Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?
When you look at fashion styles, trends come and go but the classics have been around for decades. I feel the same way about imagery. In the beginning of my career, I was guilty of falling to the trends. Looking back over the past 10 years, I have always been drawn to simple images with clean editing. I look to shoot this classic style with a modern feel. Leading my sessions with clean lines, adding my clients personality and finishing up with fresh editing gives my images the classic and modern look my clients are dreaming about.
What is your favorite wedding detail you've ever seen or created?
Hmmmm, this is a hard one! Details are one of my favorite part of a wedding day and typically one of the very first things I shoot. You’ll find details spread all throughout the wedding. From wardrobe, to flowers, to ceremony and reception set up, down to the letter press and favors. It’s the couples prime opportunity to let their personalities shine. The most treasured details, such as a grandmothers necklace or a father’s watch, really anything that holds sentimental value, are my favorite. They always tell a great story.
What is your favorite store or brand?
The first that comes to mind is Victoria Secret’s PINK brand. I love the bold, bright, modern and flat out fun branding and marketing they use. It makes me feel happy and like I’m still in my 20’s. You can even say it motivates me too. Plus they have the best sweats. I’m a laid back, easy going, low maintenance kinda gal and even as I sit here typing this, I’m in my PINK sweat pants.
What advice do you have for a newly engaged couple?
If I can give a newly engaged bride one piece of advice it’s this. Enjoy this moment. You’re only engaged for a short period of time compared to the marriage you’re about embark on. I see many couples get so caught up in planning the wedding, they forget what they're planning for. Your marriage and relationship with one another is so much more important than just the one day you’ll spend getting married. I know you’re anxious to find your venue, finalize the date and look for that dream gown. Enjoy this short time in your life where you are someone’s fiancé.
What is your favorite thing about weddings?
Hands down, First Looks. If there was such a thing 16 years ago, I would have participated in a heart beat. There’s nothing more important than spending time with your new husband on your wedding day. Believe me when I say you’ll hardly have time alone. Doing a First Look provides you the opportunity to have a moment with one another before any of your guests see you. You deserve that.
What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?
Heart. I had a horrible experience with my wedding photographer. Long story short, my wedding photographer told me 3 days before my wedding (during my bridal studio portraits) that after 2 poses he didn’t know what else to shoot because my dress was so plain. That still hurts to this day. I felt so insignificant because it wasn’t the dress I wanted, but rather the one I could afford. It really never got better with this studio, even through the delivery process. I said to myself, it doesn’t have to be this way. I want to prove it doesn’t by creating an experience and images we always wanted to have but never received.
What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?
Many! I work closely with my couples to get to know them and how they interact with one another. It’s my responsibility to educate and inspire couples on how to be their best in front of my lens. I do this by providing guides, inspiration and planning from the minute they book until the last product is delivered.
