Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?
As a designer, I find myself drawn to many different styles. However, at my core I have a strong appreciation for things of the past, traditions, heirlooms, and things that make us feel nostalgic. Therefore I am always pulled towards vintage design. I would say I appreciate it at it's finest though when it is more classically designed. Simple, timeless and beautiful. I truly believe based on personal interest and up bringing, we all see "vintage" in our own way. To me, it's like sitting down for tea in a beautiful French garden surrounded by beautiful china and shining silver.
What is your favorite wedding detail you've ever seen or created?
Personally I love the reception tables! Your friends and family will spend a good amount of time sitting there. I find it so rewarding when they walk up and see everything for the first time. A mix of carefully thought out details, from the tables, linens, chairs, dishes, flowers, and accents all beautifully blended together. To us, this is where the design magic happens. Once you have the tables and centerpieces figured out, the rest is cake.
What is your favorite store or brand?
Target for the day in and day out unexpected found treasures. You go in for a couple things, and you ALWAYS stumble upon so much more you can't resist. Anthropologie for their quality, and uniqueness. Before Anthropologie, there was nothing like it. I love how they are modern, creative, cultural, and vintage all wrapped up into one. We also love World Market and Hobby Lobby. Last but not least Disney, because there will always be a Disney. How many memories do we all have of Disney?! Whether it's the theme parks, a movie, or a TV show your little person loves to watch. Disney is timeless and effects us all.
What advice do you have for a newly engaged couple?
I feel more passionate about this than anything else, enjoy this time. Enjoy your special day! It comes and goes so fast. If I could talk to the family members of these sweet couples, I would say the same. Let them enjoy this day, this day will never happen again. At the end of the day, most couples I work with just want everyone to be happy. Sometimes it might seem unusual or not how things "use" to be done to family members, but that's ok. A wedding is the celebration of 2 people joining in marriage. The important part is to celebrate together, and the important part for the couple is to not get lost in all of it, and savor this special time. Hiring good professionals can help you achieve this. They have done this a time or two.
What is your favorite thing about weddings?
I love seeing each wedding design mean something special to each couple. I love seeing the happy tears, and the extra long hug embraces. That look a proud parent gives at some point during the day. The flowers! I love all the flowers at weddings.
What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?
I pride myself that we are often told how calm we make couples feel, and that we are also thorough. Our couples are often surprised by the amount of things we think of, that they say they would not have. I also have a background in wedding photography, graphic design and floral design. I also taught cake decorating for 3 years. Looking back, I feel like all of that lead me to this moment.
