Happy November everyone! Wow I can’t believe we’re into another month and this year is almost over! But I’m also pretty excited for the holidays, and to launch the new and improved ELD sometime this month! :)

So today I want to talk about using Pinterest to plan your wedding. I LOVE Pinterest. I think it’s the greatest thing since Facebook. ;) It’s been wonderful for inspiration, collaboration, and most of all- weddings. What’s funny is that I remember when Pinterest first started. When I told people about it, they thought I was crazy. And at first, it wasn’t that great because there weren’t that many people using it- but as more people started pinning, it became more and more useful.

Some of you may know that before blogging full time, I was a wedding planner. In fact, the last two weddings that I planned were super amazing, and I was kind of sad to be leaving wedding planning- but alas, I just would not have the time to plan and run this fabulous website! But I really and truly think that one of the reasons (besides the fact that my brides were awesome) my last two weddings were so super amazing was because the brides and I used Pinterest to plan the design and details! [Note: when I say “plan your wedding”, I mean planning your details. It’s kind of hard to plan your timeline and send confirmation emails with Pinterest, right? ;)]

Now that Pinterest has been around for a little while, I’ve seen the good and bad of using Pinterest to plan your wedding. So I thought I would share a few tips pointing out the best methods for using Pinterest to plan your wedding! [Note: And possibly even NOT using Pinterest…]

Thursday Tips: Using Pinterest To Plan Your Wedding via TheELD.com

Be Inspired.

Pinterest is ALL about the inspiration. There are SO many wonderful ideas for your wedding on Pinterest- from Save The Dates to ceremony programs, you are bound to find something for every part of your wedding. The key to using Pinterest is to remember to stick to using it for inspiration. Sure, it’s a great thing to see something that you love and want to use it for your own wedding. But be inspired, and then make it your own- don’t replicate it. It’s about the inspiration, not replication. So pin away, and get inspired!

Organize.

The point in using Pinterest for your wedding is that you want to be able to go back to what is inspiring you. The key to this is organization. Now I’m no organization queen, but when it comes to files and Pinterest boards, I’m pretty good. ;) I recommend creating one main board for general wedding inspiration first. Then, once you start to get a little more decisive in your colors and style, create boards for all of your wedding elements. Bouquets, centerpieces, invitations, etc- you can go take a look at some of my boards for an idea of which boards you should create. This way, when it’s time for you to show your floral designer what you want for your bouquet or centerpieces, it’s as easy as pulling up your board! And now, keep pinning! :)

Invite.

If you’ll be working closely with a wedding planner, friend, or designer on the planning or designing of your wedding, I highly suggest inviting them to some of your Pinterest boards so they can share some ideas and inspiration with you too. This was the key to the super amazing weddings that I planned with Pinterest. The brides and I shared a Pinterest board, and I was able to pin things to share with them instead of having to send countless emails with links and images. And then as we progressed with the design and ideas, we were able to move on to the next step, editing!

Edit.

Editing your boards will help you A TON when it comes time to start narrowing down your inspiration into what you actually want for your wedding. It’s usually kind of cool to see the progression of your inspiration and design, and it should be pretty easy to get rid of the things that don’t quite go along with the look you’re going for. You can just delete the pins that don’t fit, or you can edit them to go to a different board- perhaps just a general wedding inspiration one.

Step Back.

And now for the hard part- take a step back from Pinterest. Once you have your design figured out and decided on, spending just as much time on Pinterest as you did when you were “planning” could be a bad thing. You’ll keep seeing new ideas for things, and quite possibly end up with too many options for favors, centerpieces, etc etc. Sure, if you see something cool, keep pinning onto your general wedding inspiration board, but try not to add more pins to your own wedding boards unless you absolutely love something. It’s really not a good thing to end up with 3 favors, 2 guest books, etc etc. Sometimes it can be too much- and end up causing unnecessary stress for you!

Pinterest can be a wonderful tool for planning your wedding if you use it in the right way. It’s been amazing for showing brides ideas for details (which of course I LOVE!) and getting them to think outside of the box. But honestly, sometimes I feel like it’s diluting weddings, and perpetuating the same things over and over. And so that’s why I wanted to do this post- because it’s a wonderful tool for planning weddings, but it can also be used TOO much. As I stated above, it’s important to remember to be inspired, and then use that inspiration make something your own.

