Hey there everyone! :) I thought it was about time to give our lovely contributor Kristine an official introduction! She’ll be hanging out around here a little more in the coming months, so I made had her answer a few interview questions so you all can learn more about her, and maybe even get a little advice too! ;)

What made you start blogging?

I started blogging while I was in the middle of planning my wedding. I guess I figured since I was already immersed in all things weddings, I might as well make a blog out of it! No, no, I’m only partly serious. I honestly fell in love with the wedding world while I was planning my own. I loved searching through all the incredible inspiration on my favorite blogs, interacting with other brides-to-be and past brides, and connecting with other writers.

An Official Introduction! via TheELD.com   Do you have any advice for brides who are planning their weddings?

I’m a big proponent of the budget. And, like you suggested in one of your recent Thursday Tips post, I agree that it should be the first thing brides and grooms-to-be do when it comes to wedding planning. I was never the kind of girl to dream about my wedding but I still found that I had so many expectations about my wedding day. I had to find the perfect dress that made me cry tears of joy when I put it on (which, by the way, I did NOT), I had to look and feel my most beautiful, I had to, I had to, I had to… So, I think understanding what your limits are up front and developing realistic expectations is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Now that you’re married, what are your plans for your future in the wedding world?

Continue blogging, of course! I love writing–it’s one of my passions in life–and something I hope to do full-time some day. But I also really love the wedding industry which is something I realized while planning my wedding. So I’ve decided to pursue my own wedding planning and marriage preparation business (launching in January 2012). I have a Masters degree in Marriage & Family Therapy and I really love working with dating and engaged couples. I think it’s so important to prepare yourself for marriage–educate yourself on those hot button issues, communicate with one another regarding your expectations for the future, and learn what strengths you have as a couple. In addition to helping couples plan their weddings, I also hope to help them prepare for a long and happy life together!

What do you like to do for fun?

Oh man, if I had all the money in the world, I’m pretty sure I’d use it to travel. My husband and I love traveling and experiencing new places and cultures. But we’re also quite the homebodies too. Some of our favorite nights are curling up on the couch in our sweatpants and watching a movie. I also love reading, playing with my cute little kitten (he was a wedding present from my husband), decorating our home, and, uh, organizing? Do I really do that for fun? I think it’s more for sanity. :)

What is your favorite wedding detail?

Don’t make me choose a favorite! That’s no fair! My favorite detail is the one that conveys something meaningful and unique to the couple. Is that cheating? No, really, that is truly my favorite. Whether it’s favors from the groom’s favorite donut shop, a beautiful heirloom from the bride’s great-grandmother, or tables numbers named after the bride and groom’s special memories–those are the elements that make a wedding beautiful. I think you’d agree with me, wouldn’t you, Lauren? :)

Of course I agree with that! I only talk about it several times a week! ;) Oh and Kristine has a fabulous blog, In Love, Engaged… she has an awesome marriage tips series on there too! :) You can learn a little more about Kristine here on the About page also! Please give Kristine a big warm (and official!) welcome everyone! :)

Happy Monday! I don’t know about you, but to me, it definitely doesn’t feel like Christmas is in less than a week! Being in cold DC for the last couple of days has helped a little bit, but I am SO ready to go back to my 75 degree Florida weather. ;) Anyways, this modern elegant wedding I have for you all today from Kat Braman is just pure gorgeousness! The lovely location and lots of pinks and oranges will give you a little taste of what Florida is like right about now. The bride, Libby, is here to share some of her wedding insight with us too!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Our wedding coordinator, Lauren Daversa, was the biggest help on the day and during the process.  We went with the full package, so she helped us from day one and she was amazing.  We loved every vendor she set us up with, she saved us more money than she charged for her fee, and most importantly neither Jon or I were stressed out during the wedding.  Of course the internet was the second biggest help.  It is amazing to be able to surf all the different websites to get ideas, check out vendors, and narrow down the venues all in the comfort of your own home.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

With Lauren, it was her experience.  She had done so many weddings that she had charts and schedules for every step of the wedding process.  We were willing to pay more for a coordinator who we felt would be able to handle everything easily.  With the photographers and videographers we chose based on their previous work and our personal taste.  For all the other vendors, it was mainly price.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

Yes, Lauren made these bride and groom plaques that hung from the back of our chairs.  They now hang above our bed. it was something small, but special.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about our wedding… That is really hard, I loved so many things about it.  I think the venue and the band were my two favorite things. Just because the atmosphere was     everything we could have hoped for.  I honestly wouldn’t have changed aching about our wedding.  Well actually I wish it could have lasted longer!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My advice is pretty cliched. The best thing I did was on the day of the wedding is to tell myself that something will go wrong (it is inevitable) and to just let it go. In the whole scheme of things the small mishap will mean nothing. Just keep in mind what the day is all about.  I wish I could be more innovative, profound, and inspiring but there it is.

