Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?
I see myself and my team as being modern mostly based on our approach to Bridal Beauty as a concierge style service versus services just booked for specific dates. When a Bride chooses to #getAnnimated, she is not only getting an artist or team to show up to her trial and day of. She is gaining over ten years of Bridal, cosmetic, facial, and hair expertise, which is at her disposal from the moment of booking. Over the past 6 years of being active, AnnimationsMkUp's reputation for truly building relationships with our Brides and assisting them above and beyond with subjects such as hair growth, skin treatments, private shopping, assistance with choosing hair accessories, and continuing our advice beyond the wedding's completion has set us a part as a unique, modern Bridal Beauty Vendor.
What is your favorite wedding detail you've ever seen or created?
Using elements of a Bride's bouquet to create a design in her hair style is one of my favourite artistic challenges. I've worked with the traditional baby's breath, to roses, lilies, orchids, even berries and pine cones! Second to this, creating transitional make up. Some of our Brides will have more than 1 outfit on their Big Day, and their hair or make up might need to be changed in a hurry. Designing styles and looks that either flow into the next outfit if we are not booked to be present or are styled in such a way that upon the outfit change we are able to create something new in a short period of time is a fun and welcome challenge that we love to design and make come true.
What is your favorite store or brand?
After being in the industry for so long, I have my favourites from all over the world! Sonia Roselli skin care from Chicago, P. Louise Make Up Academy eyeshadow base from England, Face Atelier foundation from Calgary, this list goes on. I make sure my and my teams' kits are stocked with the highest quality, highest performance products and tools to ensure and deliver exceptional results.
What advice do you have for a newly engaged couple?
Hair and Make Up is a personal thing. There is no right or wrong way to look on your day, only preferred styles and honed techniques to enhance the features unique to you. With that being said, when looking at inspiration online for hair and make up, you're going to find some images of real life Brides of all colours, sizes, and features. You will, however, encounter even more staged shoots featuring models, even if it looks real. In either case, stay objective and when you love how a picture looks, try to record or jot down what exactly about the look you like. Ex. do you actually like the blush colour or do you actually like the shape of that person's cheekbone? the smokey-ness of the eye style or how large that person's eyelid is? This information helps us especially during your trial to better understand and design your look so you are 100% happy with your result. Don't worry, we will help with this! Try to keep that in mind when you first start looking.
What is your favorite thing about weddings?
I am super lucky to witness a lot of behind the scene moments that make weddings so special; the Bride receiving a surprise card and gift from her fiance on the wedding morning, the Bridal party cheersing mimosas and singing along to songs from their teenage years. But my absolute most favourite moment, is when the Bride reveals to us her final look; beauty, dress, shoes, and all. Because that's when I get to give her a final spray, or place her veil, and when she looks into the mirror that last time before she walks down the aisle, her reaction of total happiness just lights up the room. That is the moment I live for.
What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?
I believe my mix of structure and friendship making is what creates a successful wedding morning and a good working relationship with the engaged couple. I work to build a good rapport with each of my Brides and am very transparent about all details. Our skill level, on a technical level, and our style is only one set of important factors that a couple chooses us. Our professionalism, punctuality, organization and commitment to their vision builds trust and allows us to truly serve our clients.
What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?
Many of our Brides are local, some are from the States or even international. No matter the distance, we keep regular communication and really delve into their expectations and wishes for their day of. This, beyond the make up application and hair styling, is a huge component of our work. Next, managing those expectations and developing solid and realistic goals to achieve what they are looking for is determined with both communication and a questionnaire we have developed when we open our client's file. We talk with our Brides at their convenience, no matter the time zone. We set up a trial, to then use the information we have compiled mixed with our professional recommendations during a practical appointment, strongly recommended and encouraged if possible in the Bride's schedule. The trial is not complete until all aspects of the desired look are reached. After the trial, if additional work needs to be completed to achieve the look (for example hair growth, improvement in skin texture) we will work with our Brides, developing routines to follow on a schedule, offering additional services to help our Brides have their hair and skin in the most perfect condition to easily attain the results they are dreaming of on their Big Day. Additionally, a schedule is built for the Day Of, working with the wedding coordinator and photography, to ensure timely execution of all hair and or make up styles. We are very proud of our process and our results!