So do you have any great tips of your own to add for using Pinterest for your wedding planning?

Wedding Planning Advice: Your Wedding Should Reflect YOU via TheELD.com

“Your wedding should be a reflection of you. You don’t want to look back at pictures 5 years later and say “that wasn’t us at all!” I always try to emphasize this to my brides when we meet. Your wedding should be a reflection you and your love for each other.”

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We chose who to work with based on quality, cost, and the vendor´s ability to be flexible. Honestly, they were some of the first people we contacted and as our meetings went on, we realized just how blessed we were with each of them. Our amazing photographer (Sarah Der Photography) was recommended by friends. Our caterer has a wonderful reputation in our town, and ended up making some of the most fun details of the event (personalized Ceviche as an appetizer for my Ecuadorian husband!). Finally, our florist is a good friend of my parents and went above and beyond (even showing my mom how to plant and care for many of the flowers we ended up using for the rehearsal and the wedding in order to save money!).

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

My husband and I decided early on that we wanted our wedding to reflect our lives- that is the most important thing in our lives- our faith in Jesus Christ. Each thing we planned (from my dress, to the playlists, to the flow of the evening, etc), we tried to make sure it would speak truth about what we believe.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I loved that it was not the norm. While I had the idea that “our” day should be about us, my husband gently brought me to see that “our” day was really a gift the Lord had given us, as well as a chance to share our faith with our family and friends who were sharing that day with us. I think my single favorite moment was the time when my husband and I sang a song for our parents (a surprise for them), then he got up and sung me a song in both Spanish and English (a surprise for me!).

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Evaluate what is truly most important for you and your husband, then stick to it!

Is that scenery not the most gorgeous thing you’ve ever seen or what?! I just love how Missy and Francisco infused their personalities and relationship into all of their wedding details. From the table numbers, to singing a song during their reception, their wedding was about them, but also about sharing their day with their friends and family! And how great do all of the different bridesmaid dresses look together? I don’t think I’ll ever tire of that look! :)

Brides, I would LOVE to hear how you’re planning on infusing you and your partner’s personalities into your wedding day! Do you have anything unique that you’re planning on doing?

I love when I get to share new wedding inspiration concepts with you all, and this modern green and white shoot from Kristen Weaver Photography, Imprint Cinema, Malindy Elene Couture, and several other amazing Central Florida wedding pros, is absolutely fabulous! Drawing their inspiration from a fun, modern Ivy & Aster dress, the whole theme of this shoot is based on circles- and it’s pretty awesome if you ask me! With a modern color palette of green and white, and tons of “circle” details, this shoot is absolutely overflowing with inspiration! (PS- I am OBSESSED with the cake!!!)

And now, the fun, happy, and totally amazing film by Imprint Cinema (Seriously, watch this- you won’t be able to help but smile!)

Wedding Styled Shoot Dot Inspiration for Every Last Detail from Imprint Cinema on Vimeo.

    From Samm of Imprint Cinema:

I came up with the idea for this shoot after visiting the Tampa bridal salon, Malindy Elene. I was perusing the gowns, and I came across this one from Avy & Aster. I instantly fell in love with it. It was so different, it looked incredible comfortable, but it was gorgeous in a way that I just connected with. Well needless to say, I kept thinking about that dress, and it ended up becoming the inspiration for our shoot!

The inspiration started with the Ivy and Aster gown but it grew into a shoot all about greens, circles, and having a ton of fun!  I called in Brittany of Tickled Pink Brides to help me pull everything off. We worked together up until the day before to make sure this was an inspiring shoot that was unlike anything anyone had ever seen, plus we wanted it to be original and genuinely fun! From the cake, to the photobooth, to the “after the party” set up, we wanted each element to have a sense of reality with a little silliness mixed in. We chose to create a world in which the bride and groom experienced their reception at dinner, in their photobooth, enjoying their cake, lounging, and (maybe my favorite) relaxing with their pie pops after the party is done.

I absolutely LOVE how they used circles as their design inspiration! I mean, if you use the circle element (or any other shape/design) enough throughout your wedding, it could be an awesome theme. Not to mention that the same kind of concept can easily apply to other shapes too! So if you don’t necessarily know what direction to go for your wedding design, maybe using a shape as your theme could be the route for you to take!

So what do you think? Would you use circles (or some other shape) as your wedding’s design? If not, what ARE you using as inspiration for your own wedding?
