This gorgeous vintage eclectic barn wedding was captured by Meg Darket Photography and has some of the best, most personal details! Taking place in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Kati and Shawn wanted a wedding that felt like you were stepping foot in their home- which if you ask me, is exactly how every couple’s wedding should be! Kati is here with us today sharing all about how she and her husband achieved their beautiful, intimate wedding…
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
Being out of state we had to heavily rely on others. We were so humbled at the support we received from our family and friends to pull this off in under four months. With that being said, Laury Stone, our wedding stylist allowed me to keep my sanity – she completely understood my vision and was able to execute it fabulously.
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
I wanted to work with people who I knew had similar tastes to mine, and who truly understood the look and feel I was going for. Choosing people who I was comfortable with ensured that I could be confident in decisions they had to make without me. Everyone I worked with made it easy for me to articulate what I wanted and probably more importantly, what I didn’t want.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
I wanted everything to be different and for it to look like it came out of our home. Each center piece was unique, but they were all settings I would use when having friends over for a brunch. I loved each one, and loved that I knew the story of them! I didn’t want things to be perfectly matched – I loved how many one of a kind pieces Laury was able to cultivate. I loved that my mom made all the runners, which were a fun variety of prints, burlap, and lace, they were perfect for the venue and now we have a variety to use at home, each which allows us to remember our wedding day. Again, I have to thank Laury – she coordinated every single detail of each centerpiece, she incorporated old sheet music and love novels – not one thing was placed without careful thought, it was amazing!
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
The guy waiting for me at the end of the aisle – none of the details would have mattered if it weren’t for him standing there.
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
Plan quickly. We got engaged in December, I booked our venue a couple weeks into January and we were married in April. This forced me to be decisive; I never had time to stress out! I made confident decisions, and I made them quickly with no time to second guess myself.
I am IN LOVE with the concept of making sure your wedding feels like you’re at your home! I think that it’s something that should be the goal of every couple when designing. I also love that Kati worked with a stylist to achieve the look that she wanted- it turned out perfectly, don’t you think?
So what do you think? Have you ever thought of turning to your own home and its decor for your wedding inspiration?
Vendors who made it all happen…
