This sweet backyard wedding from Nikki Santerre – set in the rolling hills of Virginia – features charming details and beautiful country touches. A color palette of shades of yellow and green is the perfect touch for this Springtime soiree, and the love of friends and family made the day all the sweeter. The lovely bride Jessica is here to share her planning insight with us…
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
A close family friend (who owns the house where the ceremony and reception took place), helped me to plan almost every detail! I got a lot of my inspiration from wedding magazines, blogs, and Pinterest where I decided my bridal party attire, wedding colors, and small details! On my actual wedding day, my bridesmaids and mistress of ceremonies were very helpful by giving advice and helping to make everything run smoothly!
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
The most important factor when choosing who to work with for our wedding was budget! My husband and I paid for a majority of the wedding by ourselves, so we wanted to choose vendors who were reliable, classy, friendly, but also affordable. We chose a few vendors who were friends of ours and that we trusted to do a wonderful job (our florist, Adrian Austin, was my husband’s high school teacher).
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
My main goal was to make my guests happy and comfortable! I wanted to make sure that everyone was having a great time and dancing! My dream was to always have an outside country wedding with a lot of flowers and beautiful weather (I was very lucky to have a warm sunny day)! Anything I found that had tones of yellow or green were included to go along with the spring theme.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
My wedding dress was honestly my favorite piece from the wedding. It was so comfortable and I felt beautiful all night. I got my dress from Celebrations in Lynchburg and I hope to someday wear my dress again! We also really enjoyed dancing and laughing with our closest friends and family. I enjoyed having a laid back atmosphere and a stress free wedding day!
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
Someone told me this early on in the wedding planning process and I tried to take it to heart. Try to be a relaxed bride, focus the most of your energy on your upcoming marriage, not necessarily every detail of your wedding day. Focus on the big picture and not the small things that bring added stress to your day. You are still marrying the love of your life no matter what goes wrong!
Wonderful advice, Jessica! I loved all of their country details including their new monogram that served as a guest book. What a fun idea!
Are you planning an inventive keepsake for your guests to sign? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Happy Planning!

Gorgeous wedding and so is the couple! A truly spectacular event. Incredible imagery everywhere!
I think this wedding looks gorgeous, and I love the colors! However, I don’t understand the statement that the bride’s main goal was her guests’ happiness. I definitely don’t want my guests to be UNhappy, but I want a day that my groom and I love – I want people there to celebrate OUR happiness, not make me focus on THEIRS.
Such a nice background with yellow and green!!!