No way, Libby, that advice is not cliched AT ALL! It’s so true, and it’s a great reminder! :) Thank you so much for sharing your wedding day with us, and thank you to Kat Braman for sharing her gorgeous photography with us too!

So what do you think of the pinks and oranges? Do you feel a tad bit warmer after looking through all of the photos? :)

Happy Friday loves! I’m on the road again… this time to go up to DC for a little family trip to visit my brother! I’m pretty darn excited because we’ll be having family photos taken for the first time in about a million years (okay really like 8, but who’s counting?)! But I of course this Florida girl is NOT looking forward to the cold temperatures! Wish me luck in bundling up! ;)

Alright, so on to the Detail To Love for this week! It’s no secret that I think fun things for guests are awesome… and I’m kind of IN LOVE with coasters. So when you put the two together, you have something absolutely magnificent! In case you didn’t catch these in Wednesday’s wedding, they’re coasters with facts and trivia questions about the bride and groom on them!

Absolutely AWESOME, right?! What a great way to infuse your “story” into your wedding… like I was talking about yesterday. ;)  And not only are these fabulous and fun for weddings, they would be great conversation starters at parties too! Hmm, might even be a good gift! :) So what do you think?! Are any of you planning on having coasters like this for your wedding now??

Ah, there’s that word… “unique”. It seems like it’s all over the place when it comes to weddings. I myself have a love/hate relationships with it. At times, I may even find myself wincing when I hear the word “unique”. I know I definitely did when I was planning my wedding. For me, it almost felt like it was a chore to come up with something unique. I desperately wanted there to be something unique about my wedding. I think I Googled “unique wedding ideas” countless times, coming up with NADA. And yes, there were times that the thought crossed my mind that my wedding was going to suck because it wasn’t “unique” enough. But you know what? Unique is really just a word, and depending on how you interpret it, it can encourage you to do awesome things!

Which leads me to this FACT: every wedding is unique! I don’t care where it is, how much money you do or don’t have, what season it is, or what shoes you’re wearing- every wedding IS unique in it’s own way. How is every wedding unique? Because every bride and groom is unique. Every couple has their own story, and that story needs to be told in some way, shape or form at your wedding.

Thursday Tips: Every Wedding Is Unique! via TheELD.comPhoto by ELV photographer, Kallima Photography

Whenever I’m designing a wedding’s details, ultimately I look for the little things… and they usually have nothing to do with the wedding itself. How you met, a hobby that you’ve taken up together, a favorite team, favorite food, a special place, etc. They’re the things that have “written” the story of your relationship… all of the “chapters” if you want to think of it like that. And so here’s a huge wedding design tip… if your wedding is created and designed around your story as a couple, it is without a doubt going to be unique!

If you’re anything like me when I was planning, it may be hard for you to think of something that seems “unique” about your story right away. (Or maybe not, and you are super awesome and already know right off the bat! Yay!) It helps if you literally tell your story. Tell a friend (or your planner) or just write it all down and then read it later. There are most likely things in your story that will stand out to you, but initially you don’t even realize they’re there. And don’t hold back, because just about everything is fair game! Some of the most awesome weddings are ones with totally off-the-wall-how-did-they-come-up-with-that themes… and they’re always incredibly personal things about the bride and groom!

Thursday Tips: Every Wedding Is Unique! via TheELD.comVia ELV paper pro, Ten Four Paper

It should really be a no-brainer to design your wedding around your relationship, but for sometimes we get so caught up in the need of being unique that we can forget that we’re all unique in our own ways. I think that since there is SO much awesome inspiration out there, it doesn’t always immediately occur to us to go that route.  And so, I encourage you all to design your wedding so that it tells the story of you and your fiance. Tell your story so that your guests walk in to your wedding and say, “Yep, this is definitely your name here and your fiance’s name here wedding!” Just remember this… every wedding is unique because it’s telling the story of the bride and groom! It’s just a matter of choosing HOW you want to tell it! :)

So now tell me… how are you incorporating your story into your wedding? Do you have any specific ideas yet, or do you need some help deciding on what to implement?
