Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?
We see ourselves as a mix of all four. One of the most common comments we get on the collection is what an amazing variety there is for brides. There is something for every bride!
What is your favorite wedding detail you've ever seen or created?
Having people share in your story gets them all the more excited for your love and the start of your marriage. Paper products have a way of sharing those special details with the story behind it. For my own wedding, we chose silly string as our exit toss. We wrapped the cans with our story of why. We had a disagreement one day while we were dating and my husband said "We're on the same team, silly." I said "Team Silly?" It stuck and was a forever reminder that from that day forward we were forever on the same team!
What is your favorite store or brand?
J Crew for their clean, polished look.
Anthropologie for their creativity. I always look to their photos and window displays for inspiration on coming trends.
What advice do you have for a newly engaged bride?
Hire a planner! I spent four years planning weddings before launching Val Marie Paper and a planner is really the best money you can spend, even if it's just for the day. Just think, you spend thousands of dollars on a wedding, only to have no one their on the day of to make sure it happens? Everyone makes mistakes. A planner makes sure they are fixed before you even have to think about it!
What is your favorite thing about weddings?
I LOVE the paper products of course! ; ) It's amazing how a consistent design can create such a strong message or theme. I think it's one of the least expensive ways to bring a vision together.
What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?
My time as a planner helped me to see exactly what they appreciated and what they didn't appreciate from their vendors. It's shown me how to create a process that is easy, fun and reliable.
What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?
I created a lookbook with all our information so brides have all our information before beginning the process. Surprises are no fun when it comes to booking vendors. The caterer doesn't clean up after and you have to hire bussers. The DJ doesn't bring lights. The cake is buttercream and WILL melt outside. Having all the facts helps us make decisions better and also creates trust! That trust is so important and takes away so much unneeded stress.
