Interview
Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?
I would say that my style is classic with a hint of modern/editorial flare. I am extremely detail-oriented and I take great care throughout the day to ensure that there are clean backgrounds and no visual distractions that could potentially date the photo. When clients look at their wedding photos many years down the road, I want them to be proud to show them to their grandchildren and not think “oh my goodness, that was SO 2019!” I strive to create images that are truly timeless with an effortless feel to them.
What is your favorite wedding detail you've ever seen or created?
Details are my favorite thing to style + photograph on the wedding day because it gives me such an inside look into who my clients really are and what is important to them. Over-the-top florals will always have my heart - but I love love love creating styled lay flats that incorporate every sweet element from their wedding day. It’s such an amazing creative exercise that gets me ready to photograph the rest of their day! In general, I'm a huge fan of any detail that is meaningful, somewhat untraditional, and really oozes with my couples' personality. I LOVE brides who think outside the box.
What is your favorite store or brand?
I can’t leave Ulta without spending at least $100 and pretty much everything I own is J.Crew... true story. I’m also a Starbucks addict... iced non-fat chai latte, please.
What advice do you have for a newly engaged couple?
When looking for a wedding photographer, ask to view full galleries from real weddings. This is where you’ll really see the difference between photographers!
What is your favorite thing about weddings?
I love the First Look! I love the anticipation, the reactions, that “oh my goodness, we’re getting married today!” excitement when they finally see each other. We start bride + groom portraits right after the First Look and it’s always my favorite time of the day because it’s just them, together, so excited - and it really shines through in their portraits!
What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?
I am very talkative, which helps put clients at ease. Whenever I have the camera up to my face, I’m talking to them from behind it. This helps them to feel comfortable in front of the camera, which is my #1 goal. I want them both to feel comfortable + confident in order to get those genuine reactions! I’m also pretty goofy and I have no problem making fun of myself – which also makes them feel comfortable with me.
What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?
I make an effort to educate them about what to expect throughout the process and I make it a point to keep in constant contact with them via email before their wedding day. My clients know that I will send them a speedy response to their email questions and they know they can count on me for anything. Building that trust and having a close relationship allows me to really be a part of their wedding day… not just a by-stander. I laugh with them, I cry with them… it's great! It's almost like I'm part of the family and to me, that's just the best!
