously quality was very important to us, but we also needed to feel like there was a connection with our vendors. I can honestly say that every vendor we worked with was amazing, talented, passionate about their jobs and fun to work with! They all listened to us, respected us, respected our budget, and helped us create our vision–we felt like had known them for years and still keep in touch with a few of them. We knew that there would be stress in planning one of the most exciting times of our life, so liking them was important to us! The fact that we enjoyed the vendors really made it a (fairly) stress free event.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
My parents and my sister and her husband got married in June so the only thing I knew I wanted to get married in June with beautiful flowers. I am from Michigan and Luke is from New York, so once we decided on the state (NY) we thought it would be fun to incorporate as much of one to other. We served Michigan wine and beer, cookies shaped like Michigan and then tried to have as much local from NY. We often joked that our style was “rustic, farmyard chic” (which of course means nothing), but I think that our inspiration was the beauty of the Hudson Valley, and trying translate that to our event in an elegant way. Our venue and food really helped with that.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Other than getting married and dancing the night away with friends and family I would say my favorite thing was the venue (Monteverde at Oldstone). First of all it is on Hudson River and the views were amazing so we didn’t have to do too much as the setting spoke for itself. But we really just rented the whole site so we had a blank canvas to work together and create a wedding reception that was really “us.” The natural beauty of the setting allowed us to focus on the details (food, linens and band) to create a unique event that represented us, and we thought all would enjoy. And they did.
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
Have fun and make sure that it is about you and your husband. Try not to get caught up in having all the latest trends. There were a lot of things that when we first got engaged I thought I had to have… Decide what it important to you, stay true to your style and use your resources wisely—sometimes less is more!
Don’t forget that you will be working so much with your photographer, caterer, planner, etc that it is important that you work with good people with whom have a connection. We are so thankful for Brandi, Eric and Katie, Emily from Sunshine and Clover and all of our vendors who helped bring that day together. We would have been lost without them.
I just love the bright color palette paired with an elegant style, don’t you?
Are any of you going to be pairing a bright, bold color palette with a more elegant, classic style for your own wedding?
Vendors who made it all happen…
