Alright, so with the new month (I can’t believe it’s November already!) I’ve decided to start a new feature on {ELD} for you all! The survey that I asked you to fill out a few weeks ago reported, among other things, that you wanted more tips, and so now I give you… {Tuesday Tips}!
{Tuesday Tips} is going to be a tad bit different than {Thursday Tips}. Thursday will still be exclusively for brides, but I know not all of you are brides, and I want everyone to feel the love on {ELD}! And so….{Tuesday Tips} posts will be for the bridal party! And when I say bridal party, I mean the lovely groomsmen and bridesmaids that a wedding is incomplete without! :)
Although I’m a wedding planner and I’ve been to my share of weddings, I haven’t quite had my share of personal bridal party experiences. Which is why I’ve asked a few friends to use their own experiences from being part of a bridal party to contribute to {Tuesday Tips}! We’ll be alternating between groomsman and bridesmaid tips every other week, so brides, be sure to send your bridal party to {ELD} to check our the tips!
We’ll start off with a post for the guys- the Best Man to be exact- written by Chris Easter of The Man Registry!
5 Unexpected Ways the Best Man Can Help the Bride & Groom
We’re all familiar with the traditional responsibilities that are bestowed upon the Best Man – planning the bachelor party, giving a toast, holding onto the ring, etc. However, as the groom’s wingman, there are multiple other tasks you can perform that will make things easier on the bride, the groom and their families. Here are five of my top recommendations:
1.) Help Out-of-Town Guests with Transportation – Any wedding will have at least a few guests traveling long distances to attend. Naturally, these guests are going to need help with directions and will possibly be in need of the dreaded airport pickup. Volunteering to make a few trips to the airport or providing your phone number for these guests will greatly reduce the stress levels of the bride and groom.
2.) Keep the Groomsmen on Schedule – Keeping a schedule can make or break the wedding day. If there’s not coordinator on hand to keep the groomsmen on pace – step up and take an active role in making sure everyone is where they need to be at the right time.
3.) Pick up Breakfast or Lunch– Fact: most grooms (and brides for that matter) forget to eat on the morning or afternoon of their wedding. This leads to drowsiness and lack of energy later in the day. If no catering or food pickup is planned, offer to pick up sandwiches or other snacks for the wedding party. One thing to remember – no fast food or energy drinks!
4.) Break Down the Wedding Reception – It’s boring, but it must be done. This includes breaking down tables, folding up chairs and carrying gifts out to cars. It won’t be fun, but it’ll earn you major brownie points with the newlyweds’ families.
5.) Return the Groom’s Tux – You’re going to be heading to the mall or rental shop to return your own tux anyway… why not volunteer to grab the groom’s as well? Coordinate a time and place to collect his tux and make sure nothing is missing! You don’t want the groom to return from his honeymoon to find a bill for a lost bowtie.
Remember guys, your most important job on the wedding day is being there for the groom. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the wedding day can be stressful. Your help and support will mean the world to your friend. Cheers!
What are some other areas in which the Best Man can assist on the wedding day? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section.
Oh wow, these are all AWESOME suggestions!! These would all make MY life easier as the planner/coordinator too! I know as a bride, I would have loved to know that our best man was taking care of all these things. Thank you so much for the great post Chris!
I hope you all enjoyed the first {Tuesday Tips}! Show Chris some comment love! (I would like to take this opportunity to thank my best friend Meg for encouraging me to do this new weekly feature- maybe one day I’ll get her to write a post!)

Fantastic idea for a series. Can’t wait to see the bridesmaids tips as I’m now in my second wedding! :)
i love this new feature. great suggestions
I think this is a great idea. As a wedding photographer, I spend most of the wedding day with the bridal party, bride’s side and groom’s side. Unfortunately most of them, understandably, have no idea what their responsibilities are. Could be a great resource for brides to send their bridal party to study up. : )
I love it! Definitely a useful series that will direct even more people to your site! I am the MoH in two weddings next year and will certainly be following along for tips I can use :)
Love seeing the men represented!:)
