Interview
Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?
Heart's Content's style is a joyful medium between Classic and Modern. As a wedding planner, I'm an old school, Classic, hopeless romantic who loves gorgeous yet meaningful details. Family heirlooms and traditions, etiquette, garden roses, wax seals, bow ties, formal celebrations...I live for all of it! On the other hand, as an advocate for celebrating couples and their beautiful love stories I embrace the modern side of wedding planning too so that we can tailor that beautifully classic experience into something truly special and meaningful for each couple. For example, adding a pop of color in a simple design to highlight the Groom's favorite color, drawing him in further to a day that is so often tailored to the Bride. We take Classic ideas we love and bend the rules (only a little I promise!) to make a beautiful, slightly modern event that is true to the heart of the couple.
What is your favorite wedding detail you've ever seen or created?
I love creating floral pocket squares for our Grooms! Classic Boutonnieres often get smushed with sweet embraces, but these tend to last a little longer due to the positioning and size of it! It's quite a Modern take on the Classic boutonniere in that in sits right in the front pocket of the tuxedo jacket. And just in case, we always make a second arrangement for the Groom so he looks "fresh" for post-ceremony portraits and the Reception Grand Entrance!
What is your favorite store or brand?
I love Kate Spade! It's my absolute favorite!
What advice do you have for a newly engaged couple?
Invest in pre-marital counseling with your sweetheart before the wedding. It may seem like a lot, especially considering all the work that goes into a wedding. But I'm a strong believer that the way a couple prepares themselves before marriage will manifest itself ten-fold throughout the marriage. In pre-marital counseling, you'll learn a whole lot about each other (trust me...you think you know...but you have no idea how much more there is to your future spouse!), how to effectively manage marital finances, how to fairly settle arguments, how to love each other in the way that BEST makes your sweetie feel loved (5 Love Languages), and so much more!! My hubby and I did it when we were getting married and we still use a lot of the principles we learned in our sessions. Trust me, it is time well spent, and you'll be grateful later on.
What is your favorite thing about weddings?
My favorite part of a wedding is watching the Groom cry happy tears when he sees his bride walk down the aisle to him! I sob every. single. time. And also, because of this, we put tissues at the ends of every aisle at a wedding. #mascaraeverywhere
What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?
Compassion and empathy, our love for people, connection with others, an eye for Design and how to make meaningful moments with beautiful details, our advocacy for strong and lasting marriages, and our Type-A Workflow (We joke that we have a Type-A wedding planning process so that our couples can have a Type-B engagement and wedding day!) allow us to work well with our couples!
What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?
We get to know our couples very closely throughout the wedding planning process so that we can create a planning and design process that truly reflects the couple's love story and envelops their loved ones in it on the wedding day. We are very keen on making sure that even the finest details are executed to the couple's liking so that they don't have to worry about all the ins and outs of planning, but they can focus on preparing for their marriage and cultivating meaningful relationships with those who matter most in their lives!
