This week’s detail to love is a unique, gorgeous take on an escort card display, photographed by the amazing Justin DeMutiis. Escort cards and flowers placed between the slats of wooden shutters make for a wonderfully eye-catching display!

As I’m sure many of you know, escort card displays are one of my favorite wedding details, so I of course had to share this one with you all!

What are YOU planning on doing for your own escort cards? Something different and unique like this? I hope so! :)

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My husband and I planned the whole wedding on our own, and reading wedding blogs like ELD and following wedding forums like weddingbee.com was a tremendous help in terms of figuring out what are the latest trends, choosing wedding theme, getting decoration inspirations, etc. I am also extremely thankful to my photographer who guided me through the whole process of wedding planning, offered advice and even helped me find our priest. Last and but not least, no matter how cliche it may sound, I truly have been one of the luckiest brides on earth, because on the wedding day my husband personally set up all wedding decorations and made sure everything was perfect, while we girls were relaxing and getting ready.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I was looking for a good price/quality ratio. We were trying to find the best quality vendors that fit into our budget. Again, blogs and forums were helpful as I paid a lot of attention to recommendations and customer reviews.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Relaxing on the beach with an interesting book – that’s where all the details of our theme stemmed from. Among many other details we incorporated books and used ostrich feather centerpieces to give a feel of palm trees. Every table was named after our favorite books. We also had floating candles in the water and candles in sand on every table to further that theme. I have a degree in literature and the wedding was in Florida so all the symbols fit in. In addition, we included some elements from my culture (traditional Georgian drinking vessels which came with specific toasting rules) and military details to highlight my husband’s military background.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

One: the  moment when my husband and I first saw each other as I was walking down the isle. We didn’t do The First Look, so seeing his look full of admiration and love meant a world to me.  Two: the reception! We had 80 guests. Only the closest friends and family and it felt so homey, so friendly. We had time to spend a little time with each and every guest yet had enough time left to enjoy the party. I can honestly tell you that I had the time of my life at my own wedding party and danced the night away.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I cannot stress it enough how important it is to relax on your wedding day. Brides, please, stress out as much as you want to before the wedding BUT on the day of forget about everything and concentrate on enjoying this wonderful day. No matter what goes wrong, it will be too late to improve anything by that time anyway, so why stress yourself? Plus, whatever might seem terrible today, will seem hilarious in years to follow. I planned my wedding for one year and then it ended so soon! Not everything went as I planned, but then, so what? It was my wedding day and that’s what made it ideal and special. I am glad I filled myself with positive attitude and thus had a chance to savor every single second of this beautiful day in my life.

I love how they pulled their theme from the things they love- like sitting on the beach and reading a good book! That’s such a great idea!

Will you be drawing your own wedding inspiration from something you love doing?

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom helped us tremendously in our wedding planning. She has a design background, so she was a huge help in planning out the space, organizing centerpiece decorations, and putting together the flower arrangements. Our venue provided coordinators that we met with on a regular basis to assist throughout our engagement and was so helpful with all the last minute details on the day of the wedding. My husband was also a huge help throughout the whole planning process. He wanted to be very involved, and I wanted to make sure he was equally as happy with how everything turned out as I was. I have always turned to him for advice, for even the smallest decisions, so that definitely did not change throughout our engagement.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

References! I tried doing a lot of research before choosing my vendors. I took note of the work on their websites, how often they update their blogs, and what reviews they have received. I also asked my recently married friends about who they used and how well they liked working with their vendors. That was really important to me. I would not have found my amazing photographer if it weren’t for a friend’s reference!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

The venue itself provided a lot of inspiration for the details. The Milestone is very bright, classic, and elegant so we wanted to showcase that with our décor. I also drew inspiration from the time of the year-Spring. Since we were using warmer colors with the grey and purple, I wanted to use a lot of white, green, and lighter shades of purple in the flowers.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I have too many things to choose just one! One of my favorite parts of the wedding was seeing my husband and mother-in-law do a surprise choreographed dance for the mother-son dance. This was so out of his character but he did so well and everyone was dying of laughter. Another one of my favorite moments was as the very end of the evening.  While all of our guests were outside getting their sparklers ready for our grand exit, we had a private dance in the reception room. It was so special having that with my husband to just soak everything in and enjoy the moment.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

The only piece of advice I can give is to enjoy your day! Try not to stress about the details coming together or whether the vendors will show up. They will! The day goes by way too fast to do anything but enjoy it.

Wasn’t that beautiful?!? I love the little details she mentioned that really made this couple’s wedding their own- the bride’s mom helping with planning, the choreographed mother-son dance, and a bride and groom only dance to end the night! What details or moments are you incorporating into your day to make it all your own?

I can’t wait to hear all about it!

Cheers!
Samm
