Happy Friday! I am just in love with this classic black and white wedding from Laura Yang Photography! Beautiful photography, a couple absolutely in love, and some fabulous details make for a gorgeous wedding! Let’s have a look, shall we?
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
My mother was my number one help throughout the entire planning process. It was basically her show. We did not factor a wedding planner into the budget and therefor resorted to a lot of creativity, bargain hunting, and DIY. My mom happens to have a few very helpful and creative friends that helped make my wedding day vision a reality. My mom spent many a nights planning, cutting, pasting, etc. Without her the day would have been less than smooth sailing to say the least.
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
Number one: surround yourself with people that are going to encourage you to keep you JOY throughout the whole process. Unfortunately, there can be so much negativity associated with planning a wedding. Ironic considering that you are supposed to be preparing for the happiest day of your life, right? I wanted to surround myself with people that saw my vision, captured my style, and were able to get things done right but, more importantly, I wanted to surround myself with people that knew what was really the cornerstone of the process: planning for a marriage, not just a wedding day. It was very important to surround myself with people that were able to help me keep my joy and remember what mattered.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
My husband and I both wanted our wedding day to represent us through personal touches and design and desired to steer clear of some of the more “cookie cutter” wedding day routine. The rustic, romantic feel seemed to navigate most of the detail and design. I wanted to have a very natural color palette and create a warm, welcoming environment. Once I finally stopped changing the “theme” I started searching through magazines and the ever-famous Pinterest for some inspiration.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
I loved that our wedding included many details that were personal touches from us. One of my favorite things about the wedding ceremony was a note of appreciation that we wrote to the congregation. It was a time that we were able to say “thank you” for all of the love and support we have received over the course of our relationship. We are both so grateful for the many ways that the Lord has blessed us and the love and encouragement of our loved ones is one of those many blessings.
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
Keep your joy!!! I was reminded of this advice in the beginning of my planning and it truly is vital. It seems so obvious, but easier said then done sometimes. There is so much going on..appointments, fittings, shopping and errands, choosing food, location, colors, dress lengths, regular tie or bow tie? What do we want? What do other people want? blah, blah, blah! :) Don’t get me wrong, it is such a sweet and fun time in so many ways. But, planning a wedding also gives stress and petty worries the opportunity to rob you of your joy. Despite what happens or possibly doesn’t happen, you still always have a reason to smile and be joyful knowing that you are going to marry the love of your life. All of the details or so so important and have there place on the day but, above all, remember that there is a marriage after the wedding and there is nothing that should rob you of your joy!
Didn’t you just love that??! All the beautiful ways the theme and color were incorporated into their wedding truly made for a remarkable day. The mixture of DIY finds with their decor really brought the rustic and classic feel together.
Who do you have helping you make your day happen? Everyone from your bridesmaids and family to your vendors can add to the joy of planning. What brings the joy to you in planning? I can’t wait to hear all about it!
Cheers!
