Interview

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

Modern meets Vintage – I have a modern approach using experience from photojournalism & fashion shoot production instead of following traditional wedding photography “rules”. I step back and allow my clients’ love for each other shine naturally, while making sure each detail is just right. However, my modern photography style is balanced with a vintage touch. Basically I want to create images that are timeless, romantic and make people swoon!

What is your favorite wedding detail you've ever seen or created?

This is the hardest question for me! I am a SUCKER for details, that is one of my favorite things to photograph, so to choose one is nearly impossible. But I can say that I loved the linens my Mom made to sit under our collection of mismatched vintage vases at my own wedding. She sewed lace along the edge of each linen, and I still use them around my house or for fancy dinner parties!

What is your favorite store or brand?

Anthropologie – Their attention to detail is evident throughout their brand in photo styling, clothing quality, and store displays. I also love how Anthropologie pieces feel timeless and never out of style. I am also a huge fan of Southern Weddings Magazine for how they have embraced all that is gorgeous about the South, but with a modern approach.

What advice do you have for a newly engaged couple?

First, take time to enjoy being engaged! Before you get caught up in the details of planning and budgeting, bask in the joy of what is to come. One tip I’ve thought of, is to write your vows soon after you get engaged so you are not writing them during a last-minute stressful rush to the day. Also, discover what wedding style you connect to most, then search for those vendors that seem to embrace that style too.

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

As a photographer with a photojournalism background, I love the opportunity to be welcomed into an event so intimate and full of joy. You really get to capture people at their most authentic and beautiful. (And I really like cupcakes!)

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

Sense of humor, calm personality, friendly attitude. I like to spend time with the bride & groom before the big day (hint: engagement shoots!) so we can relax and have fun with each other at the wedding. I always want my clients happy, comfortable and feeling good!

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

I am obsessively organized, and I communicate with my clients 4-6 weeks before the wedding to gather all important information, specific photo requests and what details are really important to them. I also try to scout the venue beforehand (if I haven’t shot there) and/or attend the rehearsal so I am aware of all moments that will happen and where they will take place. I have learned to remain calm during a crisis (it’s called working at a magazine), so if anything goes wrong my clients can relax and enjoy the day!
