Today’s Texas wedding from Shaina Sheaff Photography is filled with love, happiness, and a fabulously eclectic color palette of yellow and turquoise. Wanting a laid-back and relaxed vibe for their guests, Lauren and David chose a beautiful Texas vineyard as the location for their wedding weekend, which ended up inspiring a great deal of the wedding details. Lauren is here with us today sharing more about her wedding…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

David and I had a year long engagement, and since I was in my final semester of college, I started planning and reserving everything about few months prior to the wedding. I decided to do everything on my own, and being a designer gave me the opportunity to create items which were one of a kind and incredibly special. I would sketch ideas with David, and we would make sure it was “us.” I also took over the decor, and created most of the items seen around the room.

In lieu of a professional videographer, we crowdsourced our wedding video, asking guests to use their phones to capture various moments of the day. I edited about five hours of combined guest footage into a wedding film which can be found here! This is one of the mementos I am most proud of, because our friends helped make it happen!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

That others knew I didn’t need to be doted on. I know for a FACT this drove my bridesmaids completely nutty-buckets For David and I, the most important thing was that our guests were comfortable, taken care of and had a great time. Using local vendors and small businesses to print design work was also very important. I was thankful that we collaborated with some of the most talented artists who each delivered what we envisioned.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

David and I are pretty laid back, so being able to make our wedding day feel so relaxed for ourselves as well as our guests was key. Choosing a vineyard in the Texas hill country was something we had both wanted initially, and it was David’s daughter who exclaimed that she wanted to see us get married under a tree! We were thrilled that the designs and decor echoed those feelings to others. It’s pretty incredible to watch everything come together.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Between the sunset over the lavender, and the children prancing around us during our song (we sort just swayed there smiling at each other and forgot to dance, so thanks kids!), I can not imagine a more perfect day marrying my best friend. There is one memory that sticks with me, and was documented perfectly and quietly by Shaina. As us ladies brought our things into the bridal cottage, I grabbed our flower girl, David’s daughter and my littlest best friend, Ciana, to get her ready. There was so much excitement downstairs and outside, and as someone who gets nervous presenting to a group, my nerves started to wiggle and fidget Yet, as soon as she and I ascended the steps to the attic, everything slowed down. We took our time, dressing her into the dress she chose, the shoes she picked out, and the flower crown she making sure everything of hers was perfectly placed. That time spent focusing on her was so special and serene, that all those wiggles and fidgets went away.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Space out. Seriously! Just stand there and take it all in. Sneak off and steal a moment, or ten. Do not let anything bring you down. Whether it’s one of your vendors, a guest or the weather, it’s okay! Embrace the crazy, and do not let a negative force take away from all the beauty and joy.

I love the puzzle piece guest book, don’t you?! And Lauren’s advice to “space out” at your wedding to enjoy everything- that is seriously SUCH a great suggestion! But most of all, the fact that Lauren and David wanted to make sure that everything was an enjoyable “vacation-like” weekend for their guests is what I love most.

So how about you- what do you want the “vibe” to be for your wedding, and how are you planning on executing that vibe? I’d love to hear!
