Today’s gothic, jewel toned garden wedding is full of moody florals, pops of raspberry and fuchsia, lush greenery, and bold black and white stripes. Katherine and Marc-Andre spent a little over a year planning their celebration alongside their planner and designer, Adair of Dairing Events They incorporated so many personal details, like the groom’s French heritage throughout the table numbers and signage, and the couple’s love of Disney with little mouse heads.

They transformed the typically rustic Walker’s Landing venue in Amelia Island, FL into an elegant modern garden where the warmth of the wood adds a unique balance to the design. You can truly feel the emotion and love of these two pour through the images captured by Brooke Images. We can’t get enough of this style, and all of the details are leaving us truly inspired!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

While my husband and I had a wonderful vision for our wedding day, bringing it to life was intimidating for us. (Ok, me. He wanted me to give him two options of everything and that was his involvement. Other than the tux, of course). When we first chatted with Adair from Dairing Events, we clicked with her so quickly that we knew she would be there to make all of our dreams a reality. She worked so closely with us and my parents, which gave us so many memorable moments throughout the planning process. I love magazines and online inspiration from real weddings. I loved that I could pull a bunch of random items together and Adair could bring it all together to make it our own. What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding? Obviously loving the work of the vendors you select for your wedding is incredibly important, but Marc-Andre and I also wanted to feel very comfortable with our vendors so we could be ourselves on the day of the wedding. Researching reviews of vendors (or hearing recommendations from Adair, who had worked with almost all of our vendors in the past), helped our decisions and made us feel confident with our team. Our florist, Liz Stewart Floral Design, did an amazing job at my sister’s wedding in 2013, so having her was a no-brainer for our wedding. Overall, our vendors were so easy to communicate with and very flexible with bringing our vision to life. That made it all very stress-free!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Our venue meant a lot to me, as I grew up visiting Amelia Island Plantation with my family. The rustic, outdoor, marshy-Florida feel was one side to our personalities. The other side was glamorous with a luxe vibe to the natural surroundings. We wanted it to feel like a magical, fairytale (we love Disney and got engaged there!) wedding under the trees of Walker’s Landing. I always knew I wanted to use a classic black and white palette, but throw in vibrant, moody colors. Once we showed Adair all of our inspiration, like deep raspberry flowers, gold chargers, and chandeliers in the trees, we came up with the “gothic glam” description which fit this November wedding perfectly.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Marc-Andre and I cried so many happy tears all weekend long, and that was definitely because all of our loved ones were in one place. Having everyone join together to celebrate us was incredible and getting to say our vows to each other will forever be a highlight. And while it would be next to impossible to choose a favorite detail of our wedding, we would have to say our flowers just blew us away. They were everything. one of our most memorable parts of our wedding – our last dance. Everyone left the reception except for our parents (and of course the DJ). It was the most romantic and raw moment that we got together because we absolutely sobbed. It was a good, best-night-of-our-lives-sob, but getting those last few moments to soak in the entire day together before our send off was so wonderful. We also had a private sweetheart table outside, away from our wedding guests. It was so refreshing to steal a few minutes together and look in at the reception area to see all of our loved ones. I also think this is the only place I actually got to grab a bite to eat that night.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My best piece of advice for brides is to enjoy the planning process! I think it’s easy to get wrapped up in the stress, the money, and the smallest details, but when you can genuinely enjoy planning the wedding, it makes it all seem like more than just one day. Adair made everything so fun for us throughout the year of planning with her and then on our wedding day, she and her team made everything flow seamlessly. Because we enjoyed planning with Adair so much, she became more than just a wedding planner to my family, she’s the sweetest friend to us. Being able to trust her made everything that much more enjoyable.

We can’t get over the incredible transformation that was created in this space. Those lantern centerpieces overflowing with flowers. Those acrylic geode-esque table numbers. We could go on and on. We love the moody feel of the design, and the raw emotion in these images, and it truly makes for the best celebration of love on this day after Valentine’s Day!
